music FUNdamentals is an intensive 5-​day music camp for kids ages 8 to 11, where they will learn keyboard harmony, jam on African, Latin, rock and rap grooves, play the blues, and explore classical masterpieces with stories and art projects. Lisa Harrington has 25 years experience sharing the wonders of music in a lively and engaging way. The class size is small so each child will be challenged at his/​her own level — all levels welcome!

History

Established in 2000.

Each year since 2000, we’ve studied a different classical orchestral masterpiece and make an art project that displays features contained in that piece: Russian dolls for Prokofiev’s «Piano Concerto No. 3», a solar system mobile for Holst’s «The Planets» a jukebox for our study of American composers, «The Hero’s Journey» storybooks for «Beethoven’s 5^th Symphony.» I choose a work that will be performed later in the summer at the Colorado Music Festival, so that families can attend the performance — the kids really love listening to a piece that they understand so well!

Lisa Harrington has been teaching music for over 25 years. She has advanced degrees in both musicology and performance, teaches piano privately year-​round, and has given educational presentations for the Boulder Public Library, the Colorado Music Festival and the Boulder Bach Festival.
