Shady Shack Grill

I will start out by saying that I have eaten here several times and always enjoyed the atmosphere. I only live ¼ mile from it so its easy to drop by for a quick meal or to have drinks. the food has always been decent and the drinks are average. But on this certain visit there it was HORRIBLE. It started with the waitress/​bartender taking our drink order and then instead of bringing them to us proceeded to visit with her boyfriend, father and children. Finally after several minutes she came back and took our order. 3 items on the menu were not available so we settled on burgers and fries. I watched as she conversed with her company as she was entering our order in the computer. She then waited on her family. It was taking a long time to get our food but her family received there food quick. But to top all this off when our food finally arrived it was cold, like it has been sitting for awhile and she served us with her baby on her hip. Yes she was behind the bar serving alcohol and food holding her baby. Really… who brings a baby to the bar??? So after all of this I boxed my cold food and took it home to reheat and eat my dinner there.

Awesome location, server great. Be prepared to wait a very long time. We showed up at 220 to avoid the lunch crowd and they sat us immediately. Food arrived an hour and a half later. The manager argued with me about when the order went in. If you are going to run a restaurant that seats fifty people you apparently need more than two people in the kitchen. Won’t be back anything me soon. It’s a shame. Such a cool atmosphere.

What a terrific surprise, read the previous reviews and went anyway — waited 20 mins for food, 4 of us, server attentive kept refilling drinks and getting beers. Food terrific, burger, grouper sandwich, sliced chicken and avocado, chicken tenders all good and amazing sunset viewing spot and CORNHOLE — great evening! Thanks all!

This is a difficult review for me to write. I really like Poplar Creek Marine and all the people that work there. Lots of friends work there so I’m torn. I’m hoping that I can come back at some point and revise this review from 2 stars but right now this is a much as I can do.
The food is really quite good, if you can EVER get it. The service is beyond slow. I was there a couple of Sundays ago and it took 2 hours to get a couple of cheeseburgers with fries. Yes, I know they were short-​staffed that day. They kept saying that but TWO HOURS?
An entire table of 8 just ahead of us simply got up and walked out. They’d been there far too long as well. I really want Shady Shack to thrive but something has to change here. I know I’m reluctant to go back. I believe a lot of other people are as well.
Hopefully they’ll turn it around and I can come back with a better review. Until then, it’s a cool bar with cold beer and good food, but don’t be in anything that even resembles a hurry when you get there.

This has all the makings of a great waterfront bar. Unfortunately, servers need more training, they were gossipy and the food (burgers and wings) took 1.5 hours to come out! We lost valuable afternoon sun waiting for this food. Another table got up after an hour wait and politely left. The bartender was offended and started carrying on about the customers. Then the cook came out and made a scene. Then our food came out at least a half hour after that. Asked for our food at least three times. Food was decent so gave it two stars to be nice, but the staff needs a good manager.
