Does anyone know what happened? They are closed, space is for lease, no other info.

I used to go here, until the changed their menu. With the change they got rid of some of their best items, raised all of the prices by at least 25% and cut the portion by a 33%. Another sit down Chinese restaurant in South Florida to avoid.

I was drawn to this restaurant by the Unilocal reviews. I also recalled days of mediocre Chinese food at Kingsburg(rumor has it the owner here used to work at Kingsburg) and i was hopeful for at least mediocre food at Shanghai Garden. i have tried numerous dishes and I am sad to report that the food here is less than great. It is less than mediocre. Again South Florida Chinese disappoints. Much like Kingsburg there is a level of remaining fat and grease that leaves one disappointed. Furthermore they only offer a complete dinner or lunch and these offerings are priced much higher than competitively bad Chinese food in the South Palm Beach County area. Lastly, on each of my three visits I was served b the same server. I believe that she may be the owners wife. Let me just say that she was less than pleasant to me and the other diners. I have lived here for 18 years, I have chosen to raise my family here, I am so sad to say that we have to go home to NJ to find great(even good) Chinese food.

I recently went back to Shanghai Garden and am pleased to announce that they have added a vegan section to their menu. They now offer vegan soups as well as vegan meats. I tried the ‘chicken’ which was good. They also have vegan shrimp, beef and other entrees. I was told that I was the first person to order from the new vegan menu. So, I just wanted to let the Palm Beach vegans and vegetarians know. I think that it is not only a great gesture but a progressive one at that to provide these options. One of the lamest things for a vegan/vegetarian is to go to Chinese restaurants that offer a vegetable soup in a chicken broth which makes it inedible for us. Shanghai Garden has stepped up!

Looks like a scene out of The Godfather, where you go to negotiate the terms with your hot mess, eat really good food, and have GREAT service at the same time. Now scram before I smack ya…

This restaurant is terriffic if you order from the Chinese menu. The menu is in Chinese, but with English translations. The owner Andy and his wife Katie are great. They will explain the menu if you have questions. If you call in advance, Andy will prepare anything you want. He is a real foodie. The most authentic Chinese restaurnt I have found in South Florida.

I’m giving this review 5 stars mainly because of the location. In South Florida it is almost impossible to find a decent Chinese restaurant that actually serves Chinese food. Most are fast food types that cater to the mainstream American’s idea of a Chinese dish. orange chicken, egg rolls and the like. This restaurant has a decent dim sum menu for lunch(I haven’t found any other restaurant serving dim sum in the area), I would recommend the turnip cake. although it’s one of my favorite dishes! They also have a great Taiwanese beef noodle soup. another dish you probably will have a lot of trouble finding, and the chow fun is also very good(if you want it to be cooked«Chinese style» mention it to the waiter). Food is prompt and quite good. Of course they have the typical American menu, kung pao chicken, beef and broccoli. I grew up in Southern California where there are many many Chinese and Asian restaurants, so if this restaurant was located there, I would probably give it three or four stars. But if you’re in the Palm Beach area, I would recommend this restaurant as being one of the best!

If you’re looking for an authentic Chinese food without having to drive all the way to Fort Lauderdale or Miami, this is the place! We always come here to eat. Our friend from DC even insisted to return here, even though they have many great Chinese restaurants up there. They serve dim sum during the day. And they’re served fresh from the kitchen, not the ones served on a cart to impress people. At night, we would order family style. While the portion is not huge(American size), they’re full of taste and flavor. Hot tea, chips and dip are free. While all of their dishes are good, here’s some of our favorites: Stuffed eggplant(with shrimp) dim sum, Fish Maws with Crab Meat Soup, Peppered Shrimp(huge shrimp) and Braised Tofu. Oh yeah, be sure to ask for their Chinese menu. Beside the list of the more authentic Chinese dishes, we noticed at least a dish that’s listed cheaper there versus the«American» menu.

New owner was a waiter at Kingsburg restaurant, which just sold. He knows the business and will answer your questions cordially. Dining room is comfortable with fine Chinese art work and décor. Service is good, professional and well mannered. Besides the traditional Cantonese, Hunan and Szechuan favorites there are Shanghai and Hong Kong dishes. They also have healthy choice dinners. Weekends a large variety of Dim Sum is offered, which I found to be very good and it seemed to attract Asians, a sign of authenticity and quality. Shanghai Garden is my top choice for Chinese fare in the area.
