Okay I’ve been thinking about this review for awhile now and I’ve gone from wanting to give this place 5 stars all the way down to 1 star… Here’s why:
I was in a wedding in June. My sister, sister-​in-​law and myself all brought our dresses there to be altered. Everything was pinned up just perfect, no problem. We got our dresses the day before the wedding (yea, we did it last minute… these things happen). When we put them on we all noticed they fit great except they were loose under the arms, which was weird b/​c they had been pinned great!
The wedding was on a Sunday and I called on Tuesday to let them know that the alterations weren’t completely perfect. It ended up taking about 3wks to get in there — the tailor is only in until around 10am and I live in Quincy (I missed him a couple of times). So I tried it on and assured them that I didn’t lose any weight, reminding them that I called immediately after the wedding about the issue. I had paid $ 50 to have it taken in pretty much from the waist up (which I thought was pretty reasonable) and for whatever reason the alteration wasn’t perfect. I also brought 2 other dresses to be altered (1 taken in and the other straps shortened). They wanted to charge me something for the alteration on the said dress and I basically said, very nicely and quietly, that I paid $ 50 for the alterations and they weren’t up to expectation. I was insistent and got the fix on the alteration for free.
I picked up the dresses yesterday and didn’t try them on until I got home later that night. The 2 other dresses were perfect, my bridesmaid dress no longer zippered completely! I was shocked, angry and all around annoyed! I called this morning and spoke with the manager, Gary. I told him the story. I made it clear I didn’t expect to pay and that I needed it done today. It was all fine and good.
When I arrived Gary tells me he didn’t realize they had already done a free fix for me and he’d have to charge me something. I again said I didn’t think I should have to pay, etc. I tried it on and the tailor was able to forcefully get the zipper up the rest of the way, but I couldn’t really breath. He was able to let it out. I came back a little less than an hour later and it fit okay again.
The lady at the register, who was very, very nice told me Gary said to charge me $ 20 for the alteration. Seeing my disbelief she asked if I’d like to talk to him. He came up front and I told him again that I didn’t feel I should have to pay for it. Much to my shock Gary began raising his voice at me! Saying he didn’t think the tailor should have to keep fixing it for free. I answered in disbelief that he was making it sound like it was somehow my fault that the dress wasn’t being altered correctly and I paid for a service to be done. He shot back with «Can you meet halfway and pay $ 10?!» in an extremely rude tone. Again in complete disbelief I told him that I had already paid for a service that wasn’t done right why do I have to keep paying for it. It was all kind of a blur but Gary was definitely a little out of line as a manager especially because in NO WAY was I being rude about the matter. In fact I was about to start crying when the tailor came over and started to tell me to just take it and Gary was kind of to that point as well, but much ruder about it. I thanked the tailor with that shaky I’m about to cry voice and hightailed it out of there!
Soooo long story short… I really don’t know how to rate this place. The 2 women and the tailor I dealt with were all around pretty nice (the only thing was when I took it the second time and they had wanted me to pay but they were polite about it and agreed to not make me pay). Gary was seemingly nice at first but turns out to be kind of a big jerk. I was very happy w/​how my other dresses fit and I used their dry cleaning service as well and it was fine.
