RTD – Boulder Transit Center

I didn’t really get a chance to check out the entire center on a recent visit, but I’ll give it a five because it’s just that — a transit center that covers most routes on the RTD, whether directly or by connections, and includes routes that lots of other transit centers don’t. It even covers Eldora Ski Resort several times throughout the day and night during the season, which is an awesome way to get to the hill for $ 5 each way (just make sure you’ve got your skis/​boards in a bag.)
The only downfall was that the area between the back sidewalk and the Circle K across the street was packed to the rafters with crackheads and sketchy looking people loitering outside at about 6:30am. I can’t fault the property for this, but as with most transit stations, it might not be a bad idea to watch your back around here after dark and before dawn — it seemed like a stark contrast in comparison to the rest of Boulder.

The women’s bathroom has really nice sinks where you can adjust the temperature.
That’s it. That’s the review. This place has nothing else going for it.

On a recent trip via rtd bus to Denver for a very nice concert, I noticed a stark contrast: the Denver Market Street RTD Station is kept CLEAN. The Boulder Transit Center… not so much. Take for example the many running streams of **how do I say this politely? Don’t think there’s a way to do so** bright yellow urine… most likely the human variety, in the areaway directly in front of the parking lot elevator entrance. Oh, the stench! The elevator itself was charmingly soaked with the same scent. And all of the station except for the small indoor area with benches and offices also was a dirty mess. Have they stopped maintaining the station or what? It used to be kept clean back when I rode the bus regularly to and from the Auraria Campus in the late 90s. What’s happening here? Does anyone care?

The Boulder Transit Center was maybe perfect in size for the Republic of Boulder maybe 20 – 30 years ago, but today it is too small at it’s current location. The waiting area inside is too small with an overpriced snack stand taking up about ¹⁄₅ of the area alone. Buses are littered all over and around the transit center during peak times and it seems not one can get in or out of the center without blocking up traffic on the surrounding streets. BTC is most functional usually early in the mornings and late at night. Redesign plans are in the works, but relocating it all together may be their best option.
