I’ve owned a Rolex Submariner for 30 years(don’t hate me, it was a gift). For the entire time I’ve owned it, it’s never kept time. A $ 20 Casio was a far more accurate chronograph. Every few years, I’ve sent the Rolex to NY to be serviced. It comes back slightly shinier, but just as inaccurate. The last 5 years, it’s been relegated to a safe deposit box, as it would lose 5 minutes a day. Recently, I got a wild hair, and took my watch to Swiss Chalet. They kept it for a few weeks. I picked it up with low expectations. The bill for a full refurbish was not cheap.(Would you take a Porsche to Jiffy Lube?) much to my surprise, my watch runs like, well, a fine Swiss timepiece. Not only does it look new, it runs like it never has before. Weeks later, it’s accurate as my Suunto. Kudos to Swiss Chalet for resurrecting my watch. I know everyone isn’t into Swiss timepieces, but if you are, this is THE place to take it for maintenance.

I walked in the other day to get an quick ballpark estimate on what it would take to repair a problem I was having with my Tissot T-Touch. The sales person knew exactly what the problem was and without even needed the watch showed me on another how I can remedy it myself, and even gave me a copy of an instruction manual for my model. I was very impressed with her knowledge and friendliness.

I’ve been going to the Swiss Chalet since the early 1980’s when Walter was still around. I love this shop. Just had to go in for a couple of battery replacements, and had a great time talking about watches and learning the difference between a few brands and models that I’ve been considering. Bruno and Eric have carried on the tradition their father began of sustaining a top notch watch and clock business in a fantastic way. While I was there at least 5 people came in who had obviously been long-term customers, based on the discussions I overheard(yep I was eavesdropping!). Don’t go anywhere else. This is the best in town.

They really don’t do anything they say they’ll do. I’ve tried using their repair service twice now, despite the annoying sales guy. The first time I was charged $ 600 on a Rolex repair which was quoted at $ 400, took two weeks to complete(one week longer than quoted), and they gave me paperwork stating it was 20 years newer than it was. I decided to give them another try, and brought a tag in. I was told it would be done on a Tuesday, so I went in on Friday, and they looked at me like I was crazy for coming in without getting a phone call first. I took the watch back and got it done elsewhere while I waited for $ 60 less. I’m not sure how they get away with being an authorized dealer with this type of service. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I will not be going back. My advice, go to any another shop!
