We provide a complete offering of environmentally friendly lawn and tree care services to Boulder County by using zero or low emissions equipment, the highest quality organic products instead of toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, and irrigation methods to reduce water consumption.

History

Established in 2010.

In 2008, owner and founder, John DeFilippi realized it was time to offer an environmentally safe alternative to traditional lawn care that is dependent on chemical applications and synthetic fertilizers as well as pollution-​spewing lawn equipment. He began researching the philosophy behind organic lawn care and consulting with the country’s leading experts and soon realized that the formula was simple: Conventional lawn care treats symptoms — Alternative lawn care solves problems. So in 2010, ecoLogical Lawn & Tree Care embarked on its first season of business, built upon eco-​conscious principles and a promise to keep people, pets and the planet safe as Boulder’s first complete earth-​friendly alternative to lawn and tree care.

In July of 1988, right here in Boulder, I started

The Right Move Inc., a local moving and storage

company, out of my garage with one truck and

one employee. Over the next sixteen years it grew

to multiple locations, a large fleet of trucks and

over one hundred employees! The business was

sold in 2005. Well…here I go again with Boulder’s first

eco-​friendly lawn care service!

With the amount of climate changing pollution spewed by lawn equipment it is time to offer an environmentally safe alternative. I am building this business using the same principles and methods I used twenty years ago with great success; unparalleled customer service, competitive pricing, top-​notch employees and the best equipment and technology available.

Ecological Lawn Care is horrible. They do not know property boundaries and have cut lawn that is not mine. I can’t communicate this to them because they neither answer the phone nor return messages. The laborers who provide the service do not understand what I am telling them. I do not recommend this company, slim to no customer service and there is no on-​site supervision.

I appreciate this company is more natural but I am experiencing problems similar to other reviewers including over charging, not getting services, and getting services I didn’t ask for. I used them last year and they were a little flakey but this year this company is a mess. First, they do not respond to emails or phone calls asking for services. Second, they have been doing services I specifically told them not to do and then billing me. Third, they aren’t doing the services I actually asked for. Lastly, the only service they did for me this year, that I actually asked for, they charged me twice as much as estimated. i have tried to talk to them but never get a person, only voicemail, and they don’t respond to emails. I wrote them and told them they were fired, so we will see if they keep coming and trying to bill me.

I am sorry to say that this company doesn’t stand by their work, doesn’t do what they say they are going to do and has terrible customer communication. They repeatedly said they would do the work and then didn’t show and didn’t call to say why. The work finally got «done» but when I pointed out that I still had a leak they wouldn’t do anything about it. This is the only time I’ve gone to the trouble to rate a company. It’s the worst rating, but they definitly earned it.

AFTER TWO MONTHS WITH JOHN DEFILLIPI (GIVING HIM TOTAL CARTE BLANCHE TO MY YARD) AND ECOLOGICAL I HAD BALD SPOTS IN MY YARD WHICH EXIST TO THIS DAY AS NO ONE HAS TOUCHED MY YARD SINCE ECOLOGICAL.
I am a SINGLE AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALE and 100%DISABLED VET.
One month I FOUND A PILE ON SEED ON THE NORTH PART OF MY LAWN. MR JOHN DEFILLIPI SAID TO ME, «SPREAD IT OUT WITH YOUR FOOT.» And he still billed me the seed.
EcoLogical lawn care carries out predaotry-​type business practices. EcoLogical lawn care claimed they seeded my yard with SEED ONLY REQUIRING WATER. And I asked multiple times only to get «only water» from JOHN DEFILIPI and all his staff. I have but one sunny spot in my yard with conditioned soil because the previous owner had a thriving raspberry patch there. Now, that is the only place were grass grew.
MR JOHN DEFILLIPI set my sprinkler system and I watered and watered and i would get bills for all these tonics and elixirs supposedly applied to my yard. I paid them for eight months — almost $ 1000 for my very tiny Boulder lawn. And I would see no seed. And Marc, the office manager told me, «The equipment despences the seed into the ground and then tills the seed beneath the soil so that was why I was not seeing seed. So I believed them and I paid them.
AFTER TWO MONTHS WITH ECOLOGICAL I HAD BALD SPOTS IN MY YARD WHICH EXIST THIS DAY AS NO ONE HAS TOUCHED MY YARD SINCE ECOLOGICAL.
I gave John DeFillipi two months carte blanche with my yard. I had bald spots which I never had before and they remain bald to this day. To demonstrate the level of incompetence of ECOLOGICAL and how deceptive they are in their business practices, They seeded my yard at the very end of Sept. and then aerated it. I mean the seed guy was being followed — literally followed by the aeration guy. And I told them «no», «that’s not right“and the ECOLOGICAL employee insisted that it was the correct thing to do and thats what they did. MR JOHN DEFILLIPI i even told me I could wait until well into November to turn off my sprinkler system.
MR JOHN DEFILLIPI SERVICED ANOTHER YARD IN BOULDER JUST LIKE MINE. SMALL AND LOTS OF SHADE. HER YARD IS BEAUTIFUL. BUT, they are friends. SO it is evident how that goes.

We used Ecological Lawn & Tree during 2013. Services we received were: aerating, seeding, mowing, tea & compost applications, and fall yard clean up. The guys who came and worked at our house were friendly, efficient, and did quality work. Whenever I had any questions, Marc B. or John got back to me in a timely manner. I appreciate that all my bills can be paid online. I’m glad to have found an eco-​friendly company to service our yard!

False advertising.
On their cars, trucks and vans, and in the pamphlet they leave on my doorstep or in my mailbox when they are soliciting new business in my neighborhood every spring, it plainly says «No Gas», along with other things. However, it isn’t true!
I just saw them working on a lawn near my house. It was obvious that «No Gas» claim is false. Their aerator was so LOUD I had to go inside my house, instead of enjoying my coffee on my front porch. Also, it appeared to be gas powered. So, I called the company to inquire about their claim, which was plainly visible on the van too. I was told, by the owner!, that it was too expensive to convert that machine (and some others) to alternative fuel because they only use it twice a year.
Really?
So, exactly how many lawns and how many days during the spring and fall season are they really using it? Certainly more than 2 days. So, truly, their claim of «No Gas» is misleading.
The owner did say that all the lawnmowers, edger/​timmers and leaf blowers are electric, thus very quiet (which is debatable), and they’re recharged using solar and wind generated power. Also their trucks, cars and vans are alternative fuel powered. Ok, all that sounds good, or at least better, but really, they are still falsely advertising if they’re using other equipment that is gas powered.
I was thinking I’d switch to this company when I became unhappy with the service I’ve been using, but after doing some research, I decided against it.
Really, I’m fed up using lawn care companies who’s employees I cannot communicate with. I have no problem if some of them I can’t talk to, but they should have at least one person on their crews who speak American well enough to talk with the clients.
