Planned Parenthood

Went in to get an IUD, had no idea which one to get. The people at the front desk were so friendly and understanding, the nurse answered all 75 of my questions :-) and for the insertion the nurse was very gentle. Couldn’t think of a better place to go without having pay ridiculous co pays.

Great people but I had an appointment for 1230 and didn’t get seen until after 230. Not a place to go if you can’t wait an entire afternoon in a doctors office waiting.

2012 Review #241:
I’m not sure how many visits to PP I have to have to review them, but every time Unilocal reminds me and my check-in’s go up, I figure maybe I should finally get a stance on this location. That and hopefully my insurance will pay for BC now so I won’t actually be coming here anymore.
The best thing about this location, and PP in general, is that BC appointments are non-​invasive (unless you’re due for one), are cheap, can practically be done as a walk-​in, and take under 30 minutes. It’s with an RN, not a Dr. so if you have serious health concerns, don’t go here necessarily. However, I had some previous BC issues and the RN was really nice and really listened to my concerns.
PP also offers to mail your BC pills to you, which is an awesome service, that I have never taken advantage of. You can also buy multiple packs at one time, which I also have never taken advantage of, but is an awesome idea. I come in every month to get a pack, and I never have to wait more than 10 minutes, even with a full waiting room. I’ve never been here for a potentially embarassing reason, but everyone acts tactfully here and everyone seems pretty comfortable. Especially in a college town, PP is a great resource. Women shouldn’t have to pay $ 50 for a doctor’s appointment to get a prescription, so for that alone this is a worthwhile resource.

$ 61 for Chlamydia/​Gonorrhea testing without insurance. At Boulder Valley Women’s Health they tested me and gave me a look-​over for $ 21. I think I could have even gotten tested for Syphilis for less than $ 30 total. At PP they just had me pee in a cup and pay. HIV would have bumped the price up to over $ 100. I guess I feel like I wasted my money going to Planned Parenthood. The only advantage they offer is that they could get me in the same day. But it’s no wonder why, because everybody else probably went to BVWH.

As the other reviewers below said, this is definitely an important part of any community. In addition to the medical services they provide, they also are there for you if you need any counseling, or can provide you with the needed resources, and they really respect your privacy. On any forms you fill out, they ask you how you’d like them to be identified as on the phone, in case you’re living with your parents or other people who would not be happy with the fact that you’re going to PP, or that you just want privacy.
I felt that I was treated like a human and not just a patient. With both the PA and the NP I had real conversations about life in general, other than just my medical history, and was even told about some social events going on in Boulder.
In case you really need help, PP is the place to go if you’re facing an emergency or are in a bind, or also just a place to get regular ‘girly doctor’ things done in a welcoming and comfortable environment.

Planned Parenthood is automatically upgraded a star from what I would otherwise give them simply by virtue of being a Planned Parenthood, which, like Dustin G. said so eloquently before me, is a necessary and vital part of the community. I love the work they do and I love what they stand for, so, thumbs up, Planned Parenthood.
I’ve just not often been treated with the kind of care they say they exemplify here. I’ve been rushed through appointments and given the hard sell on other services. I was prescribed a type of birth control that has the highest incidence of nauseating people, despite how in my appointment I said not being nauseated was of highest importance to me. I just never felt really listened to.
My biggest pet peeve is that they never want to use my insurance when I purchase my Pill packs because the difference between my copay and the cost of the Pill is ‘only’ $ 10. First of all, I’m the one who gets to decide whether I use my insurance or not, and second of all, who are they to tell me that $ 10 per month is chump change?! It’s a lot to me. It’s just laziness not to run someone’s insurance.
But I guess all of this is worth having an appointment for $ 50 with or without insurance and having the knowledge that there’s always someplace to go if you get in a bind.

I cannot emphasize how important Planned Parenthood is to the community. Places like this with their caring staff and cheap medicine, birth control, and std tests are critical. $ 45 for an HIV test even without insurance? Yes, this is a necessary service.
Look, shit happens, ok? so when shit happens, you need somewhere you can go with people you can trust, and Planned Parenthood is this place. I don’t care if you are pro-​life, teenagers or twenty somethings need clinics like this for advice and birth control, and more importantly with the confidentiality that this place gives.
Now if you are the type of person that pickets Planned Parenthood since it offers abortions as a last resort, then you should be ashamed of yourself (This includes the Texas contractor who used his influence to make it so no more Planned Parenthoods would be built in Texas). You have no idea what kind of emotional trauma people go through when this unfortunate situation happens. And believe me, it is better to have an abortion when the fetus is still at a stage where it has no consciousness and is therefore not a person and feels no pain than to have unwanted children. Notice however that abortions are the last resort: if people who don’t want kids have adequate access to birth control and correct information, there would be no abortions.
Apparently pro-​lifers who believe in abstinence only education fail to realize that sex is a natural part of life and growing up and that without education and birth control you get more abortions, not less. What would be even worse is to outlaw abortion: this would just force women who are in trouble to seek other unhealthier means to end their unwanted pregnancy. Look, no one likes abortion, even pro-​choice people, so let’s just all calm down and realize that places like Planned Parenthood are necessary and should flourish. Correct information and good access to health services are the best way to combat unwanted pregnancy.
I’ve been here, I’ve dealt with these issues, and the people at Planned Parenthood have always been exceedingly courteous and helpful. I cannot emphasize enough that places like these need to be in every city, and every rural area for the basic health of the people living in these communities… especially for the teenage age-​group.
