Bird World & Pet Village

I was ready to buy 5 tarantulas but ended up walking out of the store without them irritated when I couldn’t get anyone to assist me. Stood around about 15 minutes while one employee was trying to figure how to do their job! Then decided to wait 5 more minutes before going, and left when we still weren’t sure if anyone was going to assist us today! They sort of suggested they were behind on work and we may want to come back another day, but in my opinion a customer in the store ready to make a purchase has priority over regular daily store tasks!

This place has the best selections of fish for hobbyist. I found endlers livebearer here! They also have pacu, arowana, dragonfish, eels and other exotic fish you won’t find at petco or petsmart. I wish they have more aquatic plant selections for low light setting but it’s ok, the rest made it up. The employees mostly know well about the animals. I only had one disagreement with. the manager I think? It was about how to care for juvenile axolotl. They put them all together in one tank which triggers their cannibalistic behavior and they lost all their little paws and they would grow to be cannibalistic adult axolotl. Other than that he’s been very helpful especially with fish, and showed some concern when my fish caught dropsy even if he didn’t actually care and faked it.
I also bought cabomba plant there that came with one unwanted snail that I killed and fed to fish but since then it’s been good until lack of light killed it. Also, it’s not ick-​free so remember to quarantine first. I killed a whole tank from a $ 2 otocinclus that caught an ick when i was quarantining it while trying to introduce it to freaking algae wafers. Anyway it was my fault for overdosing but the ick was there. Their plant is not super algae free so always have an algae eater around. Aside from my rant, this place is awesome. It’s got turtles, rabbits, birds (I love their finches, especially the rainbow colored one that reminds me of mine in Indonesia that died, from old age I hoped), hamsters, disgusting rats, and just everything you need for your pet on competitive pricing. Larger options on the brands too. The staff are mostly helpful. Sometimes a little cold, but remember that they’re animal people not people people so it’s understandable if they’re not too friendly. This is coming from an animal person too so I understand their unfriendliness completely. Talking to people is a lot of energy.
And I’m also glad Ralph the Asian monitor lizard was eventually put for adoption and that he got adopted. I hope he went to a good home, he was cramped in a small space. He reminded my of my monitor lizard that my maid starved to death in Indonesia. Bad memory.
Anyway come here and buy their stuff. On one note, please don’t buy bunnies. Rescue them from the shelter instead.

Prices are comparable to any major pet store but the products are better
Their fish are in amazing shape despite some being in over crowded tanks. And such a wide variety of fresh, salt and exotic fish with tons of live coral and plants to accommodate any aquarium.
The fish experts will spend as much time as it takes to educate you and find the perfect set up and products to meet your needs. Not just in store, but multiple phone conversations lasting over 10 minutes of their time to explain and educate.

Good selection for an all around pet store. That being said I’m usually buying aquarium supplies and freshwater fish. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable, able to exchange fish within 4 days, (Fish 4 U in Holliday offers 7 days). Plants are healthy, though my first batch of anachris came with some unwanted ramshorn snails.

Me and my family drive about 45 miles to go to this store. Staff is always helpful, and has a great supply and fair prices.

I bought my Beta fish from here an love seeing all the new fish they get! They are a wonderful place to get any fish! An I never have brought home ick from these guys! An I have been a customer of them for 5+ years

I used to ride my bike across town as a kid to just look at the animals here.

The co-​owner Cheryl literally got in mine and my sister’s face about how I should learn how to be a parent and that I should go tell all my friends about my experience so they can all come back and treat the store like a ZOO too. I called later to speak to the owner about Cheryl’s shocking behavior. When I called, Cheryl answered. I asked to speak with Doug, and when she realized it was me calling, she blatantly hung up on me! I called back and I unfortunately learned that Doug is Cheryl’s brother. He backed her up 100% and said that we should teach our kids how to act in a store, and that the reason for my call should have been to apologize to THEM. Sure, my 18-​month-​old may have touched the fish water a few times, but I was right with him the whole time. And regardless of what my kid did, their reaction was absolutely SHOCKING and was SO uncalled for.

If you buy puppies and kittens from here, you are supporting abusive treatment of animals. Go to a breeder that you can see their facility, or better yet adopt from a shelter or rescue group. Check here to support those who don’t support puppy mills:

I purchased my dog from here four years ago, against my better judgment. I was heartbroken about not being able to adopt a specific dog at the Utah Human Society (they gave her away to someone else) and jumped to buy my dog from Bird World.
Like Kristin B above, I was told their dogs are NOT puppy mill dogs. Well, they 100% are from puppy mills. My dog is wonderful, and he is perfect for me, but he is absolutely a puppy mill dog, at least according to the papers the shop gave me. (Some horrible place in Kentucky that was shut down for animal cruelty, I found this out once I did look it up, years later).
I love my dog, but I will ALWAYS be ashamed that I supported a puppy mill, and I would never condone someone doing what I did… thoughtlessly taking the word of some pet store employee and not being willing to wait for the right dog to show up at a shelter. I’m not an animals rights wacko or anything like that, but I feel sick to my stomach even thinking about the conditions my dog’s mother and father must have lived through (and died in) at that puppy mill, and that I put money into the pockets of the evil people who DID that to them… no freedom, no love… and I paid for it. (YES– puppy mills ARE THAT BAD. Look it up.) I can’t imagine not having my dog, I love him to pieces, but when we get another dog I will never consider a pet store again. A breeder? Maybe, if I couldn’t adopt from a shelter, but probably not, even though I think the shelters make people jump through too many hoops.
Take it from someone who will never stop feeling guilty about supporting a puppy mill: Don’t buy your dog here, or from any other store or «breeder». Rescue a dog in need of a home.

Pet Village seriously rocked our world today. Thank you guys for answering all our questions! Its absolutely no surprise to me now why everyone recommended you; we came down from Ogden. Our new Sun Conure (yet to be named) is settling in so well, and he/​she is so friendly! The animals at Pet Village are so obviously loved, spoiled, and well cared for. It was incredibly refreshing to see! The birds are open to customers for interaction (ask first!) and they are all so friendly and wonderful, I wanted to buy them all!
The prices here are absolutely comparable to the large pet store chains and you are recieving great service and a friendly staff with that as well. We purchased a new cage along with our new bird and the price was the same or less than chain stores. They carry puppies and kittens too, which as an «adoption first» kind of person I tend to get huffy about– but they are not puppy mill dogs, there are only a few (five in the whole store when we went in) and they are healthy and well cared for, and come from reputable breeders. They have a HUGE aquatic center in the back, looked like some pretty unique stuff. Their birds (which we went for in the first place) are well cared for, and the staff raise them right– so you are buying a bird that is already socialized, and instead of just getting «whatevers in stock» you are picking the one whos personality fits your family best. We are fans for life! Thank you!

Their prices are more-​or-​less fair, they have and awesome aquarium section, and a slew of different types of birds (Bird World right).
I purchased some love birds from here, and the gal took a bunch of time to explain background of the birds, treatment, etc.
I take my nephews here just to look at all the critters.
