Rodriguez Karate school aims to provide the community with a physical fitness program in the art of self-defense which will serve to enhance self-esteem, develop character, and provide motivational technique for a more rewarding and productive life.
History
Established in 1982.
In 1982, Hector began training in American Goju under the instruction of GrandMaster Peter Urban and Sensei William Grady. American Goju focuses on self-defense techniques coupled with hard blocks, punches, and kicks and also places great emphasis on oriental philosophy. By this time Rodrigiuez who had been instructing for decades opened his own school in Bridgeport, Connecticut which now offers training in American Goju, Tao Goju and Shotakon.
The Rodriguez Karate Academy moved into its current location on Madison Avenue in Bridgeport, Ct in 2012 where Rodriguez has continued the tradition of teaching the art form to children, something that began when he first took classes from Rex Lee. Today Rodriguez and his youthful students continue to win many awards and trophies for their attention to detail but Rodriguez is most proud of their development is young men and women.

Business Owner
Hector began his martial arts career in 1968, training in the art of Sanuces-Ryu, a form of self-defense that focuses on vital pressure points to control or subdue an assailant. As student of GrandMaster Moses Powell, Hector studied Sanuces-Ryu until 1970, when he joined the Tao-Te-Ching Institution of Martial Art.
While in high school, Hector began studying Chinese Goju under the guidance of GrandMaster Ron Van Clief (5 time world champion and start of 26 major karate films), who created the style. Ron Van Clief of had been given the name «Black Dragon» by Bruce Lee himself. Chinese Goju differences from its American counterpart as it focuses on vital pressure points and emphasizes free sparing and self-defense techniques. While in High School Rodriguez continued to study eventually becoming a student of film star Shidoshi Ron Van Clief of New York who was given the name «Black Dragon» by Bruce Lee himself.
