Brenham House

Susan and Jimmy are the best. My wife and I have stayed at bed and breakfasts all over the state. This one is our favorite by a long shot. Susan and Jimmy go out of their way to make sure you have a pleasant stay and a good time visiting the local area. They are up on all the latest events and happy to recommend the best eateries, wineries, and shops. Each room has a TV and DVD player, and they have a free lending library of good DVD movies. They also have satellite TV in the rooms. They have a library full of books. The rooms have a fridge in them now, which is very convenient. The beds are comfy and the neighborhood is quiet.
Susan and Jimmy used to own and operate a bakery in Houston, and their cooking shows it. Best food of any bed and breakfast we’ve ever stayed at. By far our favorite place to run off to on weekends. Can’t recommend them enough.

What a find! Picturesque little house in downtown Brenham. James and Susan are lovely hosts– I came in late with no reservation and they were more than willing to accommodate me– they even let me stick around when my plans adjusted themselves and I needed a place to wait for a couple of hours. The house was immaculate. Private bathrooms, inviting yards and garden with a chorus of owls during the evening and songbirds in the morning. They kept the house nice and cool which provided for a very comfortable sleep. There were people in all of the rooms, but I couldn’t hear a peep through the walls. I spent a lot of time on the front porch complete with rocking chairs and a swing. Breakfast was well made and served in a group setting, which at first made me a little nervous but the atmosphere here created a very comfortable setting. Not only will I come back, but I will make trips just to stay here.

We stayed at the Brenham House for the second time this week after dropping our kids off at camp. It’s becoming our tradition to stay at this half way place on our drive back to Austin. Our stay was just as wonderful as last year. As a bonus, we had the place to ourselves again, but the service was still top notch. James met us upon our arrival (the owners live off property). We had the wonderful suite off the front entrance. The queen bed had been upgraded with a king and it was very comfy. Breakfast was amazing. fruit, eggs, potatoes & a berry cream and cake dessert. It’s obvious the proprietors take the breakfast part of B&B seriously. They do an outstanding job on all fronts… the accommodations, cleanliness, quaintness, breakfast, service, and hospitality. I’m sure we’ll be back next year.

This was exactly what we needed after a stressful business meeting in Bellville. Our names were written on the chalk board, home made cookies, chocolates and fancy water and all the tea you could want was waiting for us.
The house is super cute, once you are inside it’s like a little time warp oasis. Susan and James were so nice and helpful with their suggestions and just making us feel right at home.
We stayed in «Antique Rose Room” — I have a habit of trying to avoid rooms that sound too grandmotherly but this room was awesome. The bed was high up with cute wooden stairs. It was decorated with Susan’s grandmothers old furniture– but she had amazing taste. Plus the bathroom was just fantastic and they seem to think of everything. Dark makeup towels, bath salts, a refinished beautiful claw foot tub, a nightlight that goes on at nite so you don’t stub your toes in an unfamiliar place.
Apparently the Brenham house used to be a German Lutheran Church in it’s former day but it has been a B&B for a number of years. I won’t tell you too much about the history because after Susan and James feed you a gourmet complimentary 3 course breakfast they will come and sit with you at the table and share about themselves and the history. Susan and James 4 years ago ran a very popular Bakery in Houston and the food will be a testament to their previous, current and future success.
Make sure and have a cup of tea and sit out on the back porch and do bring your wine after going tasting, they have bottle openers and glasses waiting for you.
Brenham is a charming town and we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Brenham House bed and breakfast recently for a few days while we were traveling back from the coast. We easily made arrangements with James over the phone prior to our trip.
On our arrival, James was awaiting us to help us check in. He made us feel more than comfortable and had chilled water and fresh brownies made for us. He was extremely friendly and spent a lot of time showing us around the house as well as helping us find resources about things to do in the area. After an introduction, we were left to our room, the Garden Dream room, where we had an excellent two nights.
The room itself was nicely appointed and decorated. The décor was consistent with early 20^th century décor and had a lot of antiques. The bed was a comfortable queen size bed. The en suite bathroom was nicely appointed and had some of the original décor as well.
As mentioned in the other review, the breakfast really makes the trip worth it. Each was a three course meal which started with fruit, had a course of meat/​eggs/​potatoes, and finished with a sweet. The fruit was always tasty, the egg dishes included a delicious cheese and ham soufflé, and the two sweet courses (apple turnover the first day and french toast the next) were outstanding. After eating breakfast, we mostly didn’t have to eat until the evening.
While the breakfast is the highlight of the B&B, the company is probably the second best. James and Susan are really nice and we also had a really nice couple with us for breakfast one day. It was nice to chat with the other guests and learn a little bit about them. Also, James and Susan had a good knowledge of the area and were able to suggest good things to do, such as local wineries.
Other small things are good as well: free wireless internet, a bin of games and DVDs, snacks every day from 3 – 5 pm. It’s also within walking distance of downtown Brenham, although given that it is Texas you’ll mostly be driving.
Overall, I would highly recommend Brenham House for anyone traveling through the area.

We arrived at The Brenham House later than we expected and the hosts not only waited up for us but were so very cordial and welcoming. Our room was not only beautiful, but also extremely comfortable. The bed had memory foam and we were spoiled with a down comforter. Little surprises like the chocolate candy waiting for us near the bed and bottled water on the bedside tables made us feel quite special. Breakfast was a three-​course tasty delight including fruit sorbet, scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and fresh pancakes with blueberries and pecans. Orange juice and fresh, delicious coffee rounded out the meal. Our hosts treated us like good friends and enjoyed telling us about the history of the house and places of interest in their quaint town of Brenham. We give it our highest recommendation.
