As a California-​based attorney, I have seen enough to know that a high fee does not necessarily guarantee high quality work. So when my 95-​year-​old, Florida-​based father decided he wanted to make a living trust, I interviewed a number of attorneys but didn’t like their bluster or, given the relative simplicity of what needed to be done, their prices. I ultimately decided on Samantha Reich, an attorney at a firm that someone had recommended to me. I really liked her (no attitude!) and appreciated her competence. Because of my father’s age, I asked that everything be completed in one visit, which is what occurred.
When it was over, my father, who hated the estate planning attorneys he previously had, called me and said it was a «beautiful, beautiful experience» in which he felt acknowledged, listened to, and appropriately handled. To say that my father is not compliment-​prone is an understatement: In this case, he was simply effusive. «I wouldn’t hesitate to use her again» was just one of many exuberant things he had to say.
Thank you Samantha Reich for making this process a painless and efficient experience for my father (one of my major goals), for not rushing him even though he stayed far longer than we’d anticipated, and for exceeding his expectations — something I never would have dreamed possible!
