One call and I was done! This was one of the easiest experience I had with insurance. I didn’t have insurance for the longest time because I had a company car so I didn’t know where to start. A friend recommended me and I could have been happier. I was looking for a basic policy for a weekend car I purchased. I shopped online, did the name your price websites, 15 min didn’t save me 15% or more lol. He was able to get a great rate! Super shady.
I was buying a car for the first time in several years, so needed to buy insurance to take the car off the lot. Dealer referred me to Slavsky, and the broker I spoke with told me what he was offering was the best deal I would find, quoted me a price, telling me it would just be $ 15 higher for this initial payment, then go down to the quoted price.
When I asked about canceling he said it could be done any time and I would get a pro-​rated refund. He had me over a barrel, so I went with it. I got the bill for the second month and the cost went up, not down as he had promised.
Sure enough, 10 minutes searching online found me the same coverage for $ 70 less per month, so I bought that insurance and called the insurance company that Slavsky arranged to cancel.
After using two weeks of the month I had paid for, as well as the extra fee I had paid, and acknowledging the pro-​rated cost, they told me I still owed them $ 57 just to cancel because I had to pay a year’s worth of fees that they split up across 12 payments and $ 50 to cancel, none of which the guy at Slavsky told me when I asked about canceling.
The insurance agency supervisor said he should have told me. They also said that the reason my cost went up instead of down was that after I had gotten off the phone, he had emailed them to change the policy to a lower deductible plan, which is what he said I was getting at the lower promised cost. The insurance company even said what he did was dubious and disreputable, and waived the cancelation fee on those grounds, so it isn’t just me who thinks his actions were unethical.
