Shan-​T Native Kayak Tours is a guided outdoor entertainment and physical activity family oriented company, providing eco-​friendly kayak tours designed to bring families together while enjoying the natural wonders of our beautiful state of Florida through educational, non-​destructive exploration of Florida’s native eco-​system, such as the Florida Mangroves which are disappearing from the coastline at an alarming rate.

Both owners of Shan-​T Native Kayak Tours, Michelle Thorpe and Micheala Williams, both have children with disabilities. It is the goal of Shan-​T Native Kayak Tours, Inc. to provide family fun that allows children to have fun and enjoy. Our guides are specially trained by the American Canoe Association and are certified in First Aid and CPR.

History

Established in 2011.

So how did our company come about you ask?

During a camping trip that the owner’s two families had, over a campfire the owners were discussing how wonderful it would be to provide a service that was family friendly, fun, educational, and affordable; a way for families to create meaningful memories together. Nowadays, especially with the economy families are looking for activities they can do together. It was an easy decision for us to put together this company for that reason but it did not stop there.

But there was one concern both families had.

Business Owner

Michelle was raised on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. She spent her younger years swimming, fishing, and crabbing on those waters and relocated to Florida about 15yrs ago and has been trying to find ways to get back on the waters since then. She is married to Mark and they have 2 wonderful children, one who has Aspergers. Michelle’s mission is to provide the opportunity for all children to experience the wonders of the Gulf of Mexico regardless of disability. She is currently finishing her Bachelor’s Degree in the area of Special Education.
