Specialties

Harborview specializes in the best coffee, cookies and sandwiches in Connecticut. We use Boar’s Head meats, brew premium coffees and make our own cookies, muffins, scones and croissants.

If you can’t make it to the store, we happily offer delivery with a $ 15 minimum order. Have an event coming up? We cater! Our catering includes trays of sandwiches, hot dishes, salads, and, of course, our famous cookies. Please call for pricing and details.

History

Established in 1993.

The original Harborview Market was a thriving market for years dating back as far as the 1930s. The original owners were a family who built the business selling Swedish good. Eventually the original owners sold and the new owner of the building sought to develop the location into high rise apartments. The neighborhood which has always tried to preserve its special identity came out against it, and won. As a result the location simply fell into disrepair.

Fast forward to 1993 when the young and ambitious Rick and Michele Torres took the reigns. Rick, being a trained carpenter, got to work on the extensive repairs. Michele prepared the business for a revitalization all while caring for their 4 children at home. After years of hard work and dedication to Black Rock, Harborview is a cornerstone of the neighborhood. We encourage you to come and be a part of our special market.

Business Owner

Michele gives Harborview the at-​home feeling. She works everyday hand-​making cookies, cooking hot lunches and our famous soups. She is also responsible for day-​to-​day operations at the store, regularly seen behind the counter and even on the grill on Sundays. There really is no Harborview without her!

This neighborhood market has a relaxed vibe and neighborly feel. The food is made every day… fresh ingredients and creative menu.
I love the «Son of a Beach»…it’s an English muffin with sautéed baby kale, egg, cheese, red onion and hot sauce. Super delicious! Coffee is hot/​fresh/​strong.
The cookies are sinful. (Pass on the muffins as they are too Cakey for me). Michele and Rick are very personable and friendly.

Bridgeport needs more places like this! (And YES Black Rock is part of Bridgeport no matter how much some of the residents try to set themselves apart.) It’s very homey and family friendly, a laid back place to get breakfast, sip some tea or grab a coffee and a pastry. I have never tasted a better almond croissant in my LIFE. Get it while it’s fresh and it melts in your mouth. But it’s not always available. I believe the owner makes them himself. The cookies are outstanding too. I’m not crazy about raisins but even those are good! I’ve had the pancakes and they could easily compete with the likes of Chip’s. The omelets are outstanding. My go to is a sandwich called The Beach. Its bacon, egg, avocado and Tabasco sauce on a Portuguese roll. (Be sure to tell them how you want your egg.) Yesterday I tried their chocolate raspberry coffee and it was AMAZING. I hardly needed any sugar. They also have an array of teas that would satisfy any tea lover. The outdoor area is great for a nice day and super dog friendly too. On weekends there is usually a singer playing acoustics. If you are impatient avoid this place on the weekends! It gets crowded early. Also, be mindful that this is a do it yourself kind of place. It took me a while to get the hang of it and sometimes I still get confused. I recommend paying when you order so you don’t have to stand in line twice.

Delicious food– less than favorable staff at the front. Young gentleman seemed annoyed that he had to answer questions/​give us a moment to look at the menu (as it was our first time). My wrap was out of this world though. I will go back because the food was that good, but I truly hope all of their staff isn’t as bad as what I experienced. We tipped him anyway, but in the event their attitudes are still garbage I will keep my money to myself. Try it out– maybe I just came when he had his period.

Their strength is the baked goods. The cookies, croissants and muffins are to die for! Breakfast sandwiches and dishes are just kind of average. You also have to make your own waffles, which we weren’t expecting. Too much of a «figure it out yourself/​do it yourself» atmosphere. So we will be back for the baked goods but not breakfast.

In all fairness, I’ve been here only once, but I am a fan. I stopped by last weekend when the weather was nice enough to sit outside in December. I ordered an omelet with tomato, basil and mozz and a side of home fries. Everything was delicious and I loved the atmosphere with a busy morning crowd taking some time to relax and listen to and enjoy the live music.

What a great breakfast and lunch nook. Their menu is creative and I’ve always been impressed with the quality. Last time I ordered just a Ruben sandwich it came out hot and the toast was crispy. I’ve had plenty of sub par Rubens with soggy bread. As for Rick’s famous croissants, the only way to get these are hot out of the oven. You may have to wait for the next batch, but it is so worth it. They go quickly, especially on the weekends. A helpful hint if you’re ordering food «to go». Pay when you order to avoid having to wait in line twice. Enjoy!

Slow Service with a frown. This place is terrible. The girl at the cash register was a complete, cold face, b*t$h and when I inquired about an item on the menu she was very short and gave me a one word cold faced answer. Even if I wasn’t a customer, this person was miserable. Took me forever to get my food.
Do not go here. This place is a disaster, and the owner is a complete moron. Learn how to run a business and train your probably under paid employee’s some manners.

This place ends my search for the perfect breakfast place. The homemade baked goods (especially the almond croissants) are so delicious and fresh made, a new tray came out almost every 10 minutes the whole time we were there. But also healthy items — we also got the BEACH sandwich which was great. It is the perfect mix of casual, cute, and funky. And crowded, but not packed. We’ll be back all the time!

Lovely mom & pop café located in Black Rock! Different atmosphere then anything located in the neighborhood. They have very fresh baked goods. Tried the almond croissant and also the chocolate chip cookies. Also went for the unique breakfast sandwich called the beach, all of which were fabulous. Has beautiful but limited outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seats. Great place to bring a friend or family members to enjoy breakfast or brunch. Would have gave 5 stars if the breakfast sandwich didnt take as long to come out but in the end it was worth the wait.

I understand the hype as it’s very different and the outside is beautiful in an adorable neighborhood. I mean how many times do you get to go to a restaurant that is right next door to where someone lives? But very non traditional service. It’s kind’ve figure it out yourself mentality when you walk in. Amazing Fresh baked Goods on the left, coffee all the way around on the right… No actual line to stand in and then you wait a solid half hour if you order food. Great ambiance and delish cookies!

Nice little coffee, breakfast and sandwich shop in a nice neighborhood of Bridgeport. Staff is very friendly, and the menu has many options. Plenty of indoor seating and about 7 outdoor tables.

My daughter found this restaurant many years ago. It seemed her girlfriend’s grandmother lived in the area and went here when she was a little girl. Great food and drink. Very relaxing neighborhood place to have coffee and read the paper or meet friends. The service is great and they never rush you. It’s not easiest place to find, so ask a local for directions. Very enjoyable time with my daughter and family. There’s outside tables so you can watch the world go by. Relaxing experience.

We found this place on Unilocal when we passed by Connecticut. It’s a very cozy place for a Saturday brunch; there are wooden tables and chairs everywhere, and there’s also a small fireplace in the corner. We ordered the beach and the Irish omelette. Both dishes were tasty. My only complaint is that the hazelnut made me sick after we finished the breakfast.

This place would have gotten 5 stars butttt the service was a bit slow and confusing. It was our first time here and we were given no direction on how everything works. Coffee is hidden in the back. They don’t tell you they’ll bring out your food.

Great omelets. Great homemade croissants and baked goods. Great atmosphere. Fun on Sundays with the family. Usually some live music going. Have different local artists display their work on the walls monthly. Makes for interesting conversation. Patio dining in spring and summer. Fireplace in winter. Go there for the atmosphere: this is a very special place where you sit and share a table with guests already sitting. The menu is nice without being fancy, salads are fresh, tasteful and attractive. The cheese burger could be larger to fully appreciate its quality.
The restaurant concept is worth trying, simply because it s nowhere to be seen in the area with its grocery on the side, fresh coffee beans by the weight and the waffles.
Special Kudos for the cookie, they absolutely deserve their ‘best in the Fairfield County’ rating

Is it possible to be depressed while eating breakfast — all BECAUSE of your breakfast?
We came here based on the Unilocal reviews, and I have to say it’s a huge disappointment. The décor is like taking a step back in time to the 70’s, and that’s ok. It’s pretty much all community tables, and that’s still ok. The food, however, is not.
We waited over thirty minutes for the SADDEST breakfast burrito I’ve ever eaten. The home fries, boring. My breakfast partners sandwich, a floppy boring mess.
If this is what Fairfield County thinks of the ‘best brunch spot’ I think I’ll stay in new Haven.
Instead, do yourself a huge favor and take a minute to drive over to nearby Bloodroot and skip this place altogether. At Bloodroot, the food is REALLY good, same décor idea with a much nicer and friendlier vibe.
I honestly can’t believe what the folks at Harborview are serving and calling ‘brunch’. In retrospect I wish I hadn’t wasted the time eating this food. I’m writing this review as I still sit in the ‘restaurant’, THATS how bad it was. I couldn’t even wait to get home to do it.
