History
Established in 2016.
The Braddock Inn is a venerable landmark destination at Braddock Heights, in Frederick County, Maryland. It has served the community since 1903, first as Camp Schley, a boarding house for men. Later, it was a safe house for women and children involved in domestic abuse cases. Then it was the site of Maryland’s first public ski slope and lodge. Ski lift apparatus are still there, marching up the mountainside.
A large building of over 10,000 square feet, the Braddock Inn is comprised of four levels: a basement, a ground floor, and two upper floors. As a restaurant, it last operated on the ground floor only. The upper floors have not been in use for a long while and are currently being remodeled. The basement, accessible by its own entrance, houses a bar and entertainment areas. The ground floor has a similar arrangement, but features larger dining areas, as well as a seasonal veranda.
Meet the Business Owner
Carlo D.
Business Owner
Carlo Dan, has spent the last 20 years gaining the knowledge and honing the skill set necessary to make his dream of owning his own restaurant a reality.
Carlo’s passion for hospitality began in 1995 when he joined the staff of Barry Berkowitz, a hospitality master at the Melting Pot in Rockville. Within less than a handful of years, he worked his way up from bus boy to General Manager.
After leaving the Melting Pot, Carlo enrolled in culinary school and graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Art Institute of Washington. He was the honors fellow for German Master Chef Edwin Scholly and performed his externship under Chef Scholly at AIW’s in school restaurant, Culinaire. During his time at AIW Carlo also completed his level two certification with the International Sommelier Guild.
Carlo spent the next five years at Volt as a service captain; mastering the steps of fine dining service and learning everything he could from Chef Bryan Voltaggio.
