History

Established in 1984.

Community Rowing was founded by a group of National Team and Olympic rowers who wanted to make the Charles River and the sport of rowing accessible to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Rowing used to be a sport that was accessible only to the lucky few — CRI is dedicated to changing that forever.

CRI’s amazing boathouse is named after a legendary Harvard Coach, Harry Parker. Coach Parker was one of the original supporters of «Rowing for All» and played a critical role in making the river accessible. With the winning-est record in collegiate sports, Coach Parker is an inspiration to everyone who walks through the door at CRI.

In keeping with the mission of «Rowing for All» CRI was founded with the idea that everyone who walks through the door is a part of the community. There are no memberships or requirements to join, except for an interest in sharing the experience of a great sport, out on a beautiful river in Boston.
