Who are we? We are dedicated to providing the finest Martial Arts, Self-​Defense and Personal Life Skills Training within a comprehensive program of personal development and safety! You and/​or your children will be comfortable training with the other students in our school without the risk of being hurt or embarrassed! We will help you and/​or your children feel more confident and deal with bullies without becoming a bully!

We strongly believe in serving each individual student, and the specific needs he or she may have! Our instructors will keep you and or your children interested and motivated! Who we are not! We are not a quick boxing and ground fighting school that caters to the person that wants to become a professional cage fighter. Our program will teach you the necessary curriculum to receive a certified black belt in the traditional karate style named Uechi-​ryu. You can train at your own pace. Our membership programs are priced according to how many classes you wish to take. You can train one, two or three classes per week. Please come in and visit our state of the art facility with all the necessary training equipment and try a FREE no obligation class.

History

Established in 2000.

We have been in business since February of 2000. We now have a state of the art, clean, and fully equipped facility. We have two workout rooms (dojo) with a parent waiting area with viewing windows into each dojo. Men’s and Women’s dressing rooms. All of our instructors are certified black belts in Uechi-​ryu Karate Do. We have 3 7^th degree master instructors and a 5^th degree instructor teaching at our academy. We also have a 4^th degree instructor, a 3^rd degree instructor, two 2^nd degree instructors and two 1^st degree instructors that were all beginners at our school. We are the only school in Brockton that has been at the same location for over 15 years.

Business Owner

CEO of the Brockton Uechi-​Ryu Karate Academy Inc. (BUKA), Len began karate training in January 1980 at the Brockton Dojo of Mattson Academy of Karate under the direction of Master Instructor Bob Bethoney. After receiving a 1^st degree rank Shodan in 1983, Len has taught Uechi-​ryu Karate to thousands of children at various Brockton Community schools after school programs before opening the BUKA in February 2000. Len is now a 7^th degree rank of Nanadan and 2^nd degree master rank of Kyoshi. He is also the chief instructor and still teaches children, teens and adults of all ranks at BUKA. Helping to provide an atmosphere for children’s competition, Sensei Testa, an experienced tournament head referee, helped to found and promote the Uechi-​ryu Karate Championship Series comprising of three individual tournaments to accumulate points toward a Grand Championship. Len is affiliated with Bob Bethoney’s Bushido Organization, George Mattson’s IUKF and Kanmei Uechi of Uechiryu Karate Association.
