Club Fitness

To be clear, this gym is worth exactly $ 10 a month. Any more and it’s a rip off.
The worst part it’s by far the cleanliness. The locker rooms are barely maintained, the showers are disgusting, with mold, soap scum, hair, trash, and other filth. Not to mention the shower head on one of them doesn’t work. Of the 3-​sinks, one hasn’t worked in months. The sinks are also disgusting. The cleaning crew dis a quick wipe maybe once a day, so don’t go barefoot.
The staff it’s nice, but you can tell they aren’t invested and don’t care.
The equipment isn’t old but it is definitely not new, and it is kept in average condition. There are limited free weights with several missing weights and always a wait to use them. Equipment doesn’t break too often, but when it does, giving it takes a long time.
It’s a small gym, but lots of cardio equipment. The floors and machines don’t look they they get wiped down often.
Summary: 24 Hour Fitness or Golds would crush this place if they opened near by.

READ THE FINE PRINT!!! I have never felt so totally taken advantage of in my life! When I told these people the DATE I WAS MOVING OUT OF TOWN, they filled that in as the time of my payment for annual renewal. If you want to cancel membership (which I wanted to do) you must send a CERTIFIED mail letter, RETURN RECEIPT requested, and then they get to bill you for like $ 60 more (fees, more monthly dues, other inexplicable nonsense…) It wasn’t all that great a gym to begin with; I joined for convenience. Don’t bother– its totally not worth the hassle, aggravation and enhanced costs.

Equipment dated and ALWAYS INOPERABLE. Cleanliness is definitely not top priority either. I usually hit this location between workouts for a quick touch up or cardio session; I dread it.
I’ll bypass this sub-​par location and drive a little further for my comfort and cardio.

Good location and plenty of parking around. Open ²⁴⁄₇; staff and trainers have working hours though. Most of the machines are well maintained.
The gym is a little small, and peak hours it could be extremely packed. If you want to do weight-​lifting you end up in a line. There are fewer people late at night but the bathroom stinks. There is a wired smell in the locker room too.

This gym is really well kept. The guy who cleans it every morning really does an excellent job. And the workout equipment is in really great condition. You’ll probably be waiting for a free-​weight, even at 1 am, there’s a lot of people surrounding them.
My first experience here though really left a bad first impression though. The free 7 day pass has a lot of strings attached. It’s not as simple as going in and showing around the place and letting you work out. It involves filling out sheets so they find out a lot about you, they tell you there are only certain hours you can come in, and then they push and push to get you to sign a contract.
Then, even if you don’t want to see a personal trainer, well. Sorry bud, they’re gonna give you one anyway. And what’s he/​she gonna do? Try to sell, sell, sell. I’ve been a salesman and I know how important commission is, but I goto the gym to relax and do my workout and get out. I feel like each time I’m talking to the staff it’s like I’m walking by a vendor in the mall trying to sell me something, so I make absolute certain to avoid the staffed hours.
I had my friend come in from two hours out of town to visit me. We went to the gym with me and were immediately taken to the corner where they were forced to fill out a ton of paperwork (makes sense) and sign up for the gym. She explained how she lived two hours away, but they were still gonna push. We left shortly after.
Bottom line is this: It’s a cheap but decent gym, it’s great during unstaffed hours, the personal trainers are knowledgable, and it’s clean. This is all fairly standard stuff though. The excellent customer service that really makes a company shine? This company is sorely lacking.

Part of a medium sized chain of clubs in St Louis and Eastern Illinois (near St. Louis). This location has a near-​complete fitness circuit (newer Life Fitness machines), 2 dozen or so Life Fitness and Precor bikes, treadmills and elliptical machines. Bikes are traditional and recumbent; also, a couple stair step machines. No classes at this location; there are locker rooms with private showers. Smoothie bar.
Pros:
–no classes means less traffic to negotiate during peak periods
–newer equipment is nicer than some CF locales
–private showers are welcome
–fewer newbies being run through ridiculous training by trainers
Cons:
–showers/​locker rooms are often littered, filthy, in need of repair
–would live to have a lat pull down machine not just a cable system
–some cardio needs some maintenance work
–during peak, good luck getting on a cardio machine!

I had to leave this gym for financial reasons (taxes going up, so I have to cut the budget somewhere, right?). but I’m going to update my review before I leave and upgrade the place to a number four star. If you look on Unilocal,gyms have complaints all over the place, even the expensive ones. All in all, this gym has got to be one of the best of the lot. It’s one of the neatest gems and has one of the cleanest environments. Some of the staff are quite friendly. There are always a couple of machines that are out, but it’s not broken/​ripped machine every third or fourth one like a lot of gymnasiums. Considering the broad mix of people they get in there, there don’t seem to be any hassles. The personal trainers, yes, like most places, don’t go out of their way to be friendly or helpful, I suppose because they’re getting paid differently. But they seem to be doing a good job with their clients and don’t elbow the other customers out of the way too badly.
Yes they could do a little work on getting all the sinks functioning, and making the hot water a more reliable. Somebody who knows what they’re doing on the personal televisions, should reprogram them so that they get all the channels and get good reception. I wish they had a leg-​curl machine. Other than that, I think this is a good bet for your workout resolutions.

My girlfriend and I started going here in December 2013. We had moved into the area that summer and were looking to shed some of the pre-​holiday pounds (Thanksgiving is a cruel mistress) and get in before the post-​holiday rush. We have both been pretty happy with this location and the membership as a whole. My girlfriend especially likes being able to go to different locations for different classes. It seems each has their own schedule, so it was pretty easy to find one that works for her.
They offer a free «jumping off» training session which seems like its really meant to sell the personal training. I took the bait and paid for the next three classes (four total). I was really happy with the trainer (Eric — huge beard) and the exercises he had shown me, but I felt I could do enough on my own to further my goals so the first four were all I’ve done.
There is a lot of open space for floor activities, but that space is at a premium come 5 o’clock during the week, as do the cardio machines, though I’ve seen that at other gyms I’ve been to. No classes that I know of; there’s not enough room for classes I guess. All-​in-​all, I’d recommend this location.

Membership is fine until you go to cancel. They tell you call corp office — we did — we cancelled, said the next payment to come out would be the last. WRONG — a month and a half later they are still charging us the membership fee. The lady at their corporate office is a B! TCH!!! Very rude. Nope you didn’t cancel — oh yeah you have to mail in a cancellation. Refused to give us a credit and told we would still be billed another month.
I had to call the corporate office one other time during the membership and the same young punk was very rude and would NOT tell me who the manager was, or put me through to her boss. Said she was the boss!!!
Good luck — horrible customer service. Oh yeah dirty gyms!

I am also surprised by the good reviews for this location. I have been a member for 2 years, and lately the crowds are so intense, that the wait for one of the cardio pieces of equipment has been 15 – 20 minutes. And the management’s answers around the situation were disappointing (why don’t you do squats for 30 minutes? why don’t you get on the floor and do some workout?). And the quality of the environment has deteriorated… smells bad, unclean, problems with non-​working equipment (a treadmill has been down for weeks). I’ve asked for my membership to be cancelled. but I also purchased a training package from DFM… their person on site said «this is out of my control… we try to meet them halfway, but I can’t help it it’s crowded»…not very service oriented or supportive of customers. Do not recommend this facility.

I had a terrible experience with the customer service side of Club Fitness. I was in St. Louis for 2 months this summer for my job, and I joined for those dates. The gym stipulates when you join that should you like to cancel, you need to do so online and 30 days before you are charged again. I knew when I would be leaving, so I put this in my calendar, and made sure to cancel on time. I followed through with this and double-​checked on my last day by going up to the counter, asking them to make sure my account was cancelled, and they said everything looked good.
I got back to my home in Illinois, and have been charged every month since leaving. I called customer service, completely confused as to why I have been charged. They claim that they have no recollection of my cancellation online, and therefore will not reimburse me. Additionally, I asked right then and there to cancel my account immediately, they said, «You must cancel online only, we can’t do it over the phone.» Which probably means I will be charged again, since I need to give 30 days notice. UNBELIEVABLE. The confirmation email from my original cancellation no longer exists (why would it, because the gym confirmed it with me on my last day at the gym) so I have no proof that I cancelled. It is their word against mine.
I had a nice time working out at the gym, but I have NEVER had to deal with such bad customer service in my life. I am out a lot of money, and it was never my fault. I say to you: stay away!!!

This Club Fitness is literally 2 min away from home and i choose to go to the other Club Fitness locations instead. Despite the fact that this place is new and clean and fancy looking, it lacks a lot of the important stuff.
This particular gym is small, very small, Tiny people! There is no room to do personal workouts. So if you are looking for a room with a mirrored wall like most gyms have so that you can get a bit of privacy, you will not find that here.
It does have a good amount of treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines but when it comes to the machine workouts on the floor there is seriously like 20 machines that is it. Probably not even that many, i could be exaggerating. There are not many free weights, and when you do get your hands on some you will be touching elbows with the person next to you.
I like my elbow room and air space when I work out.
I do like that this is a 24 hour locations, The people here are also very friendly and nice. The parking is interesting since you park in a parking garage and walk over. Still When it comes down to the important things in a gym this particular gym lacks.
I wish I could love it since I wouldn’t have to waste gas driving to another gym but unfortunately that is not the case. Oh well.

I’m such a gym hopper.
A few years ago, I joined the Brentwood YMCA. It was nice, but it was usually crowded, and I HATED having to sign up for the machines in 30 minute blocks. Seriously?
So I had to scrap my membership there after about a year.
Next up? Wellbridge. This is where I went through my «I just got a new job and OMG I’ve never made this much money in my life so SURE I’ll join this fancy schmancy Clayton gym, biiiiitch!» phase.
And then I decided that owning a house was more important than belonging to a snazzy gym. Oh, and their treadmills were usually always taken. Boo.
Scrapped.
Next up? The Heights. I thought this would be a great fit. Cheap gym membership (20 bucks? SOLD), nice facility, super close to my house. Winning!
Except it wasn’t. Their selection of classes sucked (spin class at 10am on a weekday? Yeah, let me leave my full time job and get right on that…), and they charged extra to take specialty classes. Lame.

Finally, I decided to check out Club Fitness. It was close to my house (sweet), it was new (super sweet), and membership was cheap.
But the kicker? For something like $ 20 a month, I could not only visit THIS Club Fitness, but I could visit any other Club Fitness in the area. AND many of the locations (including the Brentwood one) are 24 hours! Oh, and while the Brentwood location doesn’t offer classes, many locations do. And it’s included in your membership fee.
Nothing makes me more excited than the possibility of working out at 3am if the urge strikes me. I’m being completely serious.
SOLD.
So far, I really dig this gym. The hours can’t be beat, the equipment is new, I don’t have to sign up to use the treadmill or anything else, and it’s rarely crowded, even at 6pm, when I usually decide to mosey on over after work.
tl;dr: this gym rocks my little socks off.

Here lately I’m finding myself straying away from this CF location due to:
1. Heat. It’s a gym, please set the thermostat correctly. The moment I walk in it’s steamy warm in there, by the time I’m working out it’s like hades in there.
2. Smell. Again, I understand it’s a gym but that doesn’t mean the facility and especially the ladies locker room needs to smell like a sour armpit.
3. Wait for machines. Yes, after work on a weekday is a busy time and this is a small location, but the wait for a machine is annoying and the fact that other members have cut me in line while waiting and especially that trainers have walked in front of me to get a machine for one of their trainees, without so much as an apology, is annoying.
Don’t get me started on the fact that so many members here have no decency to clean/​wipe down machines when they’re done with them. I wish this rule was enforced.

I am amazed at the positive reviews for this location. Sadly, visiting this gym has led to nothing but frustration on my part.
Each and every time I go, one of the trainers has to come talk to me and tell me how awful I am for 1) not training with them and 2) not being in the gym every time they are. My explanations (going to the Creve Couer location for classes, working out at home, etc.) always seem to fall short and I often leave feeling embarrassed and regret ever going. I was a personal trainer prior to moving to St. Louis and I would never, ever use guilt to manipulate people into working out with me.
Also, the trainers seem to go through people’s records of how often they are at the gym because when I haven’t been in for a week (this has happened twice), they will call me and tell me I haven’t been working out and that I should schedule a session with them. This may work for some, but it pisses me off.
I do enjoy the cardio equipment and the weight machines at this location, however I cannot stand that there is not really an area where you can throw a mat down and do some yoga or free-​weights or ball work. You can grab a ball but you are often competing for space with trainers and it’s difficult to work alongside them when you can tell they are annoyed that you’re using their equipment. Plus, I really enjoy having a mirror and there are none near the open floor-​space area.
If you are a woman who likes being harassed when you work out, this place is for you. Otherwise, I suggest you ladies try somewhere else.

I’ve been to many Club Fitness locations (Hampton Village, Manchester, Hanley/​Musick Memorial, Kingshighway, etc.) because I get bored with doing the same thing each time and the same scenery. That’s one reason I chose Club Fitness was the variety of locations throughout St. Louis. No matter where I am, there’s always a Club Fitness nearby, and there are so many branches within just a few miles of my house that I can always keep it interesting.
Each branch is a little different, and some are smaller than others, but this one I find to be the newest, cleanest and have the biggest variety of machines and equipment. Hampton Village is a close second as its new renovations have made it enormous and greatly increased the machinery and equipment offered, and it’s a little less crowded than the Brentwood location. There’s a big variety of people there, people who are muscly body-​builder types, people who just like to be fit, and people who are just starting on their fitness journey. I feel like it’s a non-​judgmental environment for all types of exercisers.
Another reason I chose to review this branch in particular is because of something that happened to me there this week. My husband is a soldier who is currently deployed to Afghanistan and is coming home for R&R for only two weeks. I asked what I needed to do to make sure he had a gym to go to. Now, I would’ve been happy to pay, but any other gym probably would’ve found 100 ways to charge me for a two-​week guest pass. But I was speaking with the District Manager (had no idea at the time who he was) and he was so generous he gave us a free two-​week pass. Not only did I feel that he appreciated my husband’s service, but I also appreciated that he valued my membership at the club enough to do that for us. Thank you for that positive experience! As long as I am in St. Louis, I will be a Club Fitness customer.

Although this club fitness location is the smallest I have been to, I like it best.
The cardio equipment is brand new and there is enough of it. The only preferred machine of mine that is missing is the Cybex arc trainer, but I am over it. The weight training equipment is not as abundant as other more roomy locations, but they have the basics and most, if not all, are the nice, new Life Fitness brand. They recently moved some things around and provided a nice large floor space area for stretching and ab work. I am a happy camper!
This club fitness is also the most clean and tidy as well, and the personal training and desk staff are all very nice and welcoming. The only thing holding them back from a 5 star rating is that they do not have classes or a child care area (for the parents out there), and I don’t like having to park in a garage for safety reasons particularly at night. Other than that, I am a fan!

This club fitness is much better than the one in Rock Hill. The equipment seems newer, better maintained, the hours are better, and it has a smoothie bar within it’s premises.
I find myself driving the extra distance to visit this location often.

I’ve been going to Club Fitness Locations for years and this is by far the best location I’ve ever been to. The trainers are awesome, the facilitates are very nice and well kept, and also the crowd is generally not your typical muscle head/​jock/​douchers who frequent some of the other Club Fitness locations. My only complaint would be that there is only one full set of dumbells, but it has never really been an issue for me. I also recommend that if you’re interested in training that you train with Jami. He’ll kick your butt!

I’ve only been coming here a few weeks now, but I really like it here. I like that it’s kind of «hidden» — you can’t see it from Hanley, and you can’t see it from the freeway, so unless you know it’s there, you probably wouldn’t think there’s a gym there — which makes it a lot less crowded.
This is definitely a gym for «regular people» — I don’t see lots of meat heads grunting out their sets, nor do I see primadonnas standing around flirting, or guys trying to pick up the ladies — none of that here. It’s just regular people, doing their thing. And, all the cardio machines have TV’s attached to them — which is super exciting for me, since I don’t have cable at home — and can catch up on HGTV while working out.
The women’s locker room doesn’t smell like spoiled milk, thankfully — and there are separate shower «rooms» with doors, if you want to shower there — much better than the shower rooms I’ve seen in the past, with a flimsy curtain and old saggy ladies walking around showing off their bush.
Solid, cheap gym, if you live in the area.
