History

Established in 1946.

In 1946, Ambrose Claybar converted the old «Bland» residence into a funeral home. As World War II ended, Lannie Claybar returned from service to join his brother. Lannie and his wife, Marjorie Brown, built the business into Orange’s leading funeral service provider. Brown Claybar joined the company in 1973. The current Orange building was completed in 1973. In 1980, Brown Claybar assumed the leadership of the corporation and purchased the Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home in Bridge City. In 1993, Fuller Funeral Home was purchased and operations merged. In January of 1998, Hillcrest Memorial Gardens and Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery were purchased. In July of 2003, Claybar Funeral Home expanded into Jefferson County purchasing Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home and Floral Shop, and Haven of Rest Cemetery and Crematory. Warren Claybar purchased the company in 2008 from his parents and in May 2010, construction was completed on Haven of Rest Crematory and Cremation Center in Bridge City.
