The Wayside Inn

We stay at The Wayside Inn at least once a year. We love this place. It is very affordable. They have great breakfast during the ski season. Very nice and friendly place.

Best inn I’ve ever stayed at. And probably better than any hotel.
Why? Because of its cozy simplicity.
If you’re looking for a place to lay your head at night while you spend your waking hours exporing Summit County, consider staying here. (On the other hand, if you want a place to lounge about in while you’re enjoying snow-​covered views from your window, don’t stay here.)
It’s not a fancy five-​star hotel, but it was exactly what I needed for my long weekend in Colorado. Of all the choices I had, this was the cheapest hotel/​inn in Summit County that gave me the basics of what I needed: a cozy bed and a bathroom. And it was CLEAN.
The room was very basic and somewhat mountain lodg-​y: a table and two chairs, a nightstand with a lamp, a TV on a dresser (that I never used), and a bed. The bed? Ohhhhh… best bed I’ve ever slept in! I’m a huge fan of soft and cozy beds and this one felt like a giant pillow with the fluffy pillows and comforter. I sank into the sheets every night.
The bathroom layout felt a bit dorm-​ish with the small square shower stall next to the door, but otherwise, it was still warm and inviting. No complaints here. (Athough I am a thin person, someone slightly larger or taller might have a problem with the small shower and somewhat narrow space between the toilet and wall… just sayin’.)
No, there wasn’t a hair dryer or coffee make or microwave or fridge included. However, you could ask for a hair dryer in the front office (which I did) or have breakfast there (which I didn’t get to try). As I said — very basic… but all I needed! There’s also a hotel hot tub available, but since I was traveling alone, I didn’t feel the need to use it (besides I hopped into my friend’s hot tub while I was in town).
Great location — between Frisco and Breckenridge, not too far off the main road.
At the time of my stay (July 2015), the management told me that they weren’t sure how much longer they’d be around (apparently the owners were thinking of selling). If this place is still open when you’re in town, give it a try. I do hope they’re still here.

Nice little inn. Staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. Rooms were clean. Location wasn’t bad and the price in good. Only downside was the small room size and tiny shower.

Come on folks. This place is not 4+ stars. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, but I could hear every footstep, voice, and Unilocal of dogs, within a couple rooms and the bathroom was tiny. By tiny I, at 6′ 5″, could not sit on the toilet without my knees hitting the wall. None of the basics you expect when traveling: fridge, microwave, hairdryer, shampoo… No temperature control in the room. No a/​c. Beds too soft, comforters were nice.
You can’t beat the price though for staying near Breckenridge.

Booked this hotel for octoberfest 2015. Can’t beat the price as it was relatively cheap for being a major weekend. Still close to downtown. Room was clean and had a mountain cabin feel which was cozy. Room was a tad run down and old but had no issues. Staff was very accommodating to our late check out. Thanks Wayside!

This little inn is very clean, quaint, and homey. The rooms feel refurbished, the bed was very comfortable, the floor was warm in the bathroom, and the whole set up was great. Best of all the served biscuits and gravy, homemade for breakfast. The breakfast was all so delicious. They were very friendly. I’d come back time and time again.

What a great find in Breckenridge! 10 minutes away from the lifts, the staff was extremely nice and helpful, clean good sized rooms… I could go on but you get the point. Would recommend this place to anyone! And the complimentary breakfast was great as well :-)

From the check out time to the helping me find a very nice tow (JD) who helped me even more by picking up my car and bringing it to the hotel WITHOUT CHARGE. Not the greatest weekend get away between my car breaking down ect, but you guys sure made it easier to deal with!!! Thank you!

Its a small mountain motel, all the rooms on one level, laid out in a row. Very wood cabin-​y, mountain feel to it, as you’d expect.
My girlfriend and I spent a weekend up here while attending Startup Weekend at nearby Colorado Mountain College. Our stay was uneventful, and everything went as planned. The sheets were clean, the shower (though small) had hot water, bunch of TV channels, WiFi, and they cleaned the room each day.
It was August, and the room was on the order of $ 85 /​night.
It was all I expected. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here in March for a short ski weekend.
Great location (short drive from Breckenridge) and ample parking.
The room was small, but perfectly formed. Cute log cabin décor and a decent heater,
Check in stayed open for us even though our flight was delayed.
I think its great value for Breckenridge, and for skiers would recommend.

Was very happy to have the experience to stay here. Price was right, complementary breakfast, great heat, only 2.5 miles from d-​town Breckenridge. There was Free WIFI as well. Not to mention the hot was most definitely welcomed to my girlfriend and I. After a long day of snowshoeing and driving it was great to have a comfortable to call home for the evening. If you are originally from the east coast (NY), the owners are from Rensselaer County and the rooms have pictures from Ski Resorts from Vermont. Cool.

This place is great. It has great vibes and you kinda get a communal-​feel.
We booked a room for Saturday night, just three days before, and it was only like $ 80. AND, yes, it’s ski season. That’s pretty awesome.
It is a little bit away from the Village, but not that far at all. Like three miles maybe?
I noticed another viewer mentioned this place does not have Wi-​Fi — They do. I did not get to try to it out because I didn’t bring my laptop after reading they did not have it, but sure enough, a Wi-​Fi password was posted on the flat screen.
We hot-​tubbed — It was around 11PM. No one else was out there, likely due to the snow all around us and the fact that it was a really cold weekend. Still, cool feature.
The Wayside offers breakfast in the morning. The front desk told us there would be sausage, biscuits, gravy, etc., but when we rolled in around 8:45, none of this was to be seen. I’m pretty sure we missed it. We did still enjoy bagels, fruit, cereal, toast, boiled eggs, etc., so we were still happy. Takeaway: Go to breakfast early if you are there to fully encompass the Wayside breakfast experience.
More on breakfast, this is where you get the communal feel. Everyone sits in the lobby in a cozy little living room area with a fireplace. The food is served in an attached room. Everyone I saw was around my age, 25−35ish. We chatted with a musician who had been put up at the Wayside by the venue he had performed at the night before. Small talk, and he sent us home with some of his tunes.
Basic mountain inn with Wi-​Fi, a hot tub, free breakfast and great vibes. We’ll be back.

Great spot to stay over night! Wouldn’t recommend for a whole week (skiing). No heaters/​ac or thermostat in the room. No fridge or microwave. Though fabulously comfy beds, slept really well. We stayed for one night. TV is a flat screen. Great place if you are hiking and don’t want to car camp!

No bells or whistles but its a nice place that gets the job done. I talked to the owner and he said that they invested in beds, hot water and tvs. Which were all evident. Beds were great. Hot water was instant. Tvs were newer flat screens. I would definitely stay there again.
Also if you are a repeat customer they will give you a 10% discount.

Everything you need at a great price. If your looking for a place to crash at after a good day of boarding this is it. Great hot tub, clean room, close to Breck and Keystone.

Cheapest motel near Breckenridge. There are no frills about this place and it is very basic, but the staff is friendly and you really feel like part of their family. There is a bus stop nearby if you don’t want to have to drive into town and deal with parking, but it is quite a walk away. Walking in the snow makes it even less fun.
I lucked out in finding this place because the other hotels were starting to sell out – this was right before the Christmas season – and they were also three times the price. I am not on vacation to have an expensive hotel, although it would be nice. I was really there to wake up early and hit the mountain, so there wasn’t much time spent in the room except to sleep. Our heater was working, which was good.
We – my girlfriend and I – had two separate rooms and one of the TV’s didn’t have a good picture but then my girlfriend figured out how to make it tolerable by adjusting the settings.

Let me be the first to admit, I judged the Wayside Inn novel by its cover. My first thought as we pulled up was, «Oh, boy.» — It reminded me of all the creepy motels you see in middleofnowhere California. Luckily, I was wrong.
Wayside had all the basics covered and even threw in a few surprises; water ran hot, beds were comfortable, and the most pleasant surprise of all was the continental breakfast in the morning which included hard-​boiled eggs, cereals, a variety of toast, jams and peanut butter, (homemade?) pastries, oatmeal, and coffee/​tea. Not bad at all!
The only negative I can think of is a lack of WiFi, but that’s being really picky. We were all extremely thankful to have beds to sleep in after escaping a potential night on the floor (with 15+ crammed into a room rated for 3, haha. The joys of skiing with friends!).

Stayed here this weekend after getting rained out camping and were too far from Denver to drive back that evening. We called around 7pm on a Friday night and they had a room for a good price ($ 79, which is hard to find in Breck). Room was really cute, log-​style wooden bed frame with a COMFY mattress. They’ve got a hot tub outside, but we didn’t come prepared as we were planning on camping :)
When we checked out in the morning, they said they do deals for returning customers. We will definitely be back if we need a place to stay.
*Side note– our price was during summer, which is considered «off-​season» in ski-​towns, so prices may be more in winter. Either way– it was the best deal we found and definitely worth it!
