History

Established in 1969.

Reginald R. Scott, Sr. and John Suchanoff are the founders of Big John’s Pizza in Bridgeton, New Jersey. Both these men had worked for Bruni’s Pizza of Bridgeton. John Suchanoff was the Manager of Bruni’s and «Reds» (as Reginald was known) used to hang out in the store as a young boy of 11. John eventually decided to put Reds to work since he was always there after school. Reds started out making boxes and cleaning up the kitchen area. When he was about 16, John decided to teach him to roll the dough and make pizzas. Reds said «From the moment my hand first touched the dough I KNEW that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.»

I’m from Philly. Where they make good pizza. I went here after hearing so many people say how good it was. After opening the pizza box, the pizza looked and tasted like slop. People around here have weak taste buds.

I’m very biased. The pizza is great and the lifetime of memories of family pizza night with Big Johns pizza add even more to their greatness. My whole extended family orders party trays from them for our children’s birthday parties and no one complains!!! I know people who move away and when they come back to town Big John’s is a must!

Big John’s Pizza is a Bridgeton institution. I grew up eating it, and as I matured I used it as my benchmark. I have traveled a lot, and eaten much tastier pizza, with fresher toppings, but the charm of Big John’s is endearing, and does bring back childhood memories. Very busy on weekends, and quality will surprisingly rise the busier they get, with respect to the crust. When they have too much time, they may botch the crust. The sauce is sweet, and depending on whether you get extra cheese or not, can be too wet. Extra cheese is suggested.

Stopped in for lunch the other day and got a small pepperoni pizza. They put the raw pepperoni on the pizza after it is done cooking. I have never seen that, nor would I recommend it. I think my favorite part of eating a slice of pepperoni pizza is when the pepperoni curls up and gets crispy while cooking. Maybe next time I’ll ask them to put the pepperoni on early. I think the sauce and crust were excellent, but they were a little heavy on the sauce for my preference.

The best pizza on Earth! The sauce is outstanding and plentiful, especially upon request. The crust is superb. It’s well worth the trip to Bridgeton for this pizza. I’ve never tasted better and I’ve tried many, many pizzas. Awesome!

Their pizza is an acquired taste… personally I don’t care for it, but I’ll eat it on occasion because it’s popular with friends and loved ones. Their sauce is a sweet sauce, and the sausage is an odd texture that’s more grainy and crumbly than meaty. I don’t like the Sicilian style pizza from here AT ALL, which is what most people from around here swear by, go figure… it’s way too bready, the sauce is too sweet and the cheese is nasty and waxy and gets worse the longer it sits out… no thanks.

This place should be on Diners Drive-​ins and Dives… really unique. They used to take the phone off the hook on Friday nights in order to keep up with the orders… love this place, it has been a family favorite since I was born! Double crust with sausage, peppers and onions. Mmmmm.

I’m not a big pizza eater but I’ll try not to be biased.
This place is so old school. When you call, you need to know exactly what you want and how to order it or they will hang up on you. When you go in, it’s all older men, very hot, and again– old school.
The pizza was alright. I ate two slices. It’s was sicillian too. If I never went back, id be okay. But it was alright.

Parking is tough but the pizzas are hot and on time. the owner is generous with his outreach to the community and speaking truthfully this is a must stop for any returning folks originally from this area.

My wife’s family orders from big johns all the time. Unfortunately they’re pizza is the worst pizza I’ve ever had the misfortune of eating. First off it looks like someone dumped your pizza upside down in the box, then Dropped it on the floor before you got there it’s so messy. Second, it’s always soggy the pizza always falls apart and slides off the crust. Third, it jut tastes awful, I would rather buy a frozen pizza and have that for dinner then order from this place. When I go to a function and they order big johns I wait to get home and eat. It also gives me the shits if I do eat it. If it was possible to give a place zero stars, I most certainly would exercise my right to do so on this review.

This is the best pizza in the world. Don’t fight it… go all-​in for extra pepperoni. Although I don’t live in town anymore, I’ve searched all of California for better pizza and it just doesn’t exist. One of my favorite expereinces growing up in Bridgeton, NJ was Big John’s PIzza!

Big Johns is awesome. There’s only one thing you can get when you go there: PIZZA. They’re real affordable and have been in business since 1969. The place is legit. I strongly recommend getting a party tray from them… they’ve got such a unique recipe and a great sauce. go you won’t regret it.

Unlike any pizza you’ve ever had, in a great way. Difficult to describe. Just try it and you will not be disappointed. Cheeseburger is the best, but you can’t go wrong. And get the party tray. Anything smaller and you’ll wish you had.

Best Pizza EVAR!!! :) Seriously, a party tray with extra cheese and pepperoni is probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten. Even 1200 miles away, every time I make it back to my hometown I have to have Big John’s Pizza. There’s just nothing like it anywhere… IF you’re a pizza connoisseur and are within 100 miles, it’s worth the drive to have the best pizza you’ll ever taste!
