Treats On Washington Bakery/cafe

It’s definitely a treat to visit this place. The bakery looks like you stepped into your mom’s kitchen and she just happened to bake up the most amazing biscuits– which is a pretty big compliment from someone who was raised in the south. Now don’t feel ashamed to grab a slice of cake with those biscuits, trust me in its totally worth it and no one’s judging

Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet. Everytime I go here I leave with a weeks worth of breakfast food because usually I can’t get here before it closes. It’s a small cozy spot owned by two college friends. How cute is that? Supporting local is something I enjoys, especially when it’s delicious. It’s also one of the few minority-​owned businesses in the community. The prices are reasonable too. I usually get their bacon maple biscuit and the apricot and something new I haven’t tried. I’ll continue to support them and bring business their way.

I have been frequenting Treats a lot lately. Trying all different types of items to constitute a well rounded review.
I love the «treats» here. They cover both sweet and savory for any time of day. The caramel crunch coffee cake is delicious and as other reviewers have mentioned they do not skimp on the portion. You could absolutely eat this for a few days or share it with a friend.
My favorite thing here is the biscuits! They are amazing. The maple bacon biscuit does not disappoint. Lightly glazed on top with maple, big pieces of actually bacon baked right in. Yum! I’ve had this biscuit heated with butter and also topped with their homemade gravy. I’m a sucker for biscuits and gravy, Treats version does not disappoint AND you can take it to go.
They also do a great frittatta of the day. Perfect for lunch or breakfast.
There’s muffins, cookies, brownies, cakes, bread, sandwiches … this place has a great variety.
Im giving 4 stars because I have only had coffee here once. It’s good… not great. I usually grab a cup from café nation then head to treats for breakfast. Supporting both local businesses :)

i can’t imagine a better food to start off my morning than the warm cinnamon sugar biscuit with butter from treats on washington in brighton. i’m a bagel fanatic (is that okay to say if i don’t usually eat breakfast and i’m only into four types of bagels and i love bruegger’s?), so hear me out. there are a lot of really great breakfast foods in the world. some are great for themselves, such as the croissant, or even the chocolate croissant. however, if a croissant is filling — and i rarely find it to be so — it’s filling in the wrong way. conversely, pastries often labeled breakfast foods — cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, and the like — are impossible to eat comfortably at the beginning of a full day. foods for lazing, like pancakes, work on sundays. crumbly foods, like muffins, seem to have no impact when lying in pebble form at the bottom of your stomach. fruits and eggs taste right going down and are immediately forgettable. and for the most part, breakfast in the mornings makes me slightly nauseous. so i avoid it altogether.
which brings us to treats on washington. this morning, as all mornings when i dine successfully at treats on washington, i ordered a biscuit with cinnamon sugar. this is not to be confused with a scone — too sweet and heavy for so early. this is a biscuit proper. layered, fluffy, the whole deal. the twist, however, is a layer of cinnamon sugar that achieves exactly the right level of that mysterious sweet foods for breakfast thing. the sweetness isn’t overpowering, the way it might be in a cinnamon sugar donut or muffin. you get just a tinge. it comes out warm, and no matter the temperature, that’s somehow essential to the feeling of satiation. it also comes out buttered. i like this: they don’t trust you to know exactly the amount of butter that will complement the biscuit in the way they’ve intended, so they take the liberty of spreading it for you. somehow, this increases my level of confidence in the biscuit experience. i have the utmost trust in their intentionality regarding the creation and presentation of this biscuit.
now i’m on the bus to work, and it feels exactly the right way. not greasy or sticky or any other potentially offensive aftermath, inevitably heightened at this time of day. i feel full and well cared for. i feel ready to face the day. what a biscuit.

Finally — the ultimate breakfast and sweets comfort food café. Normally the feeling of indecision can be unsettling, but this place makes makes that feeling exciting because it is hard to choose among all their scrumptious from scratch expertly inspired edibles for vegans and non-​vegans. I know whatever I get is going to be really good. I would recommend this place and as others pointed out the biscuits are heavenly.

Their Americano is why I keep coming back their pastries are also great. I do wish they had better air condition to read more comfortably.

I absolutely love this place. I have been hooked on the biscuits, maple and bacon and cheddar and jalapeño are delicious and they serve a nice cup of coffee.
Love that they serve biscuits and gravy, though I have not tried them. Great option in Brighton center

Got a double choc mini cake and garden veggie sandwich, lightly toasted.
Sandwich was good, actually would get it again.
Never get the mini cake! Maybe try the full cake but it’s a full cake so can’t buy a small piece. I don’t like frosting so I’m naturally against it. This mini cake further emphasises my impression. Secondly the cake itself didn’t taste very fresh nor very good choc. Hence I’m quite disappointed by their choc.

The vanilla donuts and oatmeal were amazing! Customer service was wonderful! One of my favorite places.

This place is charming, and the food is delicious. I always have a hard time choosing what I’d like, but no matter what I choose, it is always tasty and fresh. They also make amazing coffee – some of the best milk foam I’ve ever had. (That may seem like a small thing, but I love a cappuccino with dense, rich foam that doesn’t immediately fall apart in the mug. And this place provides that perfectly.)

Their biscuits and gravy is the BEST! Even after reheating. I went in the morning and got it to go, and my only regret is that I spilled some of the gravy after arriving at work :(such loss…

I love this place. I’m a regular.
My favorite things are:
1) Breakfast: frittata (the red pepper, feta & spinach one — SO AMAZING), their biscuits, their doughnuts — omg, their caramel crunch coffee cake is SO GOOD. They are super generous — last time I took a piece to go, I ate it for 2 – 3 days.
2) Lunch: the curried lentil soup is SO GOOD. They give you a piece of delicious ciabatta to go with it, and it’s definitely a meal and a half.
I’m not a huge fan of their cookies, but my friends like them.
I also love their attitude. They rock the chill tunes, and always donate a ton to local organizations (schools, homeless shelters, etc.). I always have trouble choosing if I want to go here or to Cafenation, but I like the food better at this joint.

Treats on Washington is a fun bakery to visit. While a bit small, the store is always a pleasure to walk into. The selection of sweet and savory goods are eminently fresh and make the perfect breakfast/​brunch/​lunch. They push the scones, but I adore their muffins and pastries. I love how their vegan goods (tried on a whim) taste just as good as non-​vegan. The coffee is great and always goes well with whatever special item they cooked up that day (like fresh donuts!).
However, if you really want to find a treasure, look no further than their pies. Their fruit pies are fantastic, but I swear the chicken pot pie is the best I’ve ever tasted.
Once in a while the ladies run a special music-​inspired dinner for a small group (called Fork & Tune). I’ve heard it’s quite good and one of these days hope to take part.

Cute little place on Washington Street. Red velvet cake was oh so yummy. Chocolate chip cookie was good, but not great. And, girl behind counter was very friendly!

A team of 2 amazing women owners/​bakers that let me indulge my vegan sweet tooth!
Even after moving 7 towns way! I would still make it down on the weekends to get my sweets :)
The 2 women were sooooo friendly and welcoming and we would talk abit an joke and I just loved their shop!
Then one time last year i came in all smiles and thought that we would catch up and grab my usual vegan cookie and muffins and NADA!
She looked upset like someone pissed in her cheerios! but it wasnt me! so what gives?
I chalked it up a bad day and went back the next month! and BOOM again! the same crap! Its like all of a sudden I was on their shit list! But we never exchanged a cross word? I love their baked goods and did like them personally and the atmosphere of the cute place, but whats up ladies??? HOW RUDE!
Im your year after year good customer and I get this???
See ya! I’m going to Mirror Café! sure its old and run down but they have tons of coffee flavors and they remember me from 12 yrs ago as I’ve lived in Brighton for sooo long and came in every now and then!
But your loss! what a sad way to loose a good customer! go pout at someone else this vegan chick is outta here!

I’m trying to be healthy but all the baked goods here are NOT helping. I got a maple bacon scone and a latte most recently. The maple bacon scone was out of this world. They gave me some butter in a container and sent me on my merry way.
I ate it for breakfast the next day, and am in love! I can’t wait to try their Lemon Poppyseed (yeah, it’s frosted).

The owners are fantastic and went to culinary school together. Everything is baked fresh on the spot each morning. Great selection of teas, too.
I would recommend the cream cheese Belgian-​style brioche, the blueberry muffins, the cinnamon sugar and maple bacon biscuits, and the chai hot tea.
There are many bakeries in Brighton, but there’s a reason this one’s the best.
P. S. On the weekends, they bake fresh croissants :)

One of the biggest things that draws me to Brighton is that they have no lack of locally-​owned cafes and bakeries. With that said, it’s a challenge to stand out here. I have my little mental list of places I can go to work, relax and indulge and Treats makes that list.
The people who work here have a talent for making amazing soul-​warming desserts. You know the kind — flaky apple pie, warm homey jelly donuts… not that molasses-​thick coma-​inducing Godiva cheesecake from the chain restaurant down the road. This is a place where you can go to feel cozy and happy, instead of sick to your stomach and guilty.
One of the things Brighton Center is short on is cafes where you can chill and do your work. Treats is a good place to do that, particularly because Cafenation has people flowing out the doors on weekends. You can come to Treats in the morning and have a nice coffee and round it out with a really good sandwich or a thick soup. My point is — it’s not just sweet «treats». The man next to me was just asked how his soup was. He ducked his head and whispered «Unbelievable!»
The one thing that is keeping this from being a 5-​star interview is that their environment is a little dusty and cold-​feeling, reminiscent of a grandparent’s breezeway if you can imagine that. That said, it’s a minor thing and I’m sure it’s just a side effect of people walking in all day long from rainy and snowy weather and bring dust and dirt in. I think a weekly sweep of the window sills and some warmer non-​metal seating could go a long way in cozying this place up.
(I’m wondering if they have outdoor seating during the summer. That’s another thing that could make them stand out amongst the café competition here. Pardon this sentence if they already do this. Thinking out loud. :)
