Salingers orchard features our own locally grown beautiful fruit. apples, peaches, nectarines, plums and pears are our specialities. everyone loves our delicious fresh pressed, preservative free cider. Our in house bakery makes hot apple cider donuts, scones, muffins, strudels and pies daily. Stop in soon to introduce yourself and say hello!

History

Established in 1901.

Edgar Salinger started a chicken farm in Brewster New York in 1091. Eggs were shipped into NYC in wooden boxes on the train. we still have some old, hand written ledger books from 1918. Edgar’s son, Sigmund, turned the farm over to apples, and today, Sigmunds son, Bruce, grows over twenty varieties of apples, pears, peaches, plums and other fruit. Bruce’s wife, Maureen, manages the bakery that produces scones, muffins, apple cider donuts and pies.

Very surprisingly bad customer service today. My family have been coming here for more than 25 years and spend a fortune the day before thanksgiving stocking up for the year and pies for the holidays. The produce and baked goods are amazing. HOWEVER Today we took 10 minutes to sit with my very old grandmother have a coffee and chat with the kids. The owners wife — maybe stressed with hard work baking 3000 pies for the holidays — came over and asked us to «keep our noise down — we’re having to scream to each other to be heard» FIRSTLY this was utter rubbish. We had a little 3 year old with us and we were laughing but with 4 adults there’s no way we would have let him misbehave in public and SECONDLY just a polite «would you mind being a little quieter, thank you» would have sufficed. We won’t be continuing to spread the word and this has left a bad taste in our mouths about future visits.

They have a large selection of pies which smell amazing. The pumpkin spice muffin was delicious. In addition they have apples, muffins, scones, pumpkins, jams, honey, coffee & veggies. Staff is friendly. There’s a small area outside to sit & enjoy the tasty treats you purchase.

This place is disgusting, don’t EVER eat the donuts. I knew a few people that worked here. They said when they came in at the beginning of the day, they used to pick out all the dead flies out of the oil and still use it. The owners are snobby wealthy people that don’t care about anyone, those ‘homemade’ pies you buy, were bought frozen then just heated in the oven.

I’ve been going to Salingers for 40 years. Great apples, fantastic cider and hot fresh cooked donuts, a great selection of wonderful pies and their honey is especially noteworthy. A family owned stand with no buses in the parking lot. Friendly folks with excellent products and fair prices. If it’s autumn it’s Salingers.

If you can’t drive to briermere farms on the north fork, that a sin onto itself. Their pies are heaven. But if you must stay local, this is the only place for pie. All others are dreck.
They have a couple to taste samples. Then buy one. The apple pecan is great. Raspberry my favorite. Rhubarb. The only place for pies year round. Order early for holiday.
Nice baked goods, apples, preserves and cider. Hot apple cider donuts.
Donuts won’t last the car ride home.

It’s not a «pick your own apples» orchard, more of a farm stand. The fruit pies and bakery items are great. It’s a cute little place to make a quick stop for delicious apple cider donuts and apple cider. We usually go to Outhouse Orchards, pick our apples, and stop by here for a treat. It’s now a tradition for us!

Nice size orchard/​farm market with a modest selection. The quality of goods we got was good. All that being said, it’s a limited attraction with not much else to see or do. Just down the road is Harvest and worth the visit as well.

Second time this year we got an awful pie. They used to be all 100% great, but not any more. Maybe the baker takes off now and then. A few months ago we bought a peach pie that looked good when bought but at home did not seem to be fully cooked. Filling was HARD and bottom crust was mush. The pie sprung a leak in the box after one slice was removed. When I called with my comments I was told it may have once been a frozen pie as peaches are out of season. We were put off had did not return for awhile. Last Thurs we got an apple walnut pie that looked good. Once home we cut the first slice and again the juice run all over the bottom of the pie, causing a much bottom crust. Apples were hard and very tart. Did someone forget the sugar? Pie was thrown away. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Did the pie maker go on vacation or leave the business? Not sure if we will try again.

We were in the area for a hockey game my son had with the local team. A couple of the parents had mentioned Salingers so I stopped in to check it out on our way home from the game.
The private lot had a decent amount of parking. When we arrived there were just about 5 or 6 cars. One was another family from my son’s team, looking to pick up some donuts for the ride back to Long Island.
Inside we found a good selection of pies, jarred items, apples and of course trays of their freshly made donuts. The employees are the working and just let you browse around without being all over you. We grabbed a half dozen warm donuts and an apple pie. Fast, friendly service at the counter.
The donuts were great… lived up to all that we had heard about them. We sat in the parking lot and ate them all before we got back in the road. We’ll definitely be back for more donuts next time we are in the area. Next time I’ll pass on the pie thought, it was just OK at best.

If you are traveling north on 684 from NYC, you should def stop in. I’ve been coming here for many fall seasons and they always have the best cider around. Cider from Salingers you can drink like water it just goes down quickly. Though i would recommend anyone to bring a cooler if you buy cider since it can turn quickly. Their donuts are also great and you’ll be surprised to see that hordes of people come in and buy up all the tray and you have to wait around till the next batch is ready. Their other baked goods are great but I have noticed that their prices have increased over the several years I have been coming here. Their products are great but you have to decide if the quality justifies the price difference.

I love this place. No trip down 684 is complete without a stop at Salinger’s. Apple cider, hot coffee, the best donuts anywhere and beautiful pies. Not partial to the apple – strange since they grow them on the spot – but the berry pies are unbelievable. Also love picking up fresh apples. In the fall they fill the front with beautiful gourds and mums, year round it’s a beautiful and special setting.

My husband and I just moved to NY and wanted to find a place to continue our apple picking tradition. We found Salinger’s through an online search and were excited to go. When we arrived, we discovered it was not You Pick which was a bummer for us– However, Bruce (I believe the owner) explained why they do not do it. and then recommended us to his competition. I think he is a stand up guy, so we ended up buying some donuts to go, went apple picking, and then came back to buy some more of his goods. Must say his donuts and cider are delicious! We will definitely be back.

I was taken here on a kindergarten class trip nearly 40 years ago, and it has been great all this time! I lived in Katonah until I went off to college, and this was part of the annual Fall ritual. If nothing else, get some warm cider and a fresh donut. However, the sights and smells alone are worth the trip. Fresh local honey, pumpkins, desserts and of course the apples.
There was another orchard in the area, Outhouse Orchards, but it is under new management (and has a new name) and is closed during off-​season. Expect big crowds in October.

This is a local orchard, though not a pick your own type. We go for the fine apples (in season), pies, and fresh made donuts.
They also have a bit of nice produce. Open all year, though the apples are only in the later summer, Fall, and Winter.
Halloween Season, some other homes along the road capitalize on the traffic going by for barn and pumpkin sales.
Easy on/​off from 684, but as you get off the highway and are going along hardscrabble road, the Salinger’s sign is dominated by a sign for another local orchard, Outhouse. You turn left for Salingers, straight for Outhouse.
(Outhouse is a pick your own place, also minutes off 684, with massive crowds and dozens of buses coming in during the picking season. I actually try to stay away from Outhouse then and even planted a few of our own trees to avoid the Outhouse circus. During that season, Salingers is still nice.)

Was there off season yet they offer so many great items like donuts, maple syrup, baked goods, flower, veggies, honey… all local items. And they all tasts so great!
The only downside was the peeps working here didn’t seem to like «city folks» wondering around the store so long, and kinda got feeling that we weren’t so welcomed here /​as long as your money is green type reaction. Hmm?

Salinger’s always has great goods. Apples, pumpkins, donuts, pies. It’s everything I’d expect from an orchard. If you are traveling on i-​684 and have a bit of free time, it’s worth taking the trip out to Salinger’s — just be careful driving around the backroads, it’s pretty narrow!

When the warm days of summer blend into the cool nights of fall, the picking of fresh, delicious NY State apples is not far behind. We are blessed in our little corner of the world to have a proliferation of options on where to buy and/​or pick these Edenic delights!
One such place to offer the bounty of the season is Salinger’s Orchard. It has seen many an apple picking season and I would confidently guess that those who enjoyed Salinger’s as a child are now bringing their own families to enjoy their offerings. Right now Macouns and Empires are in season, but I am going to hold out for those tart, crisp Granny Smiths (lower in sugar, too!) and bake a nice apple tart.
And if you are in the market for local honey in a multitude of flavors, colors and sizes, you are going to find it here. How ’bout them apples? A sweet year for sure! :)))
