Oskar Blues Brewery

Their beer selection is a little limited as good breweries go, but the quality is second to none. We really enjoyed the light crowd and laid back atmosphere. Great place to sample beers in three sizes or get a flight of the main five. Worth the drive out of Asheville.

Great beer and lots of flavors to choose from, but their canning machine to take home beer was broken and there was no food truck to serve us a late lunch. To be fair, it was a Monday holiday day, so the free boiled peanuts held us over until we could have more substantial sustinance.

It’s a little out in the sticks, and looks a bit like a UPS warehouse, but it’s worth a visit for sure. Quite a few options on tap were not familiar to me, appearing to be «only at the brewery» specials. I had the Gingerbread Fidy/​Chub, a blend of Ten Fidy and Old Chub with with gingerbread flavors. Wow.
There aren’t a lot of nearby food options, but, never fear, they have their own truck on site that serves unique sandwich and burger options.
The thing I did miss until I was leaving was the free peanuts in the bin by the door, so check that out if you go.

My sister is a huge fan of Dale’s Pale Ale. I have tried it a few times, but it wasn’t until hanging out with our family and having a couple with her every other week or so that I really began to appreciate it.
I went from being an Oskar Blues is pretty alright to a Damn Oskar Blues has got it going on.
This past weekend I had an excuse to head out to Brevard and actually head to the Oskar Blues brewery, and wow. WOW!
This is a HUGE brewing operation, absolutely massive. The tasting room and outdoor patio are a courtesy that Oskar Blues is providing while they are churning out Noah’s flood levels of beer every hour. That being said it’s an extremely pleasant courtesy.
Walking up the steps to the tasting room you’ll be greeted by not one but two giant vats of peanuts. Regular roasted and salted and spicy cajun. Nice. Scoop yourself a can full and mosey on up to the bar and celebrate beer! Your Oskar Blues favorites are here, Dale’s, Mama’s, G’Knight, Blue Dream, but there’s also a whole slew of brews made in small batches that are worth popping your top (can reference?) over. I had the pleasure of trying some of the remaining Octoberfest beer and I’m sad that it will be disappearing into the ether soon, and that Oskar Blues is so far away.
I’m fairly certain that Oskar Blues knows what a challenge it is to get to their brewery, and they offer a few conveniences to soften this. They have their own food truck, as you’re isolated on their massive property. They also operate a shuttle from Downtown Asheville to the Brevard location on Saturdays if you can devote 4 hours of your schedule to making the pilgrimage, which now that I think about it… sounds pretty awesome.
Oskar Blues’ brewery is definitely a brewery first, and a tourist destination second. If you’re passionate about filling out your Asheville area brewery punch card, it’s a must visit.

Our past two visits to the mountains have included a Sunday morning hike at DuPont State Forest followed by a trip to Oskar Blues.
The beer selection is always awesome and delicious. On this most recent visit we split a flight and were huge fans of the Pumpkin Chub and Gingerbread Fidy/​Chub. We also ate too many free peanuts, you can grab a can from the barrel and dispose of your shells in the bucket on the bar. Last years favorite was the Egg Nog Imperial Stout, YUMS.
I love the entrance and the steps leading up to the tasting room, the brewery equipment is huge and they have a nice sized patio area.
One of my favorite parts about this place is singing it’s not a can, it’s not a growler, it’s a CROWLER. So, what is a crowler? When a can and a growler have a baby, they have a crowler. And, you can pick up a few beers that are only available at Oskar Blues while visiting the brewery!

Oskar Blues has some pretty awesome beers and an awesome beer-​drinking space here. This was my first beer stop on a day of hitting multiple breweries, and this one was my favorite.
As with most of the breweries, you can get a reasonably-​priced flight here to try all of their standard beers. It is a sight to behold as well, as they use a bar to pull down all of the taps at once for a quick pour on the beer. You can also opt for pints on those or to try some of their specialty beers. When we went, they had the Death by Coconut on tap, which was a total delight (a mildly sweet, coconut-​flavored stout — YUMMO!!). My favorite of their standard beers was Old Chub (a deliciously smooth Scotch Ale), which is luckily readily available in grocery stores in this area. The G’Knight (a red ale) was decent as well. If you are a fan of IPAs and more hoppy beers, their other offerings will probably delight you a little more than they did me.
Not only do they have some tables and space at the bar in their upstairs taproom, they have a big patio in front with a good amount of seating. They also have their own food truck there on site (we did not eat anything, but it sure smelled good). It is definitely a good place to chill out for a few hours and throw back some beers.
Oh yes, I will definitely be back.

Cool space and awesome that they we get some brewery only releases here in NC. They got some bomb ass equipment that will put our smaller breweries to shame. You get the feeling like you are on a farm and that they want you to sit outside. The tap room inside is small so this place may get crowded. Otherwise keep doing what you do!

I should have read Michael N.‘s review before I went here because I got lost on the same dead end street he did. The real problem is their address is incorrect. The real address is 342 Mountain Industrial Dr, Brevard, NC 28 712. The Old Henderson Hwy address has you turning on Cherry Street. Just look for the Oskar Blues Sign and an industrial park and turn there. Inside the industrial park just follow the road until you see the Oskar Blues trucks.
There is nothing unique about this building. It’s a warehouse style. There’s a huge outdoor patio and they have their own food truck.
The taproom is actually upstairs. There’s a half circle bar and seating around the area. There is a merchandise area on the outside wall. The beer list is on individual chalkboards. They have 3 pour sizes which is a nice feature and I like their 10oz glasses.
The staff was great here and very helpful. The problem is I am not a big fan of Oskar Blues beer. I found one out all of their beers that I enjoyed when I visited and it was a special beer and kicked while I was there.
But since I’ve never been here before, it was still worth checking out the brewery.

The Unilocal GPS directions first took us to someone’s house on a dead end street. I wonder how many people a day turn around in their driveway. After some Googling and rerouting we arrived. The complex is pretty large with a covered outdoor space. There was a live band that added some decent atmosphere.
I finally got to visit the infamous Tasty Weasel Taproom — head through the gateway of empty cans and up the stairs. The taproom is part gift shop, part bar, part seating. Grab an empty beer can and get some peanuts from the barrel. Beers come in three sizes: sample, 10 oz and 16 oz. Oskar Blues sells their beers at most major grocery stores, so probably have tried at least one of their beers before. The IPA is good and so is the Pinner Throwback IPA — both are smooth and not overly bitter or hoppy. Mama’s Little Yella Pils is a crowd pleaser.
The «beer side» of my experience was pretty positive, but the facility side was kind of «Blech» and rude. The tables were all very dirty — people were not bussing their own tables and for the hour I was there, no staff members were cleaning tables either. It was pretty filthy and gross — food and drink garbage were piling up and attracting flies. We grabbed a bench and pulled it over towards the grass to avoid the mess. My other complaint is the «employees only» section of the outdoor space that is fenced off. There’s corn hole, wagons, a sit n spin and various other toys. My kids (4 and 5) went over there to play and were basically shooed away and told they couldn’t be over there by staff members (even though staff children were playing). Yes, their employees probably work tough hours and deserve some perks, but you are also running a business and shouldn’t alienate your patrons by being elitist/​snobby or being mean to the kids of people who can choose to buy or not buy your beer; reminds me of segregation — just saying. The next time I’m selecting beer at the grocery store, I’ll probably remember this experience and choose a different brand.

Looks like I’m with the minority here, didn’t have a bad experience, but just overall meh. I’ve been to a lot of breweries and taprooms all over and this was simply average at best, kinda disappointed because I do like some of their beers and love supporting craft beer. Nothing on tap you can’t get in stores, except they did have 5 different flavors of the Ten Fiddy. Surprisingly non social vibe too, come here with your own group. I would visit this again if I lived close by, but it’s not a destination brewery, hit Sierra Nevada only 20 minutes up the road for that. Highland and French Broad I would recommend over Oskar as well.

Huge space here slotted to distribute all over the east coast. Guided tours available, reminded me a bit of Rogue on the inside with the elevated tasting room. Decent amount of house beers on tap, but only two were special editions; everything else was their normal line up. Staff was awesome– very friendly. Had cans for sale to go and drink on premise, some of them were new to me but the quality was suspect. Overall, if you are on a group tour and want to learn about the brewing process, this is a fun stop. But if you are after new beers and really good beers, I’d skip.

Beer = AWESOME! I opted to take the free shuttle from downtown Asheville to Oskar Blues in Brevard, which was between 45 mins to an hour trip with a little bit of traffic and construction on the way.
We were supposed to leave at 4:00 PM and leave to return at 8:00 PM. The shuttle was almost 45 minutes late with no real explanation given other than «some issues came up». This was totally eating into our beer time. We all boarded the trolley style bus. When pulling away from the front of the Aloft hotel, the driver inadvertently left the side doors open and promptly clothes-​lined two street signs. One of the dudes in the back alerted him to this spectacle and he finally closed them.
Maybe this was due to running behind schedule… or maybe this is how this dude always drives but he was FLYING! We got brake checked a few times and it sent most of us catapulting forward because there were no seat-​belts or restraints and the benches are really slick. There were several moments of being pretty scared during this ride.
Other than the trip to get there, the experience at Oskar Blues was great. I really loved the flight they offered. They only offer a flight that comes with 7 pre-​determined beers. The standouts of the flight were the Pilsner, Pinner IPA, and the Old Chub Scotch Ale. I also tried a special coconut stout that was stellar! Oskar Blues had a food truck called ChuBurger out front. I got to try some beer cheese fries with bacon and green onion. They really hit the spot. There was a band playing and cornhole available outside. This place was a beer drinker’s dream.
Yes, the shuttle was FREE… but that doesn’t mean it didn’t have to be safe and comfortable for the passengers. This experience would have been 4 stars if not for the sketch transportation. I would rather pay for transportation for it to be a better experience.

OMG such a fun place! I’m not a huge beer drinker but I had the Pilsner and I really liked it. Everyone else really liked their drinks and their flights as well.
The view from the brewery is gorgeous and very mountainesque. ;)
They also have a cool theme going on with all their beer necklaces hanging everywhere and a guy playing music on Friday night. And a food truck. Def check it out.

Even though it’s not waling distance from downtown, the Oskar Blues Brewery is a must for any beer-lover’s visit to Brevard. It’s a quick, 5-​minute drive from downtown Brevard to the brewery, and once you’re there, it’s impossible not to enjoy the scene.
There’s a large covered deck out back, complete with lots of picnic tables, a food truck, and beer can décor. We chose to head upstairs to the bar, a lofted little space full of people, beer signs, and their apparel and gear for sale.
Go for the tasting flight, (7 samples!), or simply make your own of fewer samples — they offer several different size pours of any beer, including 4 and 10oz.
As always, I tend to love a pilsner most. Try their Mama’s Little Yella Pilsner, and don’t forget to snag a free sticker on the way out!

This location is even better than their Colorado spot!
The fella and I stopped in after a morning hike at DuPont; it was only about a 5 – 10 minute drive from the Hooker Falls parking lot. We got there around 1:00 on a Saturday, and it was pretty slow… at first. No one was outside, so we headed inside and up the stairs to the tap room. There were more special beers on tap than at the Colorado location, and there were quite a few we hadn’t even heard of. They also had free stickers and tons of merchandise/​beers for purchase.
The flights are pretty massive — 4 oz. pours of 7 beers — so the fella stuck with a few 10 oz. pours and a 16 oz. The bartenders were attentive, and I liked that the tap room was air conditioned. There were also free peanuts if you needed a snack.
It started to get crowded in the tap room, so we ventured outside. There were toys for the kids, and many people had shown up with their dogs. The Chubwagon food truck got there around 1:30 and started serving around 2:15. It smelled deeeelicious, but we were on our way out by then.
Awesome, laid-​back atmosphere with plenty of delicious standards and special concoctions for a dirt cheap price!

This Is such a nice little brewery. It looks kind of like the place from Drinking Buddies. It’s set up in a very non-​corporate, fun, chill atmosphere. Heck, we almost missed the entrance to the taproom.
They have a flight of (7) 4oz beers for $ 9 which I think is a great value If you want to try their main beers for a low price. And what they use to pour the flight samples all at once is delightful.
I would definitively recommended stopping by after visiting the Pisgah forest

Picture this, you decide to venture out to Oskar Blues and take the trolley pub because that sounds like the safest and easiest way to go with your friends. But little do you realize that Oskar Blues doesn’t have food and drinking beer for a few hours isn’t the same as eating food… oh and you’re starving! What do you do? Why, order from the Chuburger truck parked outside of Oskar Blues of course!
Seriously though, despite it being the only food option on-​site, Chuburger was delicious! I was actually sad to finish my burger so quickly and thankfully had fries to console me. I had their Berk Burger which is made up of pork, bacon, grilled onion and bleu cheese butter. Now, at the time I was very hesitant to order this but I really didn’t want beef and this seemed like a decent option, but after just one bite I continued to exclaim to everyone that I had ordered the best burger off their menu – and to be fair, in my mind I thought this was true. It was so delicious, moist and just plain finger-​lickin’ good. My friends ordered a few different options and had similar reactions so I’m just thinking you really can’t go wrong with any of their burgers.
The man running the truck was super nice and turned out these burger quicker than I expected. The fries were good as well but clearly I think the burgers are the real MVP here.
Bottom line: Definitely check out Chuburger while you’re at Oskar Blues!

What a treat to be in the middle of nowhere and find a well known brewery. I’m not a yellow pills or dales pale ale fan at all but am glad that it has put em on the map.
What I appreciated most about this brewery was its history — started off as a restaurant and turned into a brew pub and now an anti corporate brewery.
What I didn’t love about the brewery was the prices. A can of the Chaka was $ 7! Or you could get a 4 pack in their fridge for $ 14. They thought it was a slight oversight so maybe at the time someone reads this it’s been updated.
What you might also appreciate are the funny notes left between employees on the whiskey barrels in the warehouse. You’ll have to go see yourself.
