Brian Head Resort

Great ski resort. Fun to go visit with a large group and probably would be great for a date too. Very, very scenic driving from Vegas to Brian Head and I would love to hike the area in the summer. It was my first time skiing and the only thing that made me nervous was that the ski lifts had no safety bar across the front — maybe this is standard practice for ski resorts but didn’t make me feel the best sitting in their lifts when the wind picked up — especially seeing the little kids in them without adults :/​I work in healthcare (in rehabilitation) so I’m probably overly thoughtful about the safety measures, but honestly, otherwise it’s a nice place. It def. gets my stamp of approval.

Our first time here. Very impressed by the whole experience. Highly recommend ski school and or private lessons. Our 7 year old loved ski school and had a blast on the slopes after that. Our 3 year old did not want anything to do with skiing. Until we did private lessons with an amazing trainer. She had a blast after that as well. We cannot wait to come back!

What I liked: not too crowded, not too far from Vegas (4 hours drive), free wifi @ Navajo lodge, $ 8 night ski, many slopes to enjoy, $ 0 parking, and nice people. What I didn’t like: mountain sickness, bad food, no reception (I’m with sprint), 20% resort fee. Tips & Recommendation: check the weather, you will need 4WD or chain to go up the mountain, if you get locked out, they will help you unlock the car (make sure you tip), don’t wear tight clothes, don’t drink too fast, too much.

Great resort such a short drive from Vegas. We went in Feb. and there was plenty of snow for skiing and snowboarding.
Like that there are two different mountain areas for beginners and more experienced people. Also loved the free shuttle for the area.
Be careful when they get busy though, one mountain might not have your size when renting and you might have to take the shuttle to the other one.

Nice and sunny day! No lift lines and amazing snow! fist time here and will be back for sure! Enjoyed a great end of day meal at the last chair saloon. it has a great patio deck to top off your day!
The views from the runs are amazing, and plenty of runs to fill the day! Ticket prices are a nice perk they will ensure more riding days on our trip and guarantee coming back for another vacation!
We took the shuttle from cedar breaks, but must have missed the last run, we asked at the office if we could call the shuttle to pick us up, but instead the nice gentleman we talked to offered us a ride! He really made our day! We were back at our lodge in 5 min! great place with excellent service! we will be back for sure!

Couldn’t be happier. Great snow. Great day. Great lessons for the kids (ask for Pierre).
And while Pierre did his thing, the adults in our group headed up to 11,000 feet and had a gorgeous day of skiing.

This was my first visit. The day turned out to be fun, but it started off with disappointment at their lack of customer service. I purchased 2 Groupons in 2013 that were expired but the $ 64 I paid for them was still good. I didn’t know what cell reception would be like, so I took a screenshot of the vouchers. The gal at the ticket window was helpful, but her supervisor and manager were not. The supervisor would not accept the screenshots, because she said there was no way of them knowing if I would come back and use the vouchers again, since they don’t have a way to look the vouchers up online. The helpful gal called the manager, who on the phone had her direct me to a laptop inside the lodge to try and pull up the vouchers. The computer that blocked searching outside websites. I was finally able to get enough reception to pull up the vouchers and they accepted them. Being used to skiing bigger mountains that pride themselves on customer service, I was disappointed at how they made it seem like I was a bad guy trying to pull a scam.

Brian Head has some of the best snow in the west without the typical long lift lines as other big resorts. It actually has two separate mountains and lodges. One of them is perfect for beginners with long green runs perfect to learn on rather then typical bunny slopes. It has a bunny slope too though. They have a great kids camp! The other mountain has more the blue and black runs for more experienced skiers. The prices here are also far far cheaper then any other ski resort I have ever been to. Great Place to ski!

This review is for the ski hill. Been here several time. It is what it is, A fairly priced ski hill without long lift lines and a variety of runs. Mostly blue run but there is black and greens for everyone. Lift operators are nice and there is a nice people skiing mostly. It is not vail or aspen, which is fine with me. Fun place for friends and family.

We’ve been coming here for years and it’s still my favorite place to go for a quick trip to the snow! Living in Vegas, LVSSR is convenient, but the price is absolutely ridiculous for 3 lifts and a handful of runs that take a couple of minutes from top to bottom. The drive to Brian Head is just a little bit longer, but definitely worth that extra couple of hours in the car!
The snow is always perfect, lift tickets are amazingly affordable, the lines for the lifts are short, and there are more runs than this beginner can do in one day! Brian Head never disappoints!
Getting There: From Las Vegas, it’s less than a 3 hour drive heading north on the I-​15. Just past Cedar City, you’ll take the Parowan exit and it’s a short drive up the mountain from there.

We have been visiting Brian Head for several years and it only gets better everytime! We used to only come up in the winters, then Tina VanMeter from High Country Reality (who is extremely honest and awesome if your looking for a place to purchase) told us we needed to visit in the summer as well. We did and wow! So many fun activites to do at the resort in the summer as well!
The new owner (Jon) of the resort is so nice! We had a chance to meet him at the New Years Party at Giant Steps Main Lodge this year. He really cares about the future of Brian Head and is very down to earth. This caring approach of the owner, I believe helps set a great example for all the employees who service the guests of this outstanding family focused moutain resort.
MaryAnn in the adminstrative offices is also so awesome! When my family attended the recent ski expo in San Diego, MaryAnn was working the Brian Head booth and gave everyone in the family a huge hug and welcome. This was so cool she remembered us from prior seasons!
If you have not visited Brian Head for a family ski trip, I highly recommend it! Everyone is so friendly, kind and helpful. The moutain is a perfect winter or summer getaway for individuals, couples or families!
Please if you visit, leave your work and home stress behind! Relax and enjoy the friendly family focused atmosphere! The Brian Head Resort vibe is so positive and awesome, please help keep this positive, trusting and awesome vibe alive for years to come.

I can only speak for the tubing they have here and the main facility as we didn’t go on any lifts to go skiing or anything like that. I have been to ski resorts in Tahoe, a tubing place in NorCal and the ski resort on mt charleston and I don’t remember them being as nice as this one. The bathrooms are hands down the nicest and cleanest at a snow resort that I’ve ever been to. Aside from that, the guys that were running the tubing area on 1÷8÷16 between 1pm-​2pm were super friendly and really nice to me and my family. My 4 year old had ice built up on the bottom of his boots and the guy at the top of the sliding area helped him take the ice off, helped him put his glove on when one fell off and would ask my son if he wanted to spin as he went down the slide. How nice! My kids fell while going up the escalator thing because of the ice built up on their boots. They couldn’t stand without slipping and falling and ended up just sitting on the moving conveyor belt (they have signs specifically saying you need to stand) and the guys running the area were really patient with them and didn’t chastise them for not following the rules. Most of the snow places we’ve gone to had immature young adults with foul mouths working and the associates here were very nice, respectful and friendly. My husband was talking to the gentleman at the bottom of the slide and really enjoyed the conversation they had about all things Utah. This is probably the best snow resort we’ve ever been to. We will definitely be back.

I recently tried my hand at skiing for the first time in 30 years. I can’t say enough about how much I loved the experience at the Brian Head Resort! From checking in to renting skis and boots to the lesson — all top notch. Brianna was our instructor and was really great.
I can’t wait to get back up there and go for it again. I’m hooked now.

I want to personally thank Colton of the Brian Head ski patrol. This was our second year family trip to the mountain. First day out and I crash at the end of hard times run and jack up my knee. Colton was «first on scene». His calm presence, professional assessment and understanding help was so appreciated. We were staying at Giant Steps and after returning from the Cedar City ER we received 2 calls from the Brian Head staff to check on me. My family and I are very impressed with the personal customer service these people expressed. If this is «sop» (standard operating procedure) great for them. However, we felt really cared for by perfect strangers doing their job with pride and integrity. Thank you Brian Head staff. We will be back again next year.

Original Review: Dear Owners: please get control of the ski lifts! Since new ownership took over a few years ago the cost of season passes went down and so did customer service! I would rather pay more and receive better service. Your staff is showing preferential treatment to their friends and allowing doubles in the singles line cut everyone else by 4 sets at a time. This has to stop. Bring some organization to the mountain and this will very easily get you guys back on track! Even though things have gone down hill (pun intended) we will and forever be faithful as season pass holders! Just get your act together.

Once again great service at Giant Steps. Thank you Hope and Maryanne, your kind attitudes are the reason our family comes back every Christmas.

I haven’t been to brian head before, so this was a first for me.
I stayed for 3 days in cedar city, just a 30 min drive away. So okay, the price of a full day lift ticket is $ 60 a day (holiday price) so I decided to go with the season pass which was $ 199 with college ID, and lasts until April (end of the season). During the holiday season this pass will get you riding the slopes past their 4:30pm cut off times for half day users long until 9:00pm.
The staff working the slopes were all extremely cool and chill (no pun intended) and the lines for the lifts went by really fast. The slopes weren’t overly crowded considering the holiday season is supposed to be the busiest time of the year.
The snow was a little iced the first day but by day 2 and 3 brian head gained another 3 inches and the powder made carving extremely smooth and made amateurs like myself look like Shaun White. It also made falling down on the park side jumps more cushioned for my delicate behind. And trust me, it was much needed, for the amount of times my butt met the snow.
My only complaint is that the slopes are a bit too short, and there aren’t many options (maybe 3 or 4 runs) compared to the first place I’ve been to (mammoth mountain), but for a Vegas local to travel a fraction of the distance and get more white powder than scar face; I’d say brian head is no brainer.

After along spell, I returned to Brianhead. It’s snow is amung the lightest and fluffiest around and the price cannot be beat. With many other resorts raising prices at astronomical rates, Brianhead has somehow been able to maintain a reasonable ticket price.
The mountain may not be the biggest, but you can certainly have some fun. It has gained 2 new lifts since the last time I was there in 2007 and has upgraded the main Giant Steps lift to an express quad. Personally, I just wander down the mountain in random runs to try and catch as much fresh powder as I can.
My kids learned to ski and snowboard here, so I will always have fond memories. I also love the scenery and the lodge at Giant Steps.
One word of caution. The resort has a base elevation of 9600 feet and is 11 000 (almost) at the summit. The base elevation is the highest in Utah and is higher than most other places in the US. Take time to acclimate (drink lots of water and refrain from alcohol) for the first couple of days. Trust me on this. Even I have an issue on the first day.

The addition of Giant Steps Express quad lift liftchairs is a major improvement over the prior system, this saves you so much time !!! This new system is twice as fast as before and is a real enhancement to this resort. Just another reason why I love Brian Head, Five stars !!!

I come here often since it’s less than a 3 hour drive from Vegas and it’s the 2^nd closest resort to me besides the Las Vegas Ski & Snow Resort. I’m not a fan of LVSSR so I’ll take the longer drive for a better mountain with good snow conditions. The lift tickets and season passes are reasonable compared to the mega ski resorts. This is a good beginner & intermediate mountain since most of the runs are short and it’s not crowded like the Southern CA resorts. Even the employees and the crowd seems nicer and friendlier compared to the CA resorts. They got rid of the slow, old lifts so they are a lot faster than before. Utah really does have incredible snow conditions. I would not mind living in Utah during winter!

Had a bad first experience. We had an awful planner who didn’t check the weather or snow fall. So happy we gave it a second chance because now we have been over three times and it’s been so much fun.
Just make sure you check the weather and snow fall and if all of it checks out, it’s a lot of fun. There’s a lot of lifts and the paths are well kept as long as there’s enough snow fall :)
But don’t try buying beer before noon lol they are not about that: P

Now I’m a believer! With the phrase «Utah the greatest powder on earth!
This is our first stop on our Utah Ski trip. We had a free ticket from the Ski dazzle show in L.A. So on our way to Park City. Why not drop by. It’s our first time here in Brian Head. And I would say it has exceeded our expectations!
As a SoCal resident, we always go to Mammoth, Big bear and Mountain high. And this powdery snow is nothing like in California. I was surprise with temps in the 50’s and the sun in mid afternoon, upper trails remains powdery. This place is definitely worth the trip!

Brianhead! I haven’t been here for about two years but oh what a crazy experience! We were in the middle of a crazy blizzard but got to experience crazy powder. I fell so many times but it was well worth it. The lift tickets and rental prices were very reasonable and a lot of the lifts were open to shred some snow! The bar and restaurant inside the lodge on the other hand lacked customer service and our service wasn’t very good due to the server forgetting our entire order and we had to wait a half an hour just for chicken fingers… Overall, I will be back!

I was happy to see that they have changed their check in and rental process. Everything went much faster today which is the typically busy President’s Day weekend.
They now have multiple check in agents at a new counter. They are also using new technology that really speeds up the rental process. They ask for your height and weight info up stairs and there are no time consuming forms to fill out. When you go downstairs to the rental area they are ready to roll and simply scan the tag you were given.
Also, all the lift line checkers scan your barcoded tag every time you get on a chair so there are no more scammers using fake tags. (If that ever was a problem).
There also seems to be more seating in the lunch area as that little bar was removed and replaced with extra tables.
The fake Starbucks is still here and continues to provide good drinks and friendly service.
All things considered I’m still a fan of BH and will come back again.
Oh yeah, the new high speed quad chair at the Giant Steps lodge /​run was a welcome addition and gets you to the top quickly.

Wow what an amazing memorable time! First time ever skiing or seeing snow period! This place was amazing from start to finish! Rented the snow gear to ski and they took me to the very top of Brian head and said go! Ummm… not so fun (cause I had no lessons and face planted every 5 seconds)!! My suggestion definitely get lessons if it’s you first time. The chair lift tickets are Included in the rentals. There is so much space to cover and its a blast doing it if you can ski. Navajo area was perfect. There was a snow tubing area for he kids which you pay for two hours then you can just leave them and go ski right next to their area. Snow was like powder. And the scenery is b-​a-​n-​a-​n-​a-​s!!! My kids had an absolute blast will definitely be back here for some more fun!

So just wrapped up a daytrip from vegas to here. Its about a 3 hour drive one way. Talk about easy mountain driving for the last part. By the way the place is on mountain standard time so if you want to get here for opening time prepare to hit the road around 5am.
As for the mountain no long lift lines and plenty of intermediate blue runs. Even their main run wasn’t packed like a typical weekend in socal.

Affordable, fast and friendly service, great snow, short lift lines, really, as good as it gets! We had so much fun as beginners skiers. I heard Utah and Colorado have the best snow in the country. I’m not sure about the best since I haven’t been to many ski resorts, but I’d say the snow is pretty soft and fluffy!
The ski rental, being on a Saturday, didn’t have a long line. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Asked you to walk up to the foot measuring device and 5 seconds later brought you a pair of ski boots.
2-​hour beginner’s lesson + ski rentals + unlimited daily lift pass ($ 60 value) = $ 128. Not bad for the weekend. We were going up the lift and skiing down already halfway through the lesson. Also all the instructors and pros were telling us not to use pole as beginners. That way you’ll learn better how to control your movement with your lower body without using the poles.
The cafeteria doesn’t have much to offer though and of course prices are steep for drinks and food. However, they’ve got free, unlimited mountain water!
Full day locker access is $ 8 for small and $ 10 for medium.
Best part is the drive to the mountains. Easy to find, no windy roads, no chains needed, it’s near the beautiful Zion National Park and the Dixie National Forest. Ah, just nice to be there!!!
