If you like quiet, romantic Italian places, this is not your place! But if you like helter skelter atmospheres, with a friendly and attentive staff this might be for you. A reasonably diversified menu came as a bit of a surprise sincce its is billed as a pizza joint. The four of us had pizza slices varying from a stuffed meat concoction that was excellent to a slice of lasagne pizza that was also over the top. We also had two types of salads and they were very good as well. Next time I will try one of their entrées, I bet I won’t be disappointed. its very busy as dinnrr time with a large takeout service. Bring you own beer or wine as they do not(yet?) offer such.

I lived in Lakewood Ranch from September 2015 through April 2016. During this period, I ate at Michelangelo’s about once per week. It was my go-to pizza place in the neighborhood. My parents are also permanent residents of Lakewood Ranch and eat at Michelangelo’s regularly. Friendly staff, great food. I recommend anything on the menu here; can’t go wrong.

EXCELLENT food! This is the place to come if you want true NY style pizza. I’ve never had a bad thing from Michelangelos! With the expansion of floor space, it really adds to the appeal of dining in. Oh and it’s BYOB!

I love the eggplant rollatini, always freshly made. The recent expansion was a good move, you can have a sit down meal rather than getting it to go. I wish they would deliver after 3 pm.

Amazing Chicken Picatta, also the expansion really sets it off as a family friendly restaurant

Have been eating there since it opened. See big change, and not for the better, since enlarged. Salad dressing both almost nonexistent and tasteless. Tonight my marina sauce was watered down and free of much taste. Same for wife’s Marsala sauce. Happens again and they lose long term customer.

As a displaced New Yorker I am(like all the others) very critical of my pizza. I am so freakin glad this place is here! It is now the ONLY place I go for pizza now. All the people working there are from L.I. also so its nice to have conversations once in a while. They are expanding now because of the demand, especially with the nearby schools and the word getting out about the awesome pizza. I introduced a coworker from out if the area to Michaelangelo’s and now when he is up this way its all he eats at lunch!

I’ve been dining here for 9 years now and the pizza has always been amazing. My personal favorite has always been the grandma Sicilian pizza with garlic knots. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with celiac disease and sadly had to stop visiting my favorite pizza place. They recently added a gluten free pizza crust to their menu and I couldn’t be happier. The gluten free crust comes in its own tin pan to prevent cross contamination and any of the pizzas can be made gluten free. Today I ordered the grandma Sicilian on gluten free crust and I was very pleased. The 10 inch crust had a nice crunch and doughy-ness to it which is often lacking in gluten free crusts. I would definitely come back to order other gluten free pizzas… now if only they could add gluten free garlic knots :).

Yes five stars! Amazing food and service deserves five stars! Tonight we ordered the veggie pizza and a meatball parm hero. Both were fantastic. The veggie pie has so many veggies it’s a full serving of veggies in two slices. The meatballs were soft and flavorful. As usual we will be back!

Disrespectful, rude, belligerent. Served us a pizza that was JET-BLACK on the bottom. Inedible. Expressed my concerns to the wait staff, got a half-hearted«whatever» kind of response. Got home and inspected the rest of the pizza. All of it was burned on the bottom. Called and spoke with Frankie who said it’s his«family business». I told him the quality was inexcusable and that burned pizzas should never leave the kitchen. Frankie yelled at me on the phone, said the pizza was«fine». He then said he had to «check with the owner» and called back 45 minutes later. Again said it was«a perfect pizza» and offered a refund but then WITHDREWIT! Slammed down the phone on me. I called back to say I would leave a very negative review about his restaurant, service and how mean-spirited management is to their regular clients(yes, we WERE regulars until tonight). He said«I don’t care. . go ahead and write it.» Well, here it is. Everything about tonight’s experience at Michelangelo’s is inexcusable. Shame on you Michelangelo’s for treating your customers like this. All it would have taken was for recognition you did wrong, a refund(that you didn’t retract) and we would have remained customers. Instead I’m here to tell everyone to STAYAWAY. There are plenty of other pizza places in the world.

Over a year past my wife and I went in and had dinner and the cook then was yelling at his teenage waiter. It was disgusting how he was treating the guy. We stayed away until just recently when we gave the place two shots. The first resulted in our not being fully happy but not enough to complain about. This recent trip resulted in a dinner with over cooked spaghetti and some God awful dish of Baked Ziti with peas. I am not sure if the sauce came out of a can or not but it tasted like it. In any event, we won’t be back. Also, two bugs that shouldn’t have been there were on the table and got onto my wife’s plate. We told the waiter and he just basically ignored the situation. I look back now and realize that based on service and food we over tipped, but we won’t be going back and so it doesn’t matter. As it was I couldn’t eat what they gave me because I didn’t like the taste and my wife’s was so over cooked it was nuts. Won’t be back.

I love how you are able to watch the chefs make the pizza. The environment is happy and the restaurant is very clean. The workers are kind and you can tell they work very hard all day. Now let’s get down to the point. As difficult as this is to say I did not think pizza was that great. I say it was a difficult thing to say because I really think that the employees are wonderful and I don’t want to put them down in anyway. The pizza crusts are pretty thin, even when we ordered regular crust pizza. The sauce is a little soupy and there’s not very much substance to the pizza at all. I didn’t feel like there was anything spectacular to this pizza. I definitely think that in comparison to other pizza places this one isn’t a favorite at all and in fact we probably won’t go back… Unless it’s to get Cannolis! Their Cannolis are amazing and if I could just rate those, I would give them five star rating. It seems like their prices were quite high for what we received. Unfortunately, pizza in the freezer section of the grocery store is as good if not better.

I have been extremely fortunate to live right down the road from here. Or maybe that’s a bad thing… My poor arteries… Anyway, I first discovered this place when I moved down here and needed some grub during school. It’s located in a little strip mall at the southeast corner of Lakewood ranch blvd and 70. The guys are straight from NYC. At first I was thinking it would just be another pizza joint, but I found out very soon that they have become my favorite pizza place. The restaurant is small, probably seats less than 30 without being too crowded. They have a display of their pizzas behind glass and the pizza oven is right there. There is a kitchen in the back as well. Their menu is actually quite extensive including sandwiches, appetizers, soups, salads, various pizzas, calzones, pasta entrees, meat entrees, etc. Aside from the pizza, which is thin crusted, crispy, and has a generous amount of toppings, I’ve had the Caesar salad, calamari, and a chicken parm, all of which were delicious. The servers are pretty good. I think they’re mainly high school or college kids. The prices are quite reasonable. Less than $ 8 gets you 2 slices of awesomeness. I order the spinach and ricotta pizza a lot, but my fav is the New Yorker. Gotta represent right? Can’t wait til they start delivering.

A staple of ours, Michelangelo’s has been around for some years now. They have traditional NY pizza and meals. Their consistent and the food is fresh, which is much more than I can say for the majority of the«out East» restaurants here in town. I love the traditional cheese pie along with their«white» pie. The Chicken Francese has always been great and their veal marsala is great also. My only qualm is that they don’t deliver! A while back, they tried to open a delivery store and it seemed that it didn’t fare to well as the quality was hit-n-miss and the delivery drivers were untimely. Go to Michelangelo Pizza! It is terrific and MUCHMUCH better than the chain pizzerias hands down. P. S. — They have a 2nd location in Parrish for all of you in the Ellenton/Parrish locale.
