I have made this journey to the MCCS Bridgeport/MWTC twice with my unit prior to my deployments. I can hear many of my brethren complain about what we are to embark on, which will be a grueling test of our endurance, strength and mental fortitude in cold snowy mountain ranges. But, I perhaps feel differently about what we are about to endure. I think I find solace and tranquility in the destitute of this training location. It’s almost like another world, you are quite far out from any cell reception and the amenities are bare and simple – its almost spartan like. The first thing you’ll take notice when entering the camp is that it is set in lower plains region which are flanked by large mountains, which are quite picturesque. The training area(lower base camp) is well kept and the facilities are relatively clean(with the aide of the tears of PVT’s and PFC’s). There is small PX which for the most part meets many of your basic need(Fat-kid food, cigarette, dip/chew, and nuddie mags.) The gym is actually very complete to even include an indoor basketball court and even a rock climbing wall(not that you’ll will actually use any of this crap, cause you’ll be hiking and freezing balls in the hills). The chow hall is very well kept too, it has large windows which show cases the incredible views of the mountain sides. The food, to my surprise was actually more palatable than most chow halls(but, I wouldn’t try to look forward to this because you’ll probably only eat here during the first few days and the last few days of your stay at MWTC.) I will have to say that this training facility is world class in spite of its limited comforts, this training center plays host to many different units; you’ll bump into all types of troops here from the regular ‘Joe’, Marines, Rangers, Seals, or even those ‘questionable’ dudes. This place ain’t too bad… I think I even really like it here. Pro: –Clean and Well maintained –World Class training facility –Short runway and a Helo Pad LZ –Plenty of snow(so you can test out those ‘Great’ snow shoes they issue) Con: –The OPFOR(These guys keep on harassing us, every time we go out patrol they shoot blanks at us, keeping us up at all hours of the night, those bastards!) Overview: This training site is great. Its simple but you’ll have all your basic needs. The training that you’ll endure will most definitely test your will; although, when you’re done you’ll kick back and have a few beers and think…“meh, that wasn’t too bad.” «The only easy day was yesterday»
