Paul Morrison Colours

Terrible waste of time and money. Spent several hours and $ 250 to look basically the same except for a trim. Highlighted my hair and then they cut out almost all the highlights. I told the gal I looked exactly the same and I wasn’t pleased. She just stared at me and couldn’t care less. I would not recommend this salon and will never ever return. Urgh!!!

TL;DR version
Color and cut were both fails. Candice is really sweet but this isn’t enough for me to recommend her as a stylist.
Details:
New to the area, **hate** having my hair messed with and asked for the most experienced stylist. Was set up with Candice. I was SUPER annoyingly specific about my neurotic hair needs; what I wanted and did not want. Was also very clear about being happy with my current look and only wanting a cleaned up version of what I had. I (annoyingly) spelled out that things needed to be subtle, natural and no-​maintenance because I:
1. don’t own a blow drier
2. don’t use product or style my hair
3. generally cut & highlight 2 – 3 times a year (when done right, this somehow manages to look good)
I even had the formula of my old stylist back in San Francisco. Thought we were good.
Nope.
COLOR
Came out a funny super-​saturated shade of yellow that looks like box color. I have no idea how hair works, but the word «overprocessed» comes to mind. The first few inches of my hairline/​part are noticeably worse that the rest. Awesome.
The big problem, and why I decided to write this review, is that she did such a bad job weaving in (?) the highlights that a month later, I now have a stark line of root regrowth where my dirty blonde meets Candice’s bright yellow. Y’know, the kind of thing you get from doing all over color? There’s a reason I don’t do all-​over color and this is it.
So, not only does my hair not look good *today*, I now have a maintenance issue to deal with. Really kinda pissed about that.
CUT
The cut came out weird after she added layers where there aren’t supposed to be any. She did some blending that helped even things out but I pulled the plug before things got worse.

Made a very solid attempt to fix the problems created by Candice (I requested another stylist). Was extremely thoughtful and thorough and conscious about not creating a new problem by adding in a bunch of random color. Whatever she did made things SO MUCH BETTER (I hugged her and I don’t hug) but 3 weeks later, the magic has mostly washed out and I’m back to a pony tail. Not her fault at all, she seemed really knowledgeable and generally awesome. I suggest starting with Ann Marie if you decide to give this place a try.

When things went south, they made every effort to make me happy. And I was *NOT* happy.

Jen is amazing! Another salon turned my hair a reddish/​orange after asking for a natural blonde ombré, and in 2 visits (one on her day off), Jen completely transformed my hair. I am back to a very natural blonde highlight, and will only visit Jen as long as I live in the CO area.

Staff is robotically efficient-​OK, uncomfortable, but they’re getting their job done, right? No. They’re busy being terrible to each other and the tension is palpable. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Heard two girls hissing at some other girl (an assistant?) because she’d mixed something wrong? I don’t know and I don’t want to. Just NO. You don’t let your staff make your customers uncomfortable by allowing them to cannibalize each other in front of us. I don’t need to hear/​see this. Also, my color was terrible, pulled orange days later, had to have my actual stylist in Austin correct it. Awful. Don’t support this sort of place. I’ve never seen employees treated so poorly. MEE-​OW!

Something is terribly wrong with this place. They won’t make an appointment with you unless you give your credit card number over the phone? Very shady. I’ve been getting my hair done for years and have never heard of something so ridiculous.

Today I went in to Colours for the first time with sad frumpy mom hair and left with hip, stylish, cool mom hair. I saw Amanda who was excited about the changes that I had in mind. She was very meticulous and also kept in mind the fact that I need something I can easily style. Very pleased with my cut and will definitely be back.

Thank goodness for Harmony! She saved the day today after I received the worst haircut of my life at a different salon earlier this morning. The staff at Paul Morrison Colours was so pleasant and professional, I was able to get in within the hour, and Harmony was a genius with her ability to turn an 80’s-style bouffant disaster into a classic, elegant bob. I am thrilled!

I searched high and low in Boulder to find a good hairdresser, often resulting in very bad cuts. Then i found Harmony @ Colors… she is amazing. very talented. Her knowledge of all things hair is excellent and i have never had a better cut. She was able to fix the layers (read-​shelf!) cut into my hair that i felt couldn’t be fixed. And to boot, she is so nice and makes your experience a pleasure. I can’t recommend her enough.

I’ve been to this salon twice and my experience till now has been absolutely fantastic. My stylist, Amelia, did a great job of listening to my needs and how I wanted it to be done by showing her 2 to 3 videos. She took great interest in looking at videos and photos I was showing her and did tell me which one would best suit my hair and what can be done to better the look. Amelia offered good advice and would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to get their hair styled in the most fashionable manner.

I was visiting Boulder this past weekend for a wedding and was unhappy with the haircut I had gotten back home in Boston just three days before. I thought I’d just live with it but then decided the day of the wedding that I wanted to get it fixed.
Paul Morrison was able to fit me in the same day and Jill was incredible! I was SO happy with how she reshaped my current cut, layered it perfectly and took a little extra time to blow dry it with some texture so I’d have a great do for the wedding that night.
I am so sorry to live so far away — if I lived in Boulder I’d go to Jill all the time. She was super sweet to boot!
Highly recommend these guys.

Loved my experience here! I’m really anxious when it comes to cutting my hair, but I felt very comfortable with Emily. I told her about my nerves before she started and she was really understanding. She took my cut slow, and kept asking if I liked it or if she could change anything. She was also really easy to talk to. Sometimes I feel like conversations at salons are forced and awkward, but with Emily it felt like I was talking to an old friend and not somebody I had met 10 minutes before. The price (especially in Boulder) was also hard to beat! I paid 43, plus a tip for a wash, cut, and style. Well worth it!

I was passing through Boulder and was in dire need of getting my roots done. Not something I felt I could ask just anywhere! I phoned the salon first and explained my dilemma, also that I had ‘floppy’ hair and needed bounce… Amanda was my stylist and she totally ‘got’ it. My color is perfect, my hair styled exactly as I wanted… so much so that I told her I now trusted her to cut my bangs!
Add this to a clean environment, punctual, super nice staff all around and I want to assure anyone looking for a great hair salon in Boulder, look no further! Not cheap but worth every penny when they get it so right.

Wanted to change my hair to coincide with my big move to Colorado. Decided on PM Colours for some ombré highlights.
Checked in and was offered a selection of beverages. Wine looked mighty fine after a tough day at work. Got settled in and Emily talked me through the process. She mentioned that because my hair was already colored, the bleach might have some trouble lifting. Went through the process during which time I leisurely enjoyed a few cups of tea. After she washed out the bleach/​color, we both realized that she was right and it wasn’t as light as we both expected. Emily very graciously offered to redo the highlights free of charge. Made an appointment a week later, went through the process one more time, and the results this time around were what we both anticipated and liked.
The customer service was exceptional, I especially appreciated Emily talking me through every step of the process and what to expect. I’m also very satisfied that Emily recognized that I wanted a lighter color and was more than happy to accommodate me with a follow up appointment. I think I’ve found my salon for all my hair needs.

I’ve been cutting my own hair for 6 years due to a traumatic hair cut experience in high school, so I was very nervous coming in to get my hair cut. However, my stylist, Amelia was wonderful. She was so nice and seemed to understand my concerns. After getting my hair cut and dyed, several of the customers and other stylists were commenting on how great it looked. I will definitely be coming back!

My first experience at this salon earlier this week was 100% positive. From the appointment setting, to followup and respect of my time that I haven’t experienced in the few salons I have tried in Boulder/​Denver.
The stylist, Emily, did a great job of discovering my needs, how much effort I want to put into my hair daily and fixing the previous butcher hair cut I had received earlier this fall from a different salon.
I would recommend Emily and Paul Morrison in a heartbeat. Overall, I am excited to be starting a long relationship with this salon.

Amanda was fantastic. She listened to my needs and gave me a fabulous cut and color. I felt like I was talking to a friend the whole time. The other stylists were professional and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back! My 8 week appt is already booked.

I can’t say enough about how happy I was with the service here. I moved to Boulder and had to fin a new place to get my hair done. I checked reviews and tried PMC. I met with Shasta (senior colorist) for a consult as my hair had been doing some really weird stuff with color lately. Turning red when trying to be dyed dark brown and other shenanigans.
I was really impressed how she recommended the most minimal approach to getting where I want to be instead of trying to oversell me on processes I didn’t need. She also gave me an excellent hair cut which not many expert colorists do. I am very pleased and will be going to her from now on.
True this place is pricey, but I feel it is very worth it, and I have never had a problem spending a little extra on my hair. it’s the one thing I wear every day. I felt I got good bang for the buck especially as the more minimal treatment course she recommended will eventually save me money. I did not mind giving them a credit card for my first service, even though that came off as not my typical experience, I’m sure that in a college town they get no-​shows and that costs them a lot. Love love love and highly recommend!

The first time I went, I called the day before to make an appointment on a Saturday. (Yes, very last minute scheduling.) They scheduled me without any complaints at a convenient time. When I arrived at the salon, however, my scheduled stylist hadn’t gotten the message in time, and hadn’t come into work. (Which was perfectly understandable with less than 24 hours notice!) Instead of having me reschedule, they gave me another, better stylist (Shasta), and tea while I waited. She charged me the same rate that the other stylist would have charged and gave me a really wonderful haircut.
I have been back since then, and Shasta has continued to give me great cuts. Everyone else in the salon also seems really customer-​service oriented. The ladies at the front desk and other stylists are always friendly. I can’t recommend this salon and Shasta enough!

First time in today and I will certainly be back. Nicole did a fantastic job not only in listening to what I wanted and actually delivering the great end result, but also in her really great way of chatting during the process.
I tend to feel really awkward when getting my hair cut. She was so easy to chat with, kept the conversation moving along, etc. She gives awesome shampoos, and we all know how much those count.
All in all I’m very happy with my experience. Maybe next time they’ll earn a 5’er :)

Love love love the Colours crew and my stylist Nick I went here on a co-​worker recommendation after my hair stylist moved to LA. I can’t even count the number of compliments I get on my hair color daily!
Nick is fantastic. He is very attentive and gives the best head massages. He also won’t let you leave until you are completely satisfied with your cut and color.
Their customer service is so refreshing and rounds out the services. The atmosphere doesn’t feel catty like in other salons. All the stylists seemingly get along and respect one another. It is a very comfortable atmosphere and I always look forward to returning.
