Bronx Zoo

Wednesdays are free, which is great but it gets packed. Especially when school is out.

What a great day! Went here with my family for Father’s Day and had a blast. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, or you can use the Shuttle to hop around to different areas. It was a little confusing to figure out what parking lot to enter through, but the staff helped us clarify this and how to find our Dad.
Once inside, the zoo is well maintained and clean. The staff is proactive, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The Asia Monorail was definitely worth a visit, you get to see many animals in big enclosures from the comfort of a well designed monorail. I like that the animals are staged along the walking paths making it easy to see many animals and transition between them. Definitely worth watching the sea lion feeding, that was very entertaining and fun. Be sure to get there at least 10 minutes early if you want a good spot. The Madagascar exhibit was also a great time (and free with general admission!).
I had such a wonderful time, I can’t wait to go back!

If you haven’t come then I suggest you take a trip over the bridge and find your way. I love bringing my daughter here because she loves animals. This Zoo is pretty large. I believe it’s over 260 acres of wildlife habitats and attractions and that makes it rather hard to do the whole zoo in one day. That would be an unrealistic feat lol. However, you just try to see and experience as much as you can, take pictures and enjoy the moments.
Everyone knows the zoo is free admission on Wednesdays which makes it a little crowded with field trips and such but it’s worth it. Although admission is free on Wednesdays donations are suggested and welcomed– every little bit helps! They also offer a discounted ticket price for the total experience. The total experience tickets give you unlimited access to the premium exhibits and activities (some are not included, i.e. camel ride) but it’s sooo worth it.
The Bronx Zoo is cool because they allow you to bring your own food into the park. They have different areas and picnic tables where you can sit and eat with your family. If you have small children you can bring your own strollers into the park and they also have some for rent. They don’t have lockers so you have to be mindful of your items! They have a bunch of stores and kiosks where you can purchase adorable souvenirs and gifts for the kids or loved ones.
I suggest all animal lovers to make your way to the Bronx Zoo — even if it’s just once!

I will start with that you really do need to be at the zoo from opening to close to hit everything, it is that big! Most definitely wear comfortably clothing and shoes.
You are able to park In a parking lot for a fee (I believe it was $ 14 or $ 16). There are a few different parking lots that bring you into different entrances of the zoo. If you don’t mind walking further there is off street parking as well.
They offer souvenir bottles for $ 8 with free refills for the day. If you get this at the very beginning of the day, it is definitely worth it. You are also able to bring your own food and drink which we did as well. We ate at the samba area which had some pretty interesting hamburger choices. We went with the southwest burger and Mac n cheese burger. Both good! We also got the fried pickle spears. They were good also but would not suggest to eat on a hot day. Bathrooms are around often so won’t really find yourself having to look for one.
We did a few of the attractions (the children’s zoo, jungle world, Asia monorail, congos and the butterfly garden). We bought the experience pack which slightly lowers the prices for each exhibit. If not bought in advance its an extra $ 5 to get in.
Overall, this is a great family zoo and really enjoyable for a nice day out! The exhibits are great although for young child you might have to lift them up to see!

Take note. Getting a membership will save you a ton of money– and going at least three times will make it worth the expense– plus there are four other facilities you can visit as well.
The place is HUGE. There is no way to see everything in one day– so multiple visits are a probability. The animals are amazing. They are not in cages — but roaming in their environment, so to speak.
That’s the good stuff.
The bad news is that the food selection is underwhelming and way overpriced. Given the selection of food at other family oriented venues — and this being 2016 — the food situation needs a serious upgrade. I am sure this is not the best a world class zoo in the world’s greatest city can do.
Be so advised.

This zoo rocks. Coming from DC with the national zoo… I’ve sworn off zoos for life from hot summer days walking only uphill. But Bronx zoo is so large and spread out, you can keep going back and finding new animals to see. There is plenty of shade which is a huge plus for hot days. We got the total experience, about $ 60 for two adults. With it, we had access to everything in the park and spent hours at the zoo!

I like the Bronx zoo, monorail was awesome. Overall the zoo was Nice a lot of variety everything was open. The only thing I really really really disliked the zoo closes at 5 pm at 4:30 I felt like we were rushed out that’s not okay. The zoo can be quite expensive if it closes at 5 then close at 5 not 4:30 or change the sign we close at 4:30 idk very discouraged :/

Don’t get me wrong, the Bronx Zoo is great, but it can add up to be a very pricey trip. If you don’t get the total experience tickets, everything is a la carte with each thing being about $ 5 extra (ie. the butterfly room, the shuttle, the gorillas?!, childrens zoo). I understand that everything goes back to the zoo, but admission to begin with was quite pricey.
One thing that made me feel slightly uncomfortable was some of the animals (ie. the polar bear and red panda), just kept pacing back and forth. Perhaps it was almost feeding time which was why, but it made me feel sad.
If you have the NYC ID, admission is free (normally $ 20), but you still have to pay $ 14 or 15 for the all experience pass. And parking is $ 16.

As a native Bronxite, I’ve been going to the Bronx zoo my whole life and still go every year with my own child. If you are going to visit a Zoo in NYC, make sure it’s the Bronx Zoo! BTW, you can avoid paying the hefty parking fee if you park on the streets around the zoo!

Where do I start? I absolute LOVE the Bronx Zoo! I come here all the time the membership is so worth it! It’s for a whole year and you can get 4 guests in, have access for all the attractions at the zoo, discounts on merchandise and more.
The Zoo is so clean and as you enter they give you a map and if you’d like you can take a group picture before starting the day. We usually enter where the American Bison are and by the world of birds. Every exhibit is so beautiful. There are some smaller than others. I just must say the Lion and elephant enclosure is small but that’s my personal opinion. The polar bear enclosure is upsetting as well. The brown bears behind the polar bear seem to have a huge enclosure.
If you go online you can check out the times they would be feeding certain animals. I have seen the Tigers and lions being fed and it’s pretty cool. I also enjoy going on the monorail which is kind of like a train and it takes you to an exclusive part of the zoo where you can’t walk by. It’s located in «Asia». You can only see these animals if you get on the monorail. You can see «Happy» the elephant, Mongolian horses, a tiger, a red panda, rhinos and more. I would definitely recommend going on the monorail!
As you get off the monorail visit jungle world! You won’t regret it! It’s absolutely beautiful inside! But for this visit we stayed outdoors. The Camel ride is in Asia as well and it’s expensive! 7 dollars a person to go around once! I personally didn’t go on it because I think it’s unfair to the animals to have people constantly getting off and on them is unfair. But it’s pricey and my friend went on it and the picture is so expensive 15 dollars for ONE picture! Not even great quality either.
We decided to take the shuttle bus to the children’s zoo because it was far and I notice that they now sell beer at the zoo! It’s located right at the shuttle bus station outside of Asia. Super cool! So as a member you get on the shuttle bus for free! It was a nice ride the staff is so friendly!
Th children’s zoo is absolutely adorable!!! It’s brand new and I think it’s so beautiful! We got to see prairie dogs (even the little babies!), otters, fish, turtles, farm animals, reptiles, rabbits and more. The children’s zoo is very interactive for kids. There is a beautiful slide that is in a tree and the kids love it! You can also feed treats to the farm animals. There is a big hand washing station as you leave. Children’s zoo is a ¹⁰⁄₁₀! VERY clean!
The Congo is also another one of my favorites you get to see the gorillas and more! The best is when you see the babies they are always out this time of year! It’s adorable! It’s nice to go on a weekday were it’s not too crowded and the gorillas aren’t overwhelmed. But it’s a beautiful enclosure and spacious!
The butterfly garden is a must! Actually every attraction is a must! They are all beautiful and fun to enjoy. Great for kids and have a lot of information to offer. Staff are also happy to provide information on any animal you’d want to know. They are very knowledgeable. I always come back but I recommend everyone to visit!
I would give it a 4.5÷5 due to the certain enclosures being small for some animals etc but since it’s so clean and the animals look healthy and they take care of them well I will give it a ⁵⁄₅. The service is always great as well!

The Bronx Zoo is big and has a lot of wildlife to offer.
As expected, most things are overpriced, which I’m fine with as long as it goes to wildlife conservation. The layout of the zoo has always been confusing, so expect to walk a lot. Most of the exhibits are nice. I have to say, however, that I was extremely disappointed with the gorilla exhibit. The gorillas looked depressed and completely aware that they were in a cage. The panthers and other big cats don’t seem to get as much space as they should.
But I still encourage anyone who hasn’t been, to go and see it for yourself. You will have a lot of fun. I just think there is still a lot of work that can be done to improve the quality of life for the bigger animals.

Not a bad zoo overall, but the depressed and stressed state of the animals made me really sad. I am in disbelief at how little space they’ve given to the lions, tigers, giraffes and the polar bear, while the zebras and flamingos have acres of land to roam on. There should be a more equal distribution of space. The poor polar bear had passed out in the 90-​degree heat and he had less space than I have in my tiny NYC studio. Not fair :(The grizzly bears had more space and space that allowed them to roam and climb, what’s up with that?
I felt even worse for the tiger, which was anxiously pacing back and forth, obviously suffering from the stress of being in captivity. All he did was just pace back and forth along this 10-​foot path over and over again. He should be free in a jungle somewhere. Zoos should be eliminated just like animals in the circus. You want to see animals, you should go on a safari. This is cruel.
Now I’ll get off my soapbox and give you some logistical info. You can take the 2 train from Manhattan and it’s just a short couple of blocks to the zoo. General admission is $ 20, but there are a lot of extras you have to pay for if you want to see special exhibits, like the gorillas, etc. So basically, and I’m being sarcastic here, anything where you can actually see animals is not included in the general admission. General admission is free if you have a NYC id card. I got a year membership for free with the Wildlife Conservation Society, which will let me get into other zoos for free for a year.
There are plenty of benches and outdoor/​indoor seating (not air conditioned) and a food court area, where you can get mediocre burgers, unhealthy and greasy junk food and such, a slushy, or ice cream. Or you can pack your own lunch and bring it with you. Beautiful historical buildings. Be warned that if you go on a terribly hot day, like we did, that many of the animals will be in hiding and you won’t be able to see them. Bring water with you. Map of zoo is not to scale, signage is confusing and misleading sometimes. Easy to get lost, it’s a big zoo. Tons of kids and oversized strollers everywhere.

I love coming to this Zoo. Believe it or not it’s been around for over 100 years. Wednesdays can be a hectic day to come, as the entrance fee is free. Because of that there are a lot of groups and schools that come on Wednesdays. You can chose the Ultimate Experience upgrade which includes entries to some of the other attractions once inside. Includes the Children’s Zoo, Butterfly Garden, 3-​D Theatre, Bengali Express, Congo and a bunch more. It pays for itself if you end up going even to a few of the extra attractions.
It’s a huge Zoo, so if you want to try and see everything, plan on spending most of the day here. Also plan on walking a lot so comfortable attire and shoes are a must. There is a Zoo Shuttle that will take you on a tour but that wasn’t available for some reason the day I went.
The Zoo is also broken up into sections that are themed according to the animals. The Monorail I think is a definite must. It’s a ride that takes you thru some of the animals that need a lot of space. Tigers, Deer, Elephants and a few more. It’s a guided tour so there is someone telling you about the exhibits while you are riding along. It’s about a 15 or 20 minute ride.
JungleWorld is also in this area, which is a building that has a replica of a Jungle including the animals that live there. Entrance is extra but included in the VIP upgrade. There also a camel ride option for the kids. This is extra as well.
The African Plains animals are along a long trail that includes Giraffes, Lions, Zebra and a few others. There’s a burger concessions stand here that looked pretty good. I ended up eating at the other café not knowing about this option. I’m definitely going to try this out next time. There are a few tables as well close by to sit and eat. The Dancing Crane Café is the main food option and it is pretty big as far as seating. Tons of outdoor covered picnic tables as well as a few outdoor uncovered. There are some indoor seating as well within the building which has the café. The food is pretty standard concessions, burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, etc. They also have fries and options for the fries like cheese, bacon, etc. They also have a Bronx Zoo sip cup where you also get free refills throughout the day at any of the concession stands that serve soda. Good option if you are spending the day here. I filled up with ice and water throughout the day as well as a few sodas.
Back to the attractions, there is the Congo Gorilla Forest, extra but included in the upgrade, Butterfly Garden, extra but included in the upgrade, Bug Carausel for the kids, also extra but included in the upgrade, and a bunch more. Usually the extras are in the buildings that are samples of whatever themed the building is.
The World of Reptiles, World of Birds, Madagascar, Birds of Prey, Sea Lions and a few more are all free. There are a few more things I didn’t get to see and I still spent almost all day here. Great way to spend a nice day.
There are a few parking lots and a few gates to exit and enter from. There is a charge for parking as well, I think it was $ 15. On a busy day the lots fill up quick. The subway, 6 line, is a few blocks away from one of the entrances as well.

«Free» admission on Wednesday. However, if you want to see the really good stuff like the gorillas, lions, elephants then you will be paying about $ 15 extra for the total experience add-​ons. Also, parking is $ 16. I thought that was on the high side.
Food was also expensive and pretty meh as others have repeatedly said.
Seeing the gorillas was an amazing experience. When the animals are active then it too is must see. Unfortunately the lions were resting as we drove by on the monorail. Overall, I enjoyed the viewing experience a lot and wavered between a 3 and a 4. I went with the 3 due to dollar considerations, mediocre food, and the fact some of the animals were acting «bored».
The grounds are very nice and I found it to be very clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Based on the usual all-​in admission cost of $ 30 (not including parking) versus the free Wednesday with $ 15 of total experience add-​ons, we saved $ 15 per person. However, it was very crowded. If you’re an individual or a couple, it might be worth the extra $ 15 per person, to go on a day other than Wednesday. For families, especially on a budget, Wednesdays are a must.

I came here on a Wednesday, «free admission Wednesdays!» the Wednesdays most reviews warned you about. I came here with 5 children and we all had an amazing time. I was acting more of a child than them because I was excited to see the animals at the zoo too. The staff there were very helpful from the beginning of my experience until the end. The staff at the parking lot guided me into a nice spot, $ 16 flat rate parking for cars. Very pricey. Went to their super cool eco-​friendly foam restroom, you’ll know what I mean when you see it. We arrived there at the time the zoo opened, at 10am. It was already really packed. Remember where you parked because they have a few parking lots! It was a distant walk to the actual front entrance of the zoo from the parking lot but lines were fast, no wait, no pressure on asking you for a donation either. The total experience was about $ 13 for each person and that includes the 4-​D theater which shows a 15 minute film, Bug Carousel, Butterfly Garden, Children’s Zoo, Congo Gorilla Forest for the day. The staff managed the big opening crowd really well. Don’t forget to pick up a map at the entrance, you will need the extra guidance apart from their helpful signs around the zoo. Of course, the zoo shuttle was closed. Be prepared to walk a lot if you want to get through to every animal and every attraction, wear your most comfortable shoes, sunblock, and bring water if you are new to the zoo. We went straight to the sea lion feeding at 11am. I was disappointed with the sea lion feeding. I expected a show or at least a few tricks, maybe for the sea lions to just spin around, clap their hands or something, nothing! The feeding kind of threw me off for the beginning of my experience but we went around to have our own fun. My absolute favorite part was the reptiles, I’m a huge fan of reptiles! Super long lines for face painting and airbrushed tattoos. The gift shop is really expensive for no reason. Overall, amazing, fun and very tired day,

Always one of my favorite places in NY. Almost too much to see in one day. It’s clean, we’ll maintained and the exhibits are diverse. Definitely needs at least a full day and bring comfortable walking shoes. Great if nice weather but still good when there isn’t because of the plentiful indoor exhibits.

The WCS Run for the Wild is super crowded, but also really fun. Face painting, rock climbing walls, and free giveaways galore. Running along side giraffes and peacocks is cute and a story worth telling. And of course staying behind at the zoo for the day is a delight.

This place is HUGE, so big that on our first visit we couldn’t even cover the whole park! It’s so much more fun than the Central Park Zoo and really offers a lot more than other zoos we have been to.
Can’t go wrong with a day at the Bronx Zoo, just be prepared to do some walking!

Came on donation Wednesday. Otherwise, I think this place is definitely too expensive to spend a couple hours. It is usually over $ 30+ per adult. Optimum rewards offer discount if u have the card from them.
It is a nice thing to do on a nice spring day. Just be warned, there are tons of school trips here daily. Don’t go to the restrooms right after the zoo center, if u can hold it wait until u get deeper into the zoo. where there are a lot less school kids are using them. Have to say, they do keep it pretty clean .considering the crazy volume of people coming in and out.
It is a bit of walking, u can opt for the shuttle to see everything. This is included in the total experience package.
Tons of variety of animals to see!!!

Definitely wear your walking shoes and be prepared to walk! Water is like $ 4.00 too so you’re better off bringing your own. Lots of kids — but thats a given.
100% check out the gorilla exhibit. Totally awesome. Based on my experience, I can say for certainty that they were the highlight of the zoo. One gorilla was literally banging on the glass, though that’s clearly not an ideal situation, it was soooo entertaining.

Bronx Zoo is spectacular! I absolutely cannot get enough of seeing all of the animals! I enjoy walking and exploring the zoo because it makes for great exercise and I get to see soany interesting things!, The fresh air, the views and all of the diversity represented with different types of animals makes this a wonderful place to visit!

I come to the Bronx Zoo every year with my 3^rd grade students and out of all the field trips we take within the school year, this is by far their favorite. I’m sure other teachers will agree, this is one of the best places in New York to take your students when you’re trying to teach them about animals and conservation.
PARENTS/​EDUCATORS: There are educational/​interactive science video’s for grades 5 to 12 on the Bronx Zoo’s website. The videos are great to show students before bringing them to the zoo.

As far as zoos go, this is one of the very best.
I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, with both class field trips and with regular visits. Now I take my son here and he loves it. He’d come here every day if he could. Excellent place for the kids. As I kid I loved coming here and now as an adult, I can appreciate it even more.
The Asian monorail is a favorite among visitors. If you have never been to the zoo before, make this your first stop since it crowds up quickly. The children’s zoo is well done for the kids — and the children love the feeding the goats, sheep, and such. The seal exhibit is also a favorite with 2 live feedings each day. Jungle World, Dora & Diego’s 4-​D Adventure, the Bug Carousel… the list goes on and on. You can spend an entire day here and if planned right, never see the same thing twice. For me, I like walking and you can easily walk miles here in the course of one day.
The only downfall of the zoo are the crowds of course (which is not the zoos fault). Weekends can be brutal with crowds, as well as «free» Wednesdays, which is the day everyone seems to crowd the place, from families to school trips… since it’s «free». Usually a donation is asked for, but a lot of people bypass that. The crowds can range as well and it’s sometimes hard to see what you want without people blocking you and the rest that comes with crowds.
If I was forced to complain about anything else, it would be the predictable food and gift shop rates. Granted, all theme parks/​zoos and such always overcharge for food and gifts, and this is no exception. The gift shop items can range — so be selective. Bought my son a toy from there that was cheaply made and didn’t last for the amount of money I spent. Being a member gives me a discount on food, items, and of course some of the exhibits and attractions, such as the Children’s zoo and the monorail. It can be pricey overall — but if you do become a member as I have, you do get to save some. The food itself is sub-​par for the price, but that’s mostly everywhere.
Anyway, great place to take the kids and spend the day. If you don’t like crowds, Monday or Tuesdays, both during the summer and the rest of the year are probably best days to go. Highly recommended.

We went there today in a gloomy weather but we had a lot of fun!
First of all, it only cost us 3 dollars for the tickets! Sweeeeet~ I’m the member, so I have free admission;)
Well, normally we won’t go for the zoo in the winter time, since I need to get my membership done and my sweet bf doesn’t allow me to go there by myself lol, so we decided to have a check.
It’s bit cold but it’s also the good thing Coz won’t be many ppl around, pretty chill and nice to walk around.
The best part of the day is we saw the tiger got fed by coincidence! Its awwwesome to see the big cat just standing in front of you within 3 meters distance and getting food from the zoo workers!!!
It’s really a big zoo with nice polite workers, very clean. We spent about 2 – 3 hours walking around and watching animals. Sadly there are few areas got closed and many kinds of animals got put away since it’s winter. Or we could spend longer time there and see more animals.
We definitely gonna go there again when it’s spring or summer! It’s really fun and great way to spend your weekend day!

This was a very nostalgic visit for me. I grew up in the Bronx, and I remember coming here with my family, as well as walking or bike riding here with the guys. But seriously, it’s probably been 45 years or so since I set foot through those fancy wrought iron gates.
I didn’t remember much about the zoo except for the camel rides near the Asia Gate. I distinctly remember going on one of those with my brother when we were little.
I saw some obviously old sections of the zoo (amazingly, the zoo goes way back to 1899) and some sections that looked very new.
Regardless of what is new and what isn’t, let me be clear about this– the zoo is 100% spectacular. It is magnificent.
The signage is incredible, they are everywhere, so it’s impossible to get lost or not find the exhibit you are looking for. If you don’t want to walk, there is a sweet monorail and a tram ride that snakes through the grounds.
The animal exhibits are swoon worthy. Just about every creature under God’s green earth can be found here. And you can get pretty close to them too! It seemed we were THISCLOSE to the lions and elephants.
The names of some of the exhibits will give you an idea of what you’ll see here — World of Birds, Tiger Mountain, Himalayan Highlands, Sea Bird Aviary, Birds of Prey, World of Reptiles, Butterfly Garden, Baboon Reserve, Congo Gorilla Forest, and African Wild Dogs.
We were lucky enough to be in the Lemur exhibit when it was feeding time, and when the young ladies with buckets of food walked into the exhibit, it was awesome to see a dozen animals sprinting toward them and line up on their tree branch to wait patiently.
There is a 4-​D theater with a 15 minute «Rio» movie to rest your feet, lots of souvenir and snack kiosks, a big Cafeteria Snack Bar (The Dancing Crane Café), and a few big gift shops.
The employees we came into contact with were all pretty friendly and engaging. The grounds were neat and clean, and we saw a lot of folks sweeping up at the outdoor picnic tables, to the dismay of the many peacocks strutting around who loved pecking at the French fries on the pavement.
The crowd here was very nice– tons of families enjoying an early fall day in the sun.
What an enjoyable day…

An einem Tag in New York bin ich mit meinem Sohn in den Bronx Zoo gefahren. Sicherlich ungewöhnlich in New York in den Zoo zu gehen, aber die Recherché im Internet hat mich davon überzeugt.
Zur Anreise benutzten wir die Underground. Ein bisschen mulmig war mir schon, aber im nachhinein hatte ich nie das Gefühl, dass dies gefährlich für uns war. Allerdings waren von Manhattan aus sehr viele Stationen zu fahren.
Von der Underground waren es ungefähr 10 Minuten Fußweg bis zum Haupteingang. Man musste immer nur den Schildern folgen. Zu unserer Überraschung galten am Mittwoch reduzierte Preise. Wir waren auch relativ früh dran, da der Park schon wieder um 17.00 Uhr schließt.
Der Bronx Zoo wurde bereits 1899 gegründet und ist mit mehr als 300 ha Fläche der größte in einer Stadt befindliche Zoo in den USA. Für mich der absolut größte Zoo, den ich je in meinem Leben gesehen habe. Gleich am Eingang bekamen wir eine kleine Übersichtskarte von einer freundlichen Dame überreicht, die uns den Park erklärte und hilfreiche Tipps parat hatte.
Neben den riesigen Gehegen und Tierhäusern, gab es Angebote wie die Monorail-​Bahn, Kamelreiten, 4D-​Kino, Dinosaurier-​Safari, Karussell, Pinguinfütterung, Seelöwenfütterung, Zoo-​Shuttle und vieles mehr. Ein kurzweiliger und spannender Tag.
Obwohl wir 6 Stunden im Zoo waren, haben wir es nicht geschafft alle Tiere und Gehege zu besuchen. Dieser Tierpark ist einfach nur gigantisch groß. Am Nachmittag wurde es dann auch sehr voll, so dass die Besichtigung der Tiere in den Häusern nicht so schön war. Lag sicherlich auch an den vergünstigten Mittwochpreisen.
Alles in allem ein fantastischer Zoo mit unzähligen Attraktionen und Tieren. Ich fand die Lebensbedingungen für die meisten Tiere sehr gut. Ich kann einen Besuch, gerade auch mit Kindern, absolut empfehlen.

Le Zoo du Bronx est immense!
Il y a beaucoup d’espace pour les animaux et il est bien entretenu. Il y a une forêt tropicale artificielle, d’autres décors naturels reproduisant leur environnement et énormément d’animaux de différente espèces.
J’étais comme une gamine quand je l’ai visité! Ca vaut vraiment le coup d’y aller.

Der Bronx Zoo mit mehr als 300 ha Fläche, ist der größte von New York und der größte Zoo in einer Stadt den USA. Im Park leben in natürlicher Umgebung mehr als 4300 Tiere. Startet man im Norden am Rainey Gate Entrance zu einem Rundgang im Uhrzeigersinn, so durchstreift man die Erdteile: Nordamerika, Asien, Afrika und Südamerika. Im Bronx Zoo findet man viele Tierarten, die in freier Wildbahn längst ausgestorben sind. Das ganz spezielle am Bronx Zoo ist, dass die Tiere fast wie in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung leben. Die Gehege sind riesig. Damit die Besucher überhaupt Tiere zu sehen bekommen sind die Futterplätze, in der Nähe des Besucherweges. Die Macher des Zoos haben sich hierzu viele Gedanken gemacht. z.B. gibt es für Hyjänen ein speziell konstruiertes Fütterungsgerät. Aus dem fassähnlichen Behälter (der in guter Sicht für die Besucher platziert ist) müssen mindestens 3 Hyjänen gemeinsam jede an einem Lederstreifen mit großer Kraft ziehen, damit ein Mechanismus des Fasses etwas Futter freigibt.

Bronx Zoo $ river $ waterfalls Häufg sind keine Zäune vorhanden sondern nur spezielle Gräben. Einige Tiere wie Schlangen, Schmetterlinge, oder Vögel sind in Häusern unter gebracht. Das Vogelhaus betritt man durch zwei hintereinander liegende Glastüren, wobei innen Kunststoffstreifen von der Decke hängen, damit die Vögel keinen Versuch starten hinaus zu fliegen. Fast nirgends trennt eine Glasscheibe, Besucher und Vögel.

Der Zoo war gut. Zwar recht teuer, aber das ist in Ordnung, die Tiere sollen gut leben.
Leider ist der Zoo so groß, dass man nicht Allem die Zeit zumessen kann, die es verdient. Also mussten wir etwas hier durchhetzen. War nicht so schön. Außerdem waren einige für mich interessante Ausstellungen geschlossen, deshalb vom perfekten Eindruck leider einen Punkt Abzug.

Immense zoo hyper fréquenté, on se croirait à Disney pendant les vacances. Le mercredi c’est gratuit par contre certaines «attractions» sont payantes (même si vous avez payé l’entrée du zoo). Moi j’ai déboursé quelques dollars pour voir les gorilles. Je me souviens surtout du passage dans un tunnel vitré où les gens se sont mis à hurler (oui hurler) parce qu’un gorille venait de faire un tour sur lui-​même. De même, devant les tigres (gratuit). Les gens hurlent beaucoup à New York…
Sinon, côté pratique, le métro vous déposé à 100 m de l’entrée du parc.

Schlichtweg der beste Zoo der Welt!

J’en attendais beaucoup…
Globalement, déçu.
Le parc est très grand… on y marche beaucoup pour passer d’une «attraction» à une autre.
Si l’on veut faire toutes les «options» (train, monorail…) la journée revient chère.

Après la petit déception du zoo de central park, visitez le zoo du bronx: un zoo immense, avec des animaux dans des décors naturelles (aucune cage) et facile d’accès en métro

Un zoo exceptionnel ! Par sa taille, par l’environnement dans lequel les animaux évoluent, par ses départements spécialisés dans une biosphère (Ah la touffeur de la jungle indonésienne !!!), par son petit train dans les arbres, par ses panneaux indicateurs et même par ses fast-​foods. Ce zoo vaut la peine d’être visité, il vaut ses trois étoiles Michelin, parce qu’il est conçu autrement !
Né manquez pas les tigres (juste derrière la vitre, là, on les toucherait), le bassin des hippopotames, que l’on voit de dessous, et découvrez derrière une vitre épaisse la fleur la plus grande du monde, le Rafflésia (qui sent presque plus fort qu’un Maroilles mûr).
On en sort plein d’expériences nouvelles, même pour les adultes.
Et puis prendre le métro jusque là-​bas, c’est vraiment voir autre chose que le très classique Manhattan

Mein Verhältnis zu Tieren ist widersprüchlich, schließlich bin ich kein Vegetarier. Ich gehe aber gerne in den Zoo, da ich neben Eichhörnchen eine Schwäche für Pinguine habe.
Mit den Pinguinen war in der Bronx nix los (daher ein Punkt Abzug), ansonsten war es lustig.
Wenn da nicht die Schulkinder gewesen wären, von denen ich mir einige auf die andere Seite des Alligatorsichtfensters gewünscht hätte. Schwamm drüber — ein ruhiger Tag in der Bronx (wieder ein Widerspruch?).

Der Zoo ist der größte Tiergarten der Welt mit über 100 Hektar und um die 4.300 Tierarten. Weiteres wäre in jedem beliebigen Reiseführer nachzulesen, daher hier nur meine zweieinhalb Highlights:
Besonders sollte eine Fahrt mit dem Monorail unternommen werden. Eine schöné und abwechslungsreiche Fahrt mit fröhlicher Kommentierung. Ich hätte auf noch drei Runden sitzen bleiben können.
Besonders stolz ist der Zoo auf seine Tiger, entsprechend inszeniert sind sie und auch sehenswert in ihrem großzügigen Auslaufbereich.
Besonders ironisch ist die kleine Raucherzone, die sich selbstverständlich und sinnigerweise am Camel-​Gehege befindet.

Zoo was

Un univers magnifique ou les animaux sont en pleine liberté dans une réserve naturel.
Un réelle bohneur de voir se spéctacle ou enfin brille la joie dans les yeux de tout ses animaux parfois en voie de disparition. Il né manqué de rien et se sentent comme chez eux que se soit dans la brousse ou ailleur.
Un spéctacle à rebondissement de temps à autre (bagarre, accouplement ect)
Ce zoo à une renommé éxtraordinaire car nombreux sont les touristes en période estivale. Formidable tout ces animaux mélanger et qu’ils vivent comme dans nos horrizons lointaines. C’est fabuleux je trouve, biensur il y a des séparations pour éviter que prédateurs et proie né se fasse la cours !!!
Vous pourrez également prendre le tramway (Wild asia) qui vous enmènera voir les animaux asiatiques, les plantes et bien d’autres éspèces, Mais se qui reste le plus insolite c’est la forêt aux milles trésors celle qui habrite les primates et les animaux en voie de disparition. C’est la plus grande forêt artifficielle de ses temps Un petit safari à pied qui né nous laissera pas indifférent!!!
