Specialties
We’re all about bringing people together through great food, music and welcoming service.
Our dishes are influenced by years of experiencing international foods in New York City. We also display broken dish mosaic art and works of painters and local artists.
Every dish is made to order and everything is made in-house, including our amazing rustic and flatbreads. We look forward to sharing our place with you.
History
Established in 2012.
Arts & Eats has been the dream of Chef Jim Copening and Artisan Donna Slawsky since they first visited the Village of the Arts in 2009. They were living in New York City’s Greenwich Village at the time and found inspiration from the thriving creativity and colorful bungalows in the Village of the Arts. Over the first 6 months of 2012 their 1925 chartreuse bungalow was transformed from a charming residence to a restaurant and gallery with tin ceiling, golden walls, a sea-themed dining porch, front yard dining, and a fabulous backyard «park» with a huge banyan tree and shade all year round.
Meet the Business Owner
Jim C.
Business Owner
Chef Jim Copening grew up in central California and moved to New York City in his twenties to pursue a career playing bass guitar. While in New York, Jim experienced the multitude of ethnic flavors on the streets and in neighborhood restaurants. In addition, he dined in the finest restaurants in the city befriending chefs and learning the fine art of cooking. Jim attended the French Culinary Institute and worked as a private chef while living in New York. He worked at New York’s finest establishments, including Sardi’s, Esca, Aquagrill, and Bar Americain in the front of the house. Chef Jim’s restaurant experience encompasses both the front and the back of the house. Arts & Eats service and cuisine reflect this experience and his passion for international flavors.
