Caretel Inns of Brighton

This facility looks great, but the care was not good at all. My family member was discharged supposedly because her Medicare funding had been used up, but we found out at the facility she was sent to that that was not true. She was sent out because she had multiple needs that they didn’t want to deal with. They provided very poor discharge planning that helped contribute to my relative sustaining an injury at the next facility. I also was told by two staff members that they were looking for alternate employment. Maybe if you have minor needs and great insurance they would be a good fit, but for anything more complicated go elsewhere.

Caretel Brighton needs much improvement. I believe the nurses and staff are terribly overworked and underpaid. Is it normal for the nursing staff to clean the dining room? They are saddled with so much extra responsibility, that patient care is not the first priority. My Grandmother was sent to Caretel after a fall and was very unhappy. Her call light was not answered in a timely manner, hence, she would often wet herself. Due to this, she tried to get up to the restroom herself and fell out of the wheel chair, causing severe injuries. Again, the nursing staff is working really hard, but there simply aren’t enough of them. My mother overheard some staff members discussing alternate employment, leading us to believe most of the staff is unhappy. In addition, the social worker offered absolutely no information. At the «care meeting,» we had to lead the meeting. She did nothing but review medications (after we had to ask about them) and give one word answers. After this most recent fall and a stay in the hospital, Grandma is receiving therapy at a different facility. We are thanking our lucky stars she doesn’t have to go back to Caretel.

Save your time and money and find somewhere else to take your family member or friend that needs help. The best thing I can say is that the techs and nurses were good. However, the physical therapy was administered by individuals with very broken english, and were limited in what they were allowed to do. For example they would not work with a person that needed therapy for prostetic leg. In addition, my grandfather was kicked out with only hours notice because they said there was nothing more he could gain from being there. We had to scramble to get health related items with no notice. The social worker looks and acts very young and seems as though she is just learning the job.

When my grandma fell last fall, she didn’t know where to go for extended rehab before she could go back to her own apartment. The hospital sent her to Caretel. Although it certainly wasn’t her own place, she said it was miles better than where she’d had to stay on another rehabilitation.
More recently this spring, she had another injury (this happens when folks get older!). She knew before the hospital even talked about rehab that she wanted to go back to Caretel. When we visited her there, we could tell she was happy. The staff were also kind to us and our toddler daughter during our visit. Luckily the cuteness of our daughter seems to outshine any inconvenience (sorry about that door alarm!).
My grandma was satisfied not only with the housing, but the physical therapy she received as well. She was back in her own place within a couple months, as promised.
