The Brew Gentlemen Beer Company

The Brew Gentlemen is a solid brewery in Braddock. These guys are always mixing it up and continue to be creative in what they brew. My favorite is the White Sky chai wheat beer. I also love the Mexican Coffee beer which is seasonal but I would drink that year round! The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. They also have events on a regular basis from yoga to food truck round ups. I have no problem making the trip to Braddock because the Brew Gentlemen is worth it and judging by how packed they can get goes to show you that they are doing something worth a visit!

This place was great. The atmosphere is very cool with brick interior, pipes, pallet walls– industrial feel. The menu of beers is listed on a computer monitor. I decided to taste the wheat (chai), CPA (citrus ale– I would have never tried this but she suggested it and it turned out to be my favorite), and the Deep Breakfast (coffee stout). Every single beer I tried was awesome. This was possibly some of the best beer from a brewery I have had in a long time. The coffee stout was the best coffee stout I have had. It wasn’t thick and syrup-​ie like many others or overpowered. My husband normally does not like coffee stouts and after the $ 2 taste, he ordered a pint of it.
In the place, there are a bunch of tables to sit at, a bar area to sit at, and lots of board games to pick from and play. Although I never felt like the place was packed or noisy, there was a continuous line of people at the register area purchasing beer the entire time we were in there and it was only noon which says this place must be doing something right. There’s also a variety of take home beer options too such as the growler and then a smaller growler for a cheaper price. We also loved the dog that hung out in the room!

My husband and I got to sit at this place for two hours and play old school Scrabble! Able to drink, socialize and have amazing drinks all while spending time with the brewery pup! You have to get the Ploughman, the Chai and the Nelson Saison! this spot

Wow! This establishment is quality and on the forefront of a regentrication effort in Braddock! Great atmosphere, service, and wide beer selection! Sometimes, you can grab quality (so I hear) gyros, etc. at food trucks just outside. There are multiple areas to hang out including the bar, if its a little crowded. The bathrooms are clean and on the way back, you can peek at at the brewing silos in a separate room. This, along with the original ceilings and bricks compliment the industrial blue collar feel of Braddock, USA.
I grew up in Swissvale (1980s-2001)…Please support this place and any other good intentioned entrepreneurs bringing life back to this great town!

There’s nothing bad you can say about the Brew Gentlemen! These guys started something extraordinary for Braddock and it really is exciting. I followed them on FB and IG while they were renovating and preparing to open, and there’s a lot of love there. The beers are great, definitely something for everyone on their menu. The space is just absolutely beautiful plus it’s in an easy to get to location and there’s tons of parking. They often have food trucks parked outside to feed your inevitable hunger (Blowfish BBQ yesss!). The Food Truck Round Up nights are great too; I will admit they are getting a little too crazy busy for my liking, but I think it’s awesome for the business anyway. If you haven’t been to Brew Gentlemen yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. Get there immediately and give it a go!

I love love love Brew Gentlemen. Unfortunately I’ve only been lucky enough to go a few times now, but I want to make it more of a habit. Seriously, some of the best beer I’ve ever had. General Braddock’s IPA and Insane Clown Party are absolutely fantastic. Every time I go, I’d love to try something different, but I love these beers so much I have to get these two.
We really wanted to go to the last food truck round-​up, but we didn’t get there til after 10pm. We are making it a point to go to the next one though.
The interior of Brew Gentlemen is a really great space. I love that there are games available to play while you drink. Great place to meet up with friends. If you love beer and you’re in Pittsburgh, you have to try Brew Gentlemen.

Even when crowded with hipsters, The Brew Gentlemen is 5 stars. The space is amazing. There’s different rooms with different vibes for whatever you’re feeling. There’s the bar room where people patiently wait in line for their next beer. There’s the main room when you first walk in with various tables and built in shelves on one wall where you can set down your beer while you’re standing around just chillaxin’ with friends. Then there’s the annex with a couch and a few tables where one can enjoy a movie or game.
The Brew Gentlemen are all about giving back to the community, too. I was lucky enough to be in attendance at their Hitchcock Halloween party at Carrie Furnace in 2014. I’ve been around for a couple food truck roundups. On one of my more recent visits I enjoyed a Lou, an ale for ALS. I have a lovely Brew Gentlemen t-​shirt courtesy of their pay-​what-​you want event they had to unload older merchandise (including glasses and clothing items).
In addition to just being an all around cool business, they make some outstanding beer as well. Of their flagship beers, the White Sky (a chai wheat) is a favorite among many. The tap selection rotates through various sessions and saisons and I like to try one or two of their test beers to see where things are headed. I get very excited every summer with the arrival of Garden Party (a refreshing cucumber wheat) and every winter with the arrival of Mexican Coffee (oatmeal stout).
While writing this review, I just happen to notice that my BG growler is empty. Looks like I have some business to attend to. Gentlemen? Get your taps ready.

An odd but intriguing experience would best describe my trip to this brewery. The ability to try the different beers was a plus. I enjoyed quite a few on tap. The staff was accommodating however the ambiance lacked the normal protocol of a bar.
There were no tv’s nor music. You could hear a pin drop during Happy Hour. My hour of silence drinking was more reflective in silence than light hearted and fun amongst the commotion. Not necessarily a bad thing but certainly a different experience.
I would recommend a visit for yourself.

This place is so beautiful! I’m beyond impressed!
We went on a Food Truck Round up night here and the place was packed! We waited a while to get a beer but it was well worth the wait. Even tho it was packed the staff were patient and explained all the beers to us and helped us choose the perfect one. The price was very reasonable for a micro brew as well, $ 6.50 for the one I bought. The area was so simple and so well designed and decorated. The rough walls and large antique wood doors really pulled it all together. (I wonder if you could rent it for a wedding reception or something? Oh wedding bells!!) Even with all the people, it was quiet and I could have a conversation with my friends without having to yell. (or wish I had more friends who knew sign language.)
They have a dog just running around that was so sweet and so cute and I just loved him! (Side note*: I love all dogs so it could have been the meanest little shit dog and i’d be like, «look at his growl, isn’t that cute!» But really this one was nice and I kissed him lol)
The bathroom was large and painted a dark green color with some flowers in the corner. It was cute and clean! I had to wait a while to get into the bathroom, but there may have been another one, I’m not 100% sure.
I am dying to go back when there isn’t a Food Truck night in the hopes it will be less crowded and we could take in more of the atmosphere.

I was shooting pics in Braddock and stopped here for a drink with the camera kids. Let me just say I am a huge supporter of John Fetterman, The Braddock Youth Project and the revitalization of downtown Braddock… but I have a running monologue of how things aren’t quite there yet…
The place is spectacular when you come in. Cool, industrial chic. Bartenders are so on point, they are easy to engage about the beers they have and what you are looking for. They understand their product. Another cool symbiotic relationship going on is food trucks stop by for a couple hours for you to nosh on goodies with good beer!
This is what bothered me — the inauthentic crowd. In Lawrenceville, you see people from all walks but lots of locals supporting local business. At The Beer Company I saw a lot of Shadyside hags with Kate Spade bags in the hood. You know they don’t live here, they aren’t going to other businesses in Braddock and they flee at dusk. That’s what needs to change. More people need to invest in real change there. I really believe it could happen.
I’ll go back! I am real and do not own a Kate Spade bag!

The brew gentleman has a cool setup in an unexpected location. I’ve lived in Pittsburgh for two years and have never been to Braddock before today. I tried to Unilocal a place to grab food nearby and bring over and realized there’s not too much else nearby.
The ambience is post industrial with lots of wood, old fashioned metal accents and incandescent light bulbs. There is plenty of seating spread over three rooms. When I came the room I the left was closed for a private party. There are two separate bars, one in the room on the left and one on the room on the right, with the center room being seating only. I like the windows in the back looking at the brewing equipment /​area.
I got samplers of three of their beers, the brew gentlemen ipa, akamai double ipa, and the business casual imperial red. My favorite was the akamai, then the business casual. The brew gentleman ipa was a little disappointing.
They were supposed to have a good truck today, but apparently they cancelled, and with no other food options I got pretty hungry. Overall this is a cool spot to check out though the location is a bit out of the way.

There are no words to describe The Brew Gentlemen. OK, maybe one: AWESOME!
The craft brews they create are absolutely delicious. I have not had a beer that I did not enjoy from the Gents. Chai Spiced? Amazing. IPA? Yes please. Stouts. Hefes, or lagers? Yes, yes, and yes.
When I first walked in. I saw a Golden Retriever, historic restoration, an amazing beer list, and orange ties. That pretty much sums up The Brew Gentlemen. Bring your furry friend, grab a pint, and enjoy one of their food truck round ups, yoga, or other events hosted at the venue.
I love that they are part of the restoration of Braddock. They support their community and even named a beer General Braddock’s IPA (of course it’s delicious). The Brew Gentlement is a must on any craft beer lover’s bucket list.

Braddock is back on the map. Not for steel, not for «Out of the Furnace», but for beer. That’s right. The greater Pittsburgh area is getting more and more known for revitalization and renewal, and it’s nice to see Braddock become a part of this renaissance. And leading the charge? The Brew Gentlemen.
I’m sitting in the Brew Gentlemen’s viewing/​auxiliary bar room as I type this. We are watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs on an enormous projector screen and drinking delicious brews as part of the Brew Gentlemen’s Arbitrary Party. Why are they open on a Monday night? No reason. Just PCBW… or something arbitrary like that.
The beer: tonight we’ve had General Braddock’s IPA (a crisp East Coast-​style IPA that can holds its own with a hophead like me), Loose Seal (a 7% ABV spring saison that makes me smile), Overgrowth (a heavy hop-​aroma wheat coming in at 5.2%), and Business Casual (an Imperial red with punch without being cloying). The beers are delicious, as always. We are impressed as usual with the offerings — and walking in to «The Big Lebowski» when we first arrived didn’t hurt, either.
The Brew Gentlemen are doing everything right. Where else can you go for a night of amazing beer, board games (oh, did I mention that they have a selection to choose from?), a cycle-​powered smoothie and fountain (okay, THAT isn’t here all of the time), industrial-​chic décor, a big-​screen projection TV, and the Pgh Mac and Gold good truck?
Nowhere else. Come to the Brew Gentlemen. Seriously.

Wow. This place is amazing. As soon as Aj S. told me about this place, I KNEW I had to check it out ASAP! I finally had the chance to check it out and was blown away completely! First of all, I love that it is located in Braddock. Not only because it’s an easy 15 minute drive from my house, but it’s one of the many new businesses in Braddock that is helping to bring new light to the neighborhood. I was also excited to see that there was a parking lot as well– ALWAYS a plus!
I am absolutely in love with every single thing about this place. I love the atmosphere, the entire vibe you get when you walk in, the décor, the brick wall, the fact there was a dog just hanging out in the brewery, the idea of the bartenders wearing suits – it was all so unique and fun!
They don’t have a kitchen, but food trucks are there almost every single day. We went on an evening when the Pittsburgh Taco Truck was there– we just ordered them and took them right in the brewery, sat down and ate them before even ordering a beer (I didn’t want the tacos affecting my taste buds while trying all of their beer for the first time, lol). What’s so cool about this idea of food trucks– they have different food all of the time! I checked out their site and saw that Blowfish BBQ often comes to The Brew Gentlemen, and sometimes they even have food truck round ups, where multiple food trucks come at one time. I am SO excited about coming back here to try more food trucks and drink AMAZING beer.
Now, about the beer… WOW. Every time I visit a brewery, or try multiple beers from the same brewery in general, there’s typically always a few that I don’t like and a few that I love. Every single beer that I tried at The Brew Gentlemen I LOVED. Here are the ones that were on tap when I visited that I had the opportunity to try:
Overgrowth– this is one of their spring releases and I attended the day it was released officially. WOW. It was by far my favorite beer out of all of them. It basically tasted like a hoppy wheat ale and was PACKED with flavor. I had two samples of this one, it was the best! ⁵⁄₅
Prototype 2– a blonde coffee ale. Let me start off by saying, I don’t like coffee. The only way I will drink it is if it’s iced and mixed with lots of sugar and cream. I LOVED this beer! It smelled and tasted like light coffee and was almost mocha tasting to me. It was so unique and just unbelievably good. 4.5÷5
Nelson Saison Ale– so refreshing and light yet packed with delicious flavor. There were hints of lemon and orange– perfect for summer! They had this in bottles, so I made sure to purchase one before I left! ⁵⁄₅
White Sky– the chai wheat ale! I read tons of reviews about this one and could not wait to try this unique flavored beer! It did NOT disappoint! It was the PERFECT fall beer– perfect amount of spice and flavor. Super tasty and different. I really enjoyed it. 4.5÷5
Build and Destroy– a really really dark wheat ale. What a crazy unique idea! Such a good flavor, this seemed to be my boyfriend’s favorite. 4.5÷5
General Braddock IPA– for an IPA, this was exceptionally smooth, the perfect combination of malt and hops. It was everything you could want in an IPA. 4.5÷5
I loved that the screens above the bar not only displayed what beers they had on tap, but the glass it came in, what kind of beer it was and the percentage. It made choosing which beers I wanted to try super easy! The sample glasses were adorable, ranged from $ 2 – 2.50 a glass and each glass was 5 oz. Super reasonable!
The service was excellent, the beer was perfect, the bar is gorgeous… this place is awesome! I left with a bottle of beer to take home, two glasses and a t-​shirt.
I am in love with this place and cannot wait to come back!

So many things I love about this place. I was immediately in love with the rustic-​meets-​contemporary décor. There are plenty of places and there’s plenty of room for people to stand, if going to hang out. If you would like to sit, I think I counted ten tables or so.
No food within the brewery, but there’s a food truck stationed outside. When we were there, it was the taco truck, and they were delicious.
The beer selection is very wide. Many things to suit every palate. I also love that the bartenders are in white button down shirts and ties. It brings the gentlemen aspect into the place.
Very cool!

I stopped into The Brew Gentlemen for the second time earlier today by myself. It was a long awaited visit after my first time being there for a Unilocal party. The inside of this place is pretty awesome. Inside the main bar area two of the walls are wood while a third is brick. Everything is in dark neutral tones and it created a memorable but soothing environment.
This time around I decided to sample 5 of their beers. A chai spiced wheat, an east coast ipa, an imperial red, a wheat stout and a wheat wine. Surprisingly I think that the chai wheat was my favorite of the bunch followed closely by the IPA. I do love their willingness to experiment with different beers. At the Unilocal party we heard that they made a chicken BBQ beer and were looking into making a Hawaiian BBQ one. While I will be the first to tell you I am not sure how’d they work or taste, I would love to try them. The guys that own this place have also been super nice and really friendly both times I have visited.
The bottom line for me is that I will definitely be back here again in the future. I love their willingness to experiment with beers and only wish that it was a little more convenient for me to stop into!

I read about this endeavor a couple years ago in Pittsburgh mag and so happy to see it up, going and going! Really happy to finally get here.
Located in the main drag in Braddock it’s very unassuming storefront is the perfect entrance for this very unassuming gem. Simple décor that is indigenous to the area’s mill heritage. Black granite bar, simple wooden tables with metal piping bases and stringed light bulb fixtures. Few framed drawings on the walls. It’s just the right amount to keep the beer the feature. Beer menu is on computer screens which adds the right amount of modern to the place. It’s cozy. Enough of décor. To the real feature.
Beers are awesome. Was able to about half of them and settled on the Build an Destroy wheat stout. Rich, full bodied and perfect for a cold winter night. Also had a prototype beer… gose which is a sour and a sour done right! I hope this prototype makes a permanent tap.
Food trucks outside and you can order eat outside or bring it in… they will even bring it in for you. BG keep a schedule on their website. What a great way to feature local food trucks and always have a variety of choices.
What I liked the most about this place was the enthusiasm for the product. Genuine excitement for customers to try their beer and like it. With the rash of craft beer enthusiasts out there who tend to become a bit of elitists, this felt like going into someone’s home and having them try your favorite recipe. It was like sharing a beer with a good friend.
I love, love, love this place and it will definitely become a regular haunt for me.

Before I start my review, I just want to say how awesome it is that Braddock is building it’s way up! While driving on the main street, I saw so many new developments and buildings that were stunning. Hopefully this brewery will pave the way for more businesses to see the potential of the location and help liven the town up!
On to the brewery… five stars! I’m not much of a beer connoisseur so I really just try everything to see what I like. I love that the staff explain everything fully to you and really try to find you something you’ll like. My favorite beer of the night was the cucumber flavor. It sounds weird, but oh so good! It was refreshing, light and still allowed me to get a nice little buzz (wink wink). My boyfriend enjoyed the darker beers.
The place itself is beautiful. It’s rustic, yet still homey and comfortable. Their lounge area is pleasant and I’m obsessed with the dimly lit bar area with the coolest light bulb chandelier I’ve ever seen. I want one!
It’s great seeing this in Braddock and I want to give a huge BRAVO to the staff and owners. For being so young, you all do a great job. You’re business savvy, smart and aren’t afraid to take risks. Us Millennials representing!

I’ll say it over and over again. I really appreciate when business owners put the time and thought, not only into their product, but also their aesthetic. The place is gorgeous! All wood and brick, it has a rustic, yet cozy feel. They have so much space, it’s exciting to think about what will be possible here. But onto the beers…
They are delicious! It’s rare that I try all the beers on tap and like them… ALL! But I do! I first feel in love with their White Sky, which is a Chai beer. Yep, you heard me right, CHAI BEER! If yinz know me, you know I love my chai tea, so this is perfect for me. They even make their own chai spice blend to put into the beer. Totally impressive! I also really liked the Build and Destroy wheat stout and the Business Casual red ale.
These dudes are young, but smart, and I’m so excited to see what they’ll be up to. Plus, I’m excited to drink all the beer. That is all.
