The Dry Creek Trail offers a great 1 mile walk! And it’s SUPER dog friendly. The trail is mostly flat and runs through grassland. It offers incredible views of the foothills and Flatirons. There is also plenty of parking located at the trail head off of Baseline.

I absolutely loved this trail head. And might I say, so did my dog Leia. It is a mile long trail that takes you through grasslands. It is located just east of Boulder and attracts many dog owners. It takes you right by a creek that is beautiful. Just a bit of a warning though, it takes you right by a prairie dog habitat and my dog went crazy. You must also have your dog leashed on this trail, which is fine with me because Leia always has to be leashed. This trail offered everything I was looking for. A nice walk with beautiful scenery and also fun your Leia.

While there are numerous free dog parks all over Denver, Boulder and pretty much anywhere else in Colorado, the not-free Open Space program in Boulder is worth the bucks. You don’t need to pay if you’re keeping your dog on a leash, but you’ll pay if you prefer to take your dog off the leash, provided you can keep them under voice and sight control. The pros of this space: easy parking, grassy so less mud for your pups to get into trouble in, not as crowded with people or dogs, a nice 1-mile walking loop and a small creek to run in and drink from. Not to mention an amazing, up-close view of the Flatirons! The only con is the prairie dog habitat near the entrance. It’s fenced, however they come outside the fence when they want to. And inside or out, most dogs go crazy when they walk by. So a leash is a good idea on your way in and out of the open space. You can register with Open Space and Mountain Parks and purchase tags: $ 15 City of Boulder resident — includes one tag — and $ 18.75 non-resident. Additional tags are $ 5 each.
