Very unique atmosphere. Owner/chef is very friendly and willing to accommodate whatever craving you might have. Menu is a large grease board on the wall that changes as ingredients come and go with the seasons. If you’re looking for a different sort of culinary experience… this is it.

I love this place, Chef Hai, and his cooks. Everything is amazing, Chef Hai is a genuine human being who knows his stuff. Favorites here are: Butternut Squash Chicken Curry, Stir Fry with any meat, Rib Eye, pasta, and the rice itself which serves as a side is delicious. Go here and enjoy!

Always excellent food and a great experience. Good options for Celiacs. We always just tell the chef to make us something good and he never disappoints.

Chef Hai is amazing. I live in California, but come to Salt Lake on occasion for work. Every time I’m sent to this state, I eat here for dinner, regardless of the duration. Reasonable Prices, Amazing food. His steaks are delicious.

I’m highly disappointed with my experience that I had there where teenagers in the kitchen throwing fresh food around and the menu was non existing but when I searched it on line it was a $ 10-$ 12 plate restaurant the«owner» basically order for my date and I you could pick between seafood and meet we both chose meet and when we went to pay we where not told our total and he just swiped our card little did I know he charged me $ 70 for just the 2 plates. So if you go here be prepared to OVERPAY!

Food was amazing! My wife took his suggestion and had the white fish he, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly it was the best fish she has ever had! I had the ribs which are not always available and they were excellent as well, he makes the BBQ sauce himself. The highlight was the stir-fry side dish which was seasonings and all vegetables we both couldn’t get enough. We will be back!

1st visit was for lunch. I had the phở and it was delicious. My friend had the Valencia steak and it looked amazing. I look forward to my next visit. Chef Hai was enjoyable to chat with, he definitely takes a lot of pride in his food.

Chef Hai came to our table and sat down with us asking what we were in the mood for. I gave him my answer to chicken or beef and he came back with the most amazing tasting Valencia steak I have ever had. Stirfry vegetables with rice on the side were absolutely perfect in taste, texture, and just crunchy enough to be totally enjoyable!

The chef/owner was nice and helpful in explaining how the restaurant works, and going on and on about the quality of food and the greatness of the restaurant. The chef did not even cook the food for us or check the quality before it left the kitchen. The prawn stir fry was way to salty, soupy and the shrimp overcooked all for $ 30. I have had better from Michelin star chefs for that price. The restaurant is messy, dirty and run down. I get the feeling the chef was once great and made great meals, but he has lost it and now’s serves mediocre food that just pays the bills why he chats away with the customers. If you have any taste in food, just don’t bother with this place, there are better places to spend your money.

I went with a party of four, whom a friend introduced to me, and was treated excellently and the price was right, roughly $ 20 a person. We all had steak, a very large size, and a side of two prawns. Total bill was roughly $ 100 with tip. We were very happy and decided to try out the prime rib on a Friday to try the Lobster and Prime Rib. This was considered a 5 star experience. But… Below is on the daily menu, on their website: «Lobster & Prime Rib(Friday & Saturday Only) Our wet aged prime rib is seasoned with organic herbs and slow roasted for sixteen hours. Paired with one half stuffed steamed Maine lobster, topped with orange mango coconut sauce . Served with side salad and your choice of Jasmine blend rice, pasta, cheese herb risotto*, or cheese potato**.$ 29.95» I went there with my wife and a friend, so party of three. My wife and I ordered the above, lobster and prime rib. My friend ordered the Phở. I left a 20% tip. It was when I walked out that I began to pay attention to how much I was charged. My total bill was $ 120 with tip. So unless my friends bowl of Phở is the most expensive in the whole world at roughly $ 30+, I got overcharged. Not happy. Should have been $ 30×2 for lobster/prime rib + maybe $ 10 for Phở = $ 70+tax. Service was fair this time but being messed with my money is a big no no. Will not go there again.

Wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I entered. Not the typical restaurant. Walk in and find a seat and the chef will approach you. Very nice guy. Not much of a menu, but it’s simple! Very good flavors in the food and it tastes excellent. I highly recommend this place for anyone! As long as you don’t mind spending $ 20 a person

Very odd setup… restaurant inside a cluttered store. Menu appears based on the ingredients on hand, and the cooks whimsy. But the cordial owner/manager(be prepared to engage in conversation), and excellent food more than makes up for the odd atmosphere. Will be back.

Highly recommend for a unique and interesting dining experience. Delicious, unique flavors and combination of herbs and spices in chicken curry dish! Chef Hai makes it a point to greet and seat each diner. If you’re lucky, he will join you in an engaging conversation! Every dish comes with a complimentary dessert served to you by Chef Hai. Love the fresh vegetables and herbs mixed into the dishes. Healthful and interesting plating. Located in South Bountiful. In parking lot of Winegar’s grocery store.

I don’t even have the words to describe how amazing the food here. I would give it more stars if I could! Incredibly fresh ingredients and incomparable seasoning. You can tell that Hai truly has a passion for food and what he does.

I was first introduced about Thyme & Season by an old friend of mine. The restaurant seems like a hole-in-the-wall when I first wall in, and mostly decorated like a grocery store with a cafeteria attached to it. The setup can be rather strange if you never visited before, if you are lucky, the chef table might be emptied, that is usually where I prefer to sit, otherwise you just seat at an empty table and the chef will come take your order when he is available. They really should have a sign posted near the entrance. Chef Hai has a rather odd personality, maybe it is one of those top chef personalities. Some may even call it eccentric. He looks Vietnamese, but he only speaks English. I tried to order a big bowl of Phở one time, and he was like«no, I would never serve something like that to you, try something else.»(Probably because I am Asian) Ordering can be simple or as complicated as you want. Basically pick a protein on his list on the board, which is whatever is in season, then choose a style you want him to cook it. First time I got Ribeye Steak with Italian style, so he served that with pasta. The steak was nice hot and juicy, and I would say it was one of the best in town. Those were pretty amazing pasta, probably my top choice among his sides. Another time I got the steak Asian style, and he served with a mix of stir fried veggie and sided with rice. The steak was pretty good, but the Asian fusion with sauce and rice did not work too well, so I am probably sticking with western style when it comes to steak. The chef did a Lobster special for me with a bunch of stir fried clams underneath, this worked better than the steak, since Asian style went well with seafood. The chef did not spare on the ingredients, as it was a huge lobster tail and the clams were nice and fresh, reminds me of those popular Chinese stir fried clam dishes. It definitely will be a fresh experience every time you visit here, since his ingredient list do change over time, and certain items are only available on the weekend like the Prime Ribs. He also sells Carolina Reaper peppers here, and claims to be the only one in state that does. I tried one, it was ok spicy… others may disagree. The chef would not put it in his dishes for cost reason though. It was definitely a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere at Bountiful.

Well we went in thinking this place was going to be glorious, but it fell flat. Really flat. The owner/chef is really friendly and nice. The service is great. He does a short q&a upon your arrival if this is your first time to give you the run down of how things go. He will remind you pretty often that he is a four star chef and his wife is a dietician. Even with a great resume, the food was sorely lacking. My husband got the prime rib and I’ve had much better before. It was really lacking flavor and honestly did not seem like the best cut of meat. I had one of the seafood options with pasta. The option I chose did not seem flavored very well and there was not much mixed in with the pasta. The pasta was full of herbs but still managed to be bland. Edit: One of the other reviews said it well. I was hoping for savory but nothing we got was even close. I won’t even try this place again because it takes awhile, the food was really disappointing(dare I say bad), and the atmosphere really could use a lot of work. I’m sorry to all the loyals and the wonderful, sweet, chef but I just cannot get aboard this bandwagon.

Oh maaannnnn… I wanted… so wanted this to be an amazing experience. Starting from the beginning… 1. This place is not fancy inside or out. I’ts part restaurant, part store. Not a big deal if the food is fabulous right? When we walked in we just kinda stood in the door way until Chef Hai noticed us and asked us what we wanted. To eat of course! So he told us to sit at the bar where some of the food is made. Then he asked us what we wanted. Having read all the reviews we told him we really like seared tuna and steak. He told us to go help ourselves to the soda machine while he made the food. Still excited we got our drinks and waited. 2. Chef Hai brought us out a small sampling of the steak to taste. That’s when I knew we were in trouble. Super sweetish bland. Right then I should have asked him to spice it up but I didn’t want to offend him.(My bad) He then brought out the entire steak with a small bowl of pasta in some sort of sauce. Steak… super sweetish bland. Pasta… super sweetish bland. I kept trying to sneak salt and pepper on everything without Chef Hai seeing in fear of him getting upset. 3. Next came seared tuna. Looked delicious! Took my first bite. Super sweetish bland. It came with a small bowl of rice. Bland. And a salad which was… you guessed it… super sweetish bland. 4. Chef Hai then gave us a small gluten free cupcake and chocolate dipped strawberry. I took one bite of the tiny cupcake and left the rest. It was more bland than white bread. Here is the thing. Everything was cooked very well but the flavors were not there. Like… at all! There was no savory element what-so-ever. I longingly stared at the hot sauces, pepper flakes and salt behind the counter the entire time I ate. Everything was just so bland and… well…sweet. I just don’t get it! Chef Hai is a really, really nice and personable guy but his cooking is not all it’s cracked up to be. I’m very sad about that especially for the amount of money we spent.

Don’t be fooled by the hole in the wall appearance, this place is awesome! Not knowing what to expect when we first walked in, Chef Hai greeted us and asked us what we were in the mood for and I asked for a menu. He said he didn’t have a menu and would make whatever we were in the mood for. I was craving some pad thai and my girl wanted curry and he pretty much just whipped it up right then and there. The food was super fresh and tasty. He made chicken pad thai and a butternut squash curry. It was pretty unique restaurant experience. Chef Hai was definitely a character and made eating there super enjoyable, we also had some french pastries he made which were amazing! I’ll have to come back and try some other dishes he can whip up.

I have been here a few times and have always had a good meal. On this last visit I had the prime rib and my wife had the salmon. We sampled each others food and both enjoyed what we tasted but it could have been slightly better. For the prime rib I would have loved to have a side of au jus and some creamy horseradish served with it. The temperature of the prime rib was a bit over for my preference, I like a good amount of pink and red showing. The potatoes were a bit bland and needed a good dose of salt before eating. For the salmon… it was perfect, some of the best I have ever had. The risotto served with the salmon was bland like the potatoes and needed salt. Like the potatoes, after a good seasoning it was pretty good. Like I said, I have always had a good meal here and will return. The place is cluttered with odds and ends laying around and could use a good declutter.

The Thai Chicken Stir Fry is some of the freshest, most flavorful food I have had… ever. Seriously! It does look like a dive, but just amazing! And so healthy! I tried the crème brûlée for dessert. Perfect silky texture and a really lovely vanilla flavor! Chef Hai is amazing in his knowledge of foods and their health benefits.
