Citizens Bank

Kindness is what I look for in a bank. They’re all patient, friendly, and informative. I find the building intimidating in the middle of a Brighton neighborhood. I enjoyed the experience and I will be back again soon!

Canceling all accounts. Tired of the random fees. I dont think anyone there really cared that i was canceling my accounts. They made no effort to keep me or even ask why i was canceling the account. I wonder how much longer Citizens will last.

This particular Branch is «ok», My primary issue with Citizens isn’t so much their branches as it is them as a whole. Their fees are OUTRAGEOUS (32+ dollars per over drafted item, 7.99 PER DAY CHARGE until account it brought to positive). The way their system processes debits and deposits still remains an illusive mystery. Either the ENTIRE employee base really has no clue how it works and give you their best guess, or they are trained to deliberately give you vague non solid answers. At one point I was told that «If i think I might overdraft, I have 24 hours to make a deposit and not be dinged». Then it turned into «You only have until 11:30pm» which has lately turned into «You have until we end OUR business day» (which i was also told, that even they, the employees can’t even see. It was at that point I said «So your real time online banking is a sham? It’s never fully accurate is what you’re saying» — «Oh no, online banking is fine… it’s accurate.» Which is a lie. What’s even worse than that as a previous reviewer mentioned, the branches have been stripped of their ability to assist a customer with un-​needed/​un-​warranted overdraft fees (this forces you to call customer service on the phone and relieves them of ANYTHING a branch employee may or may not have told you about anything). For example, I knew i had 3 transactions, that once they posted would put me in negative. I go to a local branch while my account is still positive and make a deposit that would cover the incoming transactions and leave a little cushion… was even told by the rep that I would be in the clear… WRONG. I wake up the next morning, get to work, check my balance, not only was I in the negative, but I had been charged over hundred dollars. If that had been the case, I wouldn’t have deposited the only money I had for the next week until payday. So I found myself flat broke, owed them money and the 7.99 a day charge racked up another 56 in fees by the end of the week. When I called customer service (cause branches can’t help with that sort of issue), the lady I spoke with was abrasive, dismissive, and ultimately told me «It’s not Citizens Fault you can’t manage your money.» I LOST it. i understand it’s not Citizens job to manage my money for me, BUT IT IS THEIR JOB to give me correct information so I can make informed decisions. I asked to speak with her supervisor, and he was just as rude and un-​helpful and just as snotty when he said «You need to keep a better eye on your register». I was floored. I’ve since opened an account with a credit union (have never in my life had an issue with credit unions, I went with citizens because of the abundanace of ATMs and branches when I first moved to Boston) and have begun my financial exodus from citizens. They don’t give three shades of shit about their clients. If you’re in the market for a decent bank, stay away from corporate banks. Credit Unions are truly the way to go. The fee schedules are reasonable, their customer service is impeccable, and they are ALWAYS nice and friendly for having your business. I’d give them ZERO starts if Unilocal would allow for it.

It took me 15 minutes to deposit a check from Canada in this branch. Took 3 minutes to wait in line, 10 minutes for one teller to stare at the screen before another teller was involved and they figured that yes, it is a foreign check deposit, then took 2 minutes for actual processing.
Citizens itself is convenient enough with plenty of ATMs, but I won’t be using this branch again.

Why are the tellers so rude at this branch?

My opinion of Citizens bank keeps going down. The local branches of Citizens no longer have the power to remove overdraft charges from your account at their discretion. And the charges are outrageous. I say, do not choose this bank unless you are the type of person who can keep a $ 500 cushion in your bank account at all times. It’s too bad – I love the ubiquity of this bank and it’s bright green signs all around Boston. But, I need to find a new bank fast.
