Quirk Preowned

Recently purchased a used car. Decent mileage and well maintained. While the prices may be higher then some dealerships, they were no pressure sales. The salesman I dealt with was great, and it turns out the car had a remote start which was a decent plus.
More details:
I had been looking for a used car for quite some time. Everything in the Quincy area that I found used were either junk cars or overpriced cars that were polished up. Overall I’d say quirks used cars were well maintained and decent in price.
I had initially gone by to see what cars they had in my price range. While they did not have anything for my specific range in price they did point me in the direction of several other local places that may have been able to help. After some more days of searching I was not able to find the exact car I wanted for my price range so I was willing to expand my search criteria.
Because the salesman that I had dealt with here was helpful in finding alternatives and was completely no pressure I had decided to go back after finding a Toyota that had peaked my interest on their online inventory.
Took it out for a test drive and loved it but didn’t love the price. After going back and forth for a bit we found a decent middle ground and I bought it on the spot with some of their extended warranty options.
Great experience with them so far and I will be recommending others to check it out.

We visited Quirk Saturday and had a really great experience. The salesman and the sales manager were straightforward and honest. At no point did we feel pressured and really felt like they wanted to help us. We made a great car deal. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to buy or sell a care.

Just Went to Quirk to sell my beloved 2011 Mazda 3 and these guys were great. I went to two other dealerships who low-​balled me and Quirk offered me a really fair price. They were nice, quick, accommodating and easy to work with. Honesty I’m surprised by all the bad reviews. I hope my car goes to a good home :-)

Buying a car can be extremely stressful, but the huge selection of great vehicles and the friendly & knowledgable staff made our car buying experience a great one. This is a great place to buy!

I have always been very nice and understanding when this dealership take HOURS to work on my car. They will drive you over to the South Shore Plaza, (which is about the only nice thing I can say about them), but how long can you really entertain yourself at the mall?! I love to shop, but I was once there from 10 AM to 5 PM waiting for my car to be finished. Fortunately, I’m a teacher, and usually bring my car in during the summer or during vacations, so I have the time to wait around for hours upon hours. I’m not sure what people with other jobs do… I figured they just got a loaner for the day but…
Recently, my Jetta had a few issues pop up all at once– my tire indicator light came on but my tires all had the right air pressure, and a light bulb went out but no indicator light came on for that. I am not on vacation at the moment, so I figured I would be able to drop it off in the morning and get a loaner car for the day, as I am under warranty. But they wouldn’t give me one! I paid a lot of money for my brand new Jetta SEL, I don’t think it is too much to ask to get a loaner for a day when I know it is going to take the dealership hours to fix it! They offered to take me to the train station, but I teach piano lessons after school and drive to my students’ houses, so I need my car :-(
On a different note– one time, they threw in new windshield wipers for me because I waited SEVEN hours for my car and they felt bad, and then they called me a few weeks later and asked me for my credit card number so they could charge me for the windshield wipers!!! hahaha. I told them they threw them in for free because of how long I had waited, and they said that was fine, but even still… I can’t believe they called me about that!!!
Also, this dealership doesn’t have a car wash. Even my old Honda dealership had a car wash!
They are the worst.

I’ve never Unilocaled about a car dealership before… but after the awful service I received, I just had to let people know. It seems like my experience mirrors everyone else’s.
I have been test driving Jeeps for a couple of weeks now, I found one on their website, and I went in for a test drive. I should seen the red flags when they locked the keys in the car and needed to get somebody to try to unlock it. Twenty minutes later I was test driving it. During the test drive the salesman was actually nice. It wasn’t until we where sitting down when the games started. Actually looking to charge me more than the car was listed on their website! I told him thanks, but I wasn’t interested and I went to leave. On my way out the door, the sales manager tried to stop me to see if everything was ok. I told him that I just wanted the price and I’m going to shop around… he then starts arguing that it was rude of me to walk away from him and his sales guy while they where speaking and how I wasted their time. I told him that it was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. It really was. He was so aggressive and gross for no reason.
I’m sorry… I’m spending $ 27k on a car. You should be greeting me with open arms. Not some prick attitude. I wish I read these reviews before going. I now understand why my friends where telling me not to go there!
Do yourself a favor. Go ANYWHERE else. Quirk is awful.

I wish I could give 0 stars. The salesmen and the sales manager are the rudest people on the planet. I unfortunately bought a car here. I went back the next day to get an extra key, user manual and license plate holder since the paperwork was completed right at closing and my car was missing these items that I was promised to get for free the next morning. Of course the salesman that I bought the car from was not there so, I went to speak with the sales manager. The sales manager told me that I had to pay $ 200 for an extra key even though the salesman told me that he would give me a spare key for free. (Afterall I did just spend $ 21,000) The sales manager was very rude and gave me a huge attitude. Very unprofessional. Do not ever buy a car from here. They rip you off. There’s a reason why every review on here is 1 star because… THEY SUCK!

THE BOTTOM LINE: Do NOT come here to shop for a car. They are error-​prone, pushy, and impatient. I was treated disrespectfully by their salespeople even before a sale happened, so I can only imagine what actually having a car with them must be like.
BACKGROUND: I was in the market for a specific car: a 2006 Volkswagen GTI, that I found on
. They had recently gotten this car.
BEFORE THE VISIT: The next morning, the salespeople, as all good sales people do followed up on the interest I showed on the internet. The first call was from the internet manager who would not give me any more information about the car ie the price, pictures, features, carfax, etc. I then got another phone call from a guy called Noah. Apparently, he didn’t know their internet manager had called me earlier. After some talking Noah finally said that he would send me pictures to help make sure that the car i was checking out was the one I was looking for. I got the pictures, but I never got the carfax or the list price. Noah said that they were very willing to negotiate, so I said, «why the hell not» and decided to go check the place out. Google reviews seemed to give this place good reviews, while Unilocal didn’t.
I ended up checking out Quirk with a friend who was from the area.
AT QUIRK: I got to the place around 3PM. Instead of being connected to the salespersons I had been talking to on the phone, I was shoved off to an older, balding guy called PJ. It seemed like we would get along since he had been in the Air Force and I’m about to enter the Army. I would like to think that there is some sort of bond between servicemen. But, boy was I wrong.
The car that I saw on their lot was okay. I had a pretty extensive check list/​inspection list and he initially seemed to be pretty understanding about that. If you’re a serious buyer, you do your homework about a car thats been used.
1. You want to make sure that you actually like the car.
2. You also want to make sure the car is safe and well maintained.
When I began to coldstart the car, PJ started to push me and immediately asked me annoyingly, «Do you like the car?» It was bothersome knowing that I had already told him I didn’t need to sold on the car itself, but I wanted to know whether he could beat the price of another dealer and wanted to do my due diligence with their specific car.
We took the car for a spin (test drive). Their cars are so compacted together on their sales lot that it was difficult to take it out of the parking lot.
PJ kept on spouting about Quirk’s Pre-​owned checks (190-​point check), as if they that made it almost Volkswagen certified. The highest speed we got was 50 miles per hour on the freeway near the location. He said that they did not have the insurance to go on the highway. RED FLAG. If you can’t take a car on the highway, you don’t want to buy the car.
I mentioned to PJ that I saw the car tires were pretty worn, so he took me outside and gave me a lecture on how to test car tires. Despite that 190 or whatever point check, those tires were still very worn down.
NEGOTIATION TABLE: We eventually went inside to negotiate the possible sale. I knew I wasn’t going to buy the car that day, but I wanted to see if I could get a better price than the other dealership I was considering. He showed me the Autocheck, reading it to me line by line like I was retarded. I tried flipping the page to signal to him that I knew how to read, but he snapped at me telling me that I was the one being rude.
I kept on pressing him about the maintenance records for the car, and he kept on replying he couldn’t get the records for the car. RED FLAG. He said that it was impossible to get the records from the previous owners. RED FLAG.
As any car owner knows, maintenance is a big factor in your overall cost in buying a car. Even if I got this car for a decent price, if the major maintenance work (that is usually done at 50,000 miles) was not done it would be very expensive for me in the long run.
In any case, he kept on saying that he couldn’t get the records because the previous owners, Indian green card owners, had left the country. I tried to work with him to ask if you could Skype or email those owners to get those records. He kept on giving me an absolute, «NO!» as if this were a deal breaker. PJ even tried mocking me by asking whether I could produce my medical records and immunization. I told him I could. (Most medical records are online now). He looked at his boss and just kept going on.
Clearly the maintenance records were not worth their trouble, so we went to talk about the price. I began the price negotiation by quoting the Edmunds True Market Value price and he interrupted me and said, «we’re done here». My friend and I left.
The moral of the story? STAY AWAY FROM QUIRK.
Epilogue: They called me again about the car. I automatically hung up.

If I could give this dealership negative stars I would.
DO NOT GO TO QUIRK!!! This dealership is ESPECIALLY bad. PJ McGinnis was my salesman. AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE. He literally LIED to me. Lied about the car, the contract, the warranty and when we went back to speak to him about the situation he threw a tantrum like a child — complete with stomping feet and name calling. He’s a f@cking joke.
The dealership (and especially PJ) are dishonest, slimeballs out to take your money and sell you broken property. They will do anything to get the sale.

Bait and Switch
I saw a car listed on
for a really low price at Quirk Preowned in Braintree, it was about 4−5K less than it should have been. I had emailed them previously about another car so I had a contact there, who I emailed about this car. His details were sketchy, not really knowing anything about the car, he did say he’s been getting a ton of emails on this and that it would be first come first serve on the vehicle. He also said he thought he priced it too low but would honor his price. I emailed him a couple times more asking about features, he kept giving me conflicting information. His email said the car had leather but when I called him he said it had cloth. I was fine with cloth but wanted a moonroof so I asked him to physically go to the car and verify that it had one and also verify it was a non-​smoking vehicle. He called me back and verified that it had leather and a moonroof and that he took a few big whiffs in the car and couldn’t smell smoke. I told him I’d be right down.
When we hung up I still wasn’t comfortable that I had the right information so I called back again just to verify «this car is black, has cloth seats, a moonroof, non-​smoking and this is the price». He agreed to everything so I told him I was on my way. I arrived in 15 minutes and we then walked out to the lot (in the rain) to find the car. As we were looking he kept asking me if I was interested in the other cars they had on the lot, I said I was only interested in the car I came to see. We went back into the office and there was a private discussion between him and another sales guy and they finally came back and said that the car must have been picked up by service, and that «service does this all the time». I was infuriated and said «I just talked to you 15 minutes ago and you said it was here». He then asked if I was interested in any other cars on the lot, I told him I was all set and left fuming.
I was so frustrated leaving I called my contact to find out where exactly this car was right now and who the contact was in the service department. He told me it was at Quirk Nissan service and the contact with Lee. I called Quirk Nissan service asked for Lee and was told Lee left the company 2 years ago. I asked if the car was there and he said no. I called the salesperson back and told him what I had just found out, he was incredibly defensive said «you know what, forget it, forget it, this is ridiculous, you called my service department, this is ridiculous». I called him on his bait advertising and he hung up on me.
I then contacted Mr. Quirk’s office and spoke to his secretary. I explained the story to her and she said «we do not engage in illegal activity» then transferred me to the general manager for Quirk Preowned. I explained the situation to him and although he was apologetic, I got the feeling that he wasn’t surprised and that this was kind of a normal tactic. He said «it’s a rainy day, nobody’s coming in, he was probably just trying to get some people in the door». My jaw was on the floor during the entire conversation. This guy was extremely defensive and seemed like he was trying to cover up for the salesperson. I kept pursuing the car, acting like I wanted to see it, he left an out for himself saying «we always check out our cars when they come in to see if they’re any good, if this one checks out I’ll have someone bring it to your house so you can test drive it». I got the feeling that this one wouldn’t check out.
After we hung up I searched google for «quirk bait and switch» and discovered that several other people have fallen victim to this unethical (illegal??) sales tactic. Stay away!

I had a really positive experience here. I was looking for a specific type of car that wasn’t on their lot (an American made station wagon) They called me about 2 weeks after my visit and told me they found a car for me that fit the bill. I bought the car but it had problems right away (within a week) They tried very hard to resolve the mechanical problems more than just a few times, and when it returned again they were very good about getting me into another car that I am really happy with. This is the third car I’ve purchased from them! (all 3 American made wagons. very hard to find)…I’d go back in a heartbeat and will send my kids there too.
I know they ask me how much I want to spend too instead of posting prices, but I’ve found that it helps me and them if they can work out the financial options. Sometimes I want to spend less but I get a better car if I let them figure out the payments I can work with. They seem to know more about that end of the business than I do.

I ended up getting the car I wanted with MORE options (dual sunroof) and the extended warranty it only had a LITTLE more mileage on it then the Traverse they showed me. And I paid way less than what Quirk wanted for their Traverse. hmmm…

This place doesn’t even deserve a star. I went here with my girlfriend whom had purchased her car here, as well as her sister. So thinking that I’d get someone reasonable to talk to, I decided to give it a shot. First of all when you come here, do not expect to get prices on the vehicles without actually sitting down with the salesperson. Their website doesn’t even list prices which is particularly frustrating.
I came into the dealership prepared with what the prices should be (based on their website information like mileage, etc) using NADA (what the banks use), Edmunds, and Kelly Blue Book pricing. I really liked the Chrysler 300 despite Chrysler’s less than acceptable maintenance history. The car checked in around the 15 – 17 suggested dealer value.
So I get here, speak to a salesperson named Lenny about test driving it, and we went on a test drive. After the test drive, I was confident to make the purchase and went inside to talk cost. It seemed too good to be true, that they would work with me and what I wanted to pay each month (were I to finance it through them). Without actually taking any input from me, the machine magically printed out the monthly price, and total finance cost. This cost was $ 28,000 (almost double what the car is worth) and the car itself was $ 24,000 (so $ 4k for financing).
I told the salesperson (Lenny) that this can’t be right, that the car wasn’t worth that much. He started yelling at me, clearly freaking out. This is the point I should have left, but I didn’t. He was pissed at me for even mentioning NADA, KBB, and Edmunds, saying that no one uses them, and why do I need other people’s opinions. It’s my buying experience, I get what I want. That they would never buy a car worth more than what it should be, that they own their own auction house and buy the cars from themselves cheap. That I was wrong, and I told him, «If I’m wrong about the cars value, then my $ 250,000 education from Bentley University is worth nothing, and that I should have saved my college savings.»
He said, well, I’m so confident about the price that I’m going to print out the blue book price, «ARE YOU GOING TO PAY THE PRICE IF IT’s HIGHER???» he said to me. I said confidently, «It’s not going to be.» He goes over to his sit-​and-​spin manager, gets the print out, sort of freaks out at his manager, and comes back with his mood completely changed.
Without admitting that he was defeated, he says, «So this car is out of your range then, was there anything else you liked?» I said, «Yeah, I’m going to Maine to buy a car. You just lost all further referals from my girlfriends family.»
I think he overestimated me as soon as I got out of the car asking how old I am (22) figuring that I was just some dumb college kid. Here’s one tip and 1 word: Go to Herb Chambers, and AVOID this dealership.

Awful experience here while browsing for cars. Salesman was aggressive, impatient and pushy to the point that, despite the fact that we were interested in the car, we had no choice but to walk out and take our business elsewhere!
Lenny was so intense, insulting, and in your face that we couldn’t stomach giving him our business. We went on a rainy evening, and he was so desperate to get our business that night that when I told him that my wife and I wanted to go home and think about it overnight, he vowed that he would charge us $ 3000 more the next morning because «tonight was raining, slow and they wanted the business tonight». At this point we knew it was all games and walked out. Save your time and shop elsewhere. Sleezy place.

I have to agree with Rachel. Bought a truck here & had a bad overall experience. They are not honest people and do not explain things properly when you ask questions. They talk you in circles.
Shortly after I had the vehicle it broke down (the transmission went) and they gave me a hard time about fixing it and charged me for a rental while it was being fixed. I had to really fight with them to get the work done and find out what was going on continuously.
Live in learn– Ive learned not to buy a vehicle from them!

Do NOT go to Quirk! Unless you want to be lied to and cheated.
I really wish I could give negative stars for this place!
Basically, I put a down payment on a car, but it needed some things fixed. As part of the deal, they said that they would put new tires and a new bumper (was damaged) on it and repair some other minor dents and things wrong with the car. Well, when I came to pick it up, most of the work had not been done and they were refusing to do what they said they’d do, saying they didn’t promise those things. They also refused to let me cancel the purchase.
They ended up doing some shotty further repairs, and because they had already put the loan through (which they also lied about), I had no choice but to take the car.
