Macallans Public House

I’m so glad we found this great neighborhood Irish pub! It’s got a great vibe with live music, friendly wait staff and great fish and chips.

First being at this bar. We came here with family and calin the bartender was one of the best we have been with. Made the drinks from what everyone liked, not what you wanted. The drinks were amazing
Calin is a kick ass bartender, great experience with him.

With live music that continues until 8:00 pm, a fantastic Happy Hour that lasts until 6:00 pm, and delicious appetizers, Macallans is a great place to spend a Sunday evening. We’ve visited half a dozen times and have never been disappointed. If you’re here for Happy Hour, take note of the menu section labeled «Selected Appetizers» — Whisky Glaze Wings and the Fish and Chips Bites are both excellent and a bargain at only $ 6.99.

Cool little spot. Dropped in on a Sunday night, and they had live music! Bartender was good. Didn’t try the food… but I will be back for sure.

Great bar. I had an Old Fashion, it was delicious. It’s cool that they used a round ice cube in the center of the glass. It gives it a unique twist. The beers are awesome, I had a sampler from light to dark.
Food:
We had the fish and chips, and the wings. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Will definitely be back.

The wife and I had a casual bar dinner here last night. It’s our first time back after their initial opening, things have improved. The largest assembled display of whiskey, scotch and bourbon products in Orange County and surrounding areas. Our bartender was a real delight, she made suggestions for variations on an Old Fashioned and custom made our drinks. Very much appreciated.
The dinner menu is somewhat restrictive to a small list of appetizer and sandwiches with sprinkling of traditional English fare items. I had the hamburger and my wife, the Ruben sandwich. The hamburger was an upscale and wonderful emulation of an In/​Out burger, but much, much better. Good value, excellent taste, all good. I’m not a big fan of In/​Out, but this burger was very good. It seemed like the thick beef patty was a high grade, restaurant grade processed patty. I would prefer a kitchen made, hand formed beef patty grilled or flattop. That is the ONLY improvement I can suggest for their burger. Excellent house cut fries with a wonderful seasoning comes with the burger.
The wife had the Ruben, probably the best I’ve ever had. The chef came out (more on him) and checked on us. He explained his nine day process of preparing the beef, excellent. The meat was not overly salty, lean, perfect portion size, wonderful setup and bread. Large enough to share, came with fries.
Digressing, we started with the artichoke cheese dip. Very good, perfect portion size for two. I would increase the artichoke and roasted pimento to even out the cheese flavor, great concept.
The chef is a Cordon Bleu graduate, formally trained. I would say management is smothering this Chef’s ability and skills. I understand Macallans is not a steakhouse, BUT your menu is boring, very boring, very very boring. You have the ability to expand your menu substantially, keep the British food items, but allow your chef to use his skills. I’m not talking off the hook French fare that no one likes, but build on what has been started. I WOULD add a ribeye steak, expand a few more quality sandwiches (not New York mile high deli types) and chicken dishes and allow daily chef specials. Otherwise, this chef is going to become bored out of his mind and leave. You have the corner market on your bar items, but the house can do SO much more to provide your customers more quality dining choices. There are wayyyyy too many other dining options in Brea that have more options. You can be competitive with a significant tweak on the menu, don’t touch the bar, you done good. Don’t let a manager think he/​she knows better than their customers, otherwise you will run out of first/​second/​third time customers who get bored with the menu and don’t return for six months, just like the wife and I did with this establishment.

The whiskey selection is amazing! And oh my -! El Cubano is so tender, so flavorful! Try it!

My fiancé and I come into Macallan’s at least once a month. Macallan’s reminds me of the bar in How I met your mother because it’s a cool laid back bar to hang out and grab a drink. The place is always clean and the staff is very nice and welcoming. They have a rotating craft beers available, a lot of signature cocktails, and tons of whiskey and scotch. Personally, I am a beer girl so I usually get one of their craft beers on tap. We just recently ordered the animal style poutine from the seasonal section on the menu. It was very tasty and different. Instead of using fries the used potato wedges and then topped them off with corned beef, their Macallan’s sauce, cheese, and a fried egg (my favorite). Very yummy!

Happy hour the sliders were amazing! Pretzel bun was perfect $ 6.99 for two, flavor on point! Fish & chips also $ 6.99 for the HH portion again perfectly made! I’ll be back & check out the whiskey flights!

Great Shepards pie-​nice and thick. The bread pudding was very good too but the wiakey sauce could be thicker. Live music was a nice touch.

Love this place! Recommend salted rosemary pretzels with chili cheddar beer sauce, fish & chips, and Reuben sandwich. Be sure pretzel is fresh out of oven, otherwise it’s not good (ask them to replace it with fresh). Nice chill ambiance, live Irish music on Friday & Saturday nights, great service by Sarah & Marina, and great food. Cheddar chili beer sauce and seasoned potatoes side are delicious! Also Belching Beaver porter is great. Will come again next time we’re in Brea.

The service was far bellow average I am so offended by the lack of attention we were given. An hour into the meal, my drink is dry, my stomach is growling, and I don’t even remember what my waiter looks like. I will admit, the green fluorescent tile behind the impressive arrangement of liquor adds a nice pop of color and reminds me of Christmas and simple times. That being said, I did not come here for décor. I came here for a nice meal and some drinks. Overall unsatisfactory experience

We came for a friend’s birthday on a Saturday night around 6pm.
The food, drinks, and service were GREAT! If you’re a whiskey fan, stop by. You won’t be disappointed. If you’re not a drinker, the food is great as well :)

Back tonight bumping around DT Brea. Some of the food has changed a bit, for the better.
Ambiance — Same, still a cool place to hang out. Beautiful inside.
Food — The appetizer sliders were KILLER. Great beef flavor the minute you bite into the slider. I’ve had a lot of burgers in my lifetime and this is the flavor of beef I look for. Spot on. I believe these were $ 6.99 for 2 sliders. The mac ‘n cheese bites with bacon were also delicious, but rich. Who cares! You’re probably drinking so it works!
Service — At the bar was very good.
Great experience here tonight. Kudos to the chef!

Would recommend the Macallan’s Burger. It’s huge so you can share with 2 people at least.

Irish pub and Macallan, it doesn’t get better than that! Their list of bourbon, scotch and whiskey is huge! I liked it they list everything in regions, and informations about the Scotch regions in the back, very educational, good thinking!
I don’t usually drink whiskey, scotch or bourbon, in fact I don’t like cocktails made with those too much. But hubby loves Macallan, so we wanted to give this place a try, and I have always loved the décor and ambiance of Irish pubs! The bar was packed, not too many dining ppl though, cause it was late I guess. A very friendly server still walked us to the bar area and handed us menus, it was very nice of him.
I tried a bourbon cocktail, with honey and lime or lemon I can’t remember, it was actually pretty good, very tasty with little bourbon flavor, I was very surprised. Hubby had Macallan 18 on rocks. We took time to sip on our drinks, it was very relaxing on a Friday night.
We didn’t stay long, but really enjoyed our bar time. I have to say this is a great addition to downtown Brea, we would LOVE to come back for dinner and more whiskey drinks soon!
Ps. They have happy hour everyday and late night happy hour from Monday — Friday. Good drink and food menus.

Let me start by saying I have very mixed feelings about this place. A party of 6 wanted to go out and watch the game so of course, first pick was Yard House. The wait was going to be about an hour and well, at 8PM, the lot of us were starving. (Metaphorically.) We telephoned Macallan’s and lucky us – there was a table for 6 available immediately. We asked them to hold the table and scurried over to Downtown Brea.
Well, when we got there, another server had accidentally given away our table. The hostess offered to seat us at some couches without televisions. She apologized for the mixup and sat us down while we waited for another table for eating to open up. We had been sitting for nearly an hour when I decided I wouldn’t have any of it, and asked them to send us an appetizer for making us wait when we wanted to order food. (This was a couch table seating like Starbucks with seating really for 4 so 6 of us were obviously unable to eat there.) The manager came out, apologized profusely to us, sent us three appetizers of our choice. (Photo’d above). Great service on apologizing for their mistake. This part was great. Not only that, the food was great. The appetizers were so good we were delightfully excited for the main courses we would order a few short minutes later.
Sadly, our excitement fizzled as soon as the first taste of our entrees hit our mouths. I had ordered the Shepherd’s Pie, my server’s recommendation, and honestly it probably was better than other entrees on the menu, but I was so disappointed I didn’t even finish my food. The flavors were bland and I guess I would say «flat». A meaty, traditional dish, had turned into a $ 15.00 potato pie. And sour at that. I decided they must have put sour cream in my mash potatoes. I was so disappointed, this was worse than the Shepherd’s Pie at Dillon’s. A catastrophe of food, really. Ugh. I am blogging about this four days later and I still think it was gross.
Overall I would say this place is great if you’re a Whiskey drinker and you just want some drinking food. If you’re here to eat dinner, I would most definitely pass. Appetizers in this order: Wings, Poutine, then the Goat Cheese, depending on your fancy. Great service though, hands down one of the best, especially for a bar.

Came here after work and made it just in time for happy hour. Weird how the food was on happy hour but not the beers…
Maybe because I got the ipa and not something else? The grapefruit ipa is to dieeeee for! So goood! I also tired the idiot but the grapefruit is definite my favorite.
Ordered the sliders since the bartender recommended them along with the pulled pork nachos.
Also tired the bacon Mac and cheese that’s on the regular menu and omg… so cheesey! It’s really strong and I only like cheese with wine. so im not the best judge with it. Don’t get me wrong it was delicious! I ate it with some of the bare chips that didn’t have any good good on it.

Decent prices on neat scotch and for great selection. Other than that, I will not be back.
Service was terrible. Was told if you don’t eat, you can’t sit in the restaurant. No biggie. Yet, when being sat outside in the patio, no server came out. Even the table next to us was starting to get annoyed. Took 10 minutes. C’mon, we are only getting drinks right? Shouldn’t take that long. We stillll ordered some food just cause we felt like munching on something. Hummus Platter. such a disappointment. My friend ordered their burger and was disgusted.
I have been here on two separate occasions and thought that service was terrible. It is not a place I would like to grab a drink with Friends. So sad, considering I had high hopes for a place like this in Brea. Nevermind.
