Queen’s Gate Resort

My Mom and I decided to travel to Florida for the Mother’s Day weekend since we do not see each other throughout the year living on opposite sides of the country. We picked Queens Gate because we thought it looked charming, it had easy beach access, and the reviews we saw were relatively decent. The reservation was made at the end of February, in early April I received a promotion at work so we called to see if it would be possible to switch the reservation from Weds-​Sun to Thurs-​Sun.
said all was well and my Mom called the Queens Gate and said it was fine as well.
The night before we were supposed to arrive the hotel called my mom and demanded to know where we were. apparently there was some confusion between
and the hotel. My mom explained and they were nice about it and said they’d see us the next day.
Upon check in the next day the manager was confused as to how much to charge us since she had just returned to the position and was not used to working with
and things. She said not to stress that it would be taken care of once she talked to the owner and to stop back the next day. We were eager to start our vacation and agreed. Upon stopping in the next day we were told we were being charged for 4 days still and demanded payment. Since they were adamant we were staying thurs-​Monday now.
Mom called
and explained the situation and after a half hour plus on the phone with the
rep going back and forth with the hotel we got it sorted and finalized the final total for three days. We thought all would be well. We stopped in asked if on Sunday we could have delayed check out seeing as it was Mother’s Day and we wanted to enjoy some time on the beach before heading to the airport. The manager said since they didn’t have many check ins we could have until 1pm.
We enjoyed the rest of the weekend with little problem except the towel service only worked once (in order to get towels you had to put the basket of towels outside your door and fresh would be replaced… our basket disappeared the second day and we never saw it again.)
Fast forward to Sunday… Mother’s Day. We go enjoy the morning on the beach and are getting ready/​packing when there is a knock on the door. The weekend manager informs us the owner told her we had to be out by 1230 or he was going to charge us another day. it was 12:20. When we said we were told we could stay until 1 she said she knows and normally it’s not a big deal but the owner rescinded the confirmation of delayed check out.
After all the problems we faced and the fact we did not have to pay for the extra night we were not there for we were pretty sure the owner was trying to just get extra money from us and being petty trying to catch us. We were out by 12:29.
I’d like to say we’d give Queens Gate another shot but I’m afraid that would be the case if everywhere else was booked. The fact that it seemed like we were being retaliated against in the most childish way was a turn off. It’s a great location but it’s not the risk of having the hassle of what happened to us this time happen again.

LOVED this place! We do a girls weekend every year and this place by far has been the best placed we stayed. It is very reasonably priced for the location! You can walk right down to bridge street and have great restaurants and bars so close by. Suzan who ran Queens gate was so sweet from the time I called to make our reservation until the day we checked out. They were on the property every day and so friendly with us. We stayed in Room #9 and I would request it again! We were right outside the pool area and they had an adorable gazebo that was covered and lit up at night. Everything was very clean and they provided chairs and towels for the beach also. Directly across the street was a beach access to a lovely beach! I would recommend this place to anyone. Remember, your on Bradenton beach and it is a old town setting, that’s what makes it special.

I read the previous reviews and booked our mid july, 2 evening stay. We needed a pet friendly inn and this filled the bill with a reasonable price. We stayed in unit 8, which included a dvd player and a good selection of movies to choose from in the office. Not really a 2 bedroom but it sleeps 4 without a problem. Very clean, nice pool, wi-​fi, shuffle board, large pergola, gas grill, laundry, close to the beach and provided beach towels & chairs.

I recently rented out the whole place for my wedding with family and friends. I had my wedding at the beach, then my reception in the back area of the resort with about 35 guests. I loved the cute cottages and the location… it’s right across from the beach & walking distance to restaurants. Plus, there is a free trolley that stops in front of the resort that will take you anywhere on the island. I found this place online and went to visit… the place & area are so much better in person… I just loved it! The manager, Kathy and also the weekend manager (his name slips my mind), and the owner were so friendly and easy to work with throughout the planning process & stay.

I would write a review but I’d have to say that the review by «Mag» was spot on.
I’ll add in that the place has a lot of room to walk around which is more than I can say for most. I also like it being close to the pool too. I stayed in #8.
For us, we found the shower was toooooo small which wouldn’t fit two adults. The kitchen was a good size for three people to eat and you could eat four but three was the best. We found the stove not to work 100%.
The front room (bedroom) was too hot but you could sleep in it.
BTW, We also stayed at the Harington House; was very good.

I don’t have a lot of great things to say about this place.
We chose this place based on the positive reviews and because we were staying on Anna Maria for only 3 days and most places require a 7-​day minimum and when we booked, there was little available but this place. I guess that makes sense that it was still available based on our experience.
We were charged $ 670 for 3 days in early April 2010. I wouldn’t mind the price if I thought it was worth it. The people running the place were rude and argumentative both on the phone and in person.
We requested and received a 2 bedroom cottage. It was unit #12. It really wasn’t 2 bedrooms and it wasn’t a true cottage as it was not free standing. When you walk in, the front door opened into a small sitting room where they placed a double bed. This was bedroom #1. From there you stepped into the second bedroom with a queen bed. Also in this room was a TV mounted to the wall and a small couch. The 2 bedrooms were separated by a closet type door. In the 2^nd bedroom, there was a short hallway to the bathroom on the left side and on the right side it led directly to the kitchen area. Therefore, this was listed as a 2 bd, but it really isn’t. The only real door in the place is the door to the bathroom. This unit is really more like an efficiency.
We came with 2 small children and because we could not close a door, the were constantly waking up from the noise which could not be avoided as you walked around or prepared something in the kitchen or watched TV. In the bathroom, there is only a glass stand up shower — no bath. The unit only had a VCR — no DVD player. A bath and DVD player sure would have been nice to have for the kids. When we booked the place, we said we would be bringing small children and they said their place was very accommodating for kids. Yeah, right.
The place is old… probably from the 50’s. Most parts were clean, but there were cobwebs on the ceiling fan and orange scum around the shower base. Also, the inside of the bathroom and kitchen cabinets smelled of mildew. I could just be picky here, but my wife likes a place to be clean and this did not meet her standards.
There were a couple of things I did like. One was the back patio. This gets you to the pool and it nice to sit out there in the morning or afternoon. This place was listed on Trip Advisor as not having internet, but you can find antiquate coverage by the pool or on your patio. Also, there is a hose to wash off the sand after going to the beach. Also, the pool is very nice. It is small, but clean and the water was warm.
I would definitely NOT recommend this place. Please use our experience to find a better place. My parents are big fans of the Harrington House.

What a great find. This place is 60 steps from the beach. Dog friendly and a great pool. If you stay in cottage 1 – 6, the curtains don’t block the light from outside. The cottages have connected patio so on a Friday night when we showed up everyone was having a great time on the patio. Morning if you have your group hanging in the patio area just remember you can be heard in the rooms around you if you are a loud speaker. The beds are comfortable and the room is clean. They have in the room a small fridge, coffee maker, microwave and plates and utensils for 2. They don’t have a stove. But the 2 bedrooms in the back by the pool do. I wouldn’t recommend sleeping more then 2 people in the 1 bedroom cottages. The place is in walking distance to the BeachHouse Restaurant and other great places for food. The price to stay here is very reasonable.
