Straight crap. Feel ripped off. Will never go back. Been there several times and the quality continues to get worse and for the price this should be good food. Other than the garlic fries could have spent a third of the money and went to burger King. Never order the chicken strips cheap, frozen ones from Costco.

We stopped in this afternoon after a hike in Big Basin. I ordered the Big Basin Burger(¾ lb bacon cheese burger) and my wife ordered the Ben Loman(teriyaki burger) mine came out great, there were little dried puddles of crispy melted cheese around the burger which were pretty tasty. My wife wasn’t totally satisfied with hers, they forgot the teriyaki sauce. the burgers were seasoned nicely and cooked to a perfect medium well. I thought the fries were good, crispy golden shoestrings, my personal fave. The also serve Mairannes fo Santa Cruz ice cream which is really freakin good We came in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and I’m guessing it had been dead all day because we came in right in the middle of a rush and there was one lady behind the counter taking orders, delivering food, scooping ice cream and making milk shakes all by her self. She was basically getting her but handed to her but she kept her smiles goin and had a happy attitude through it all.

The food is good & they have a nice selection of beer on tap & in bottles. The employees are very nice but they do not focus on cleaning up after people. At this moment there are 16 open tables & only six of them do not have crumbs on them.

I have to say this place has come a long way from when they first opened. I have been here twice this month, and the burgers are huge, full of flavor and the staff is great. Cant wait to come back. Good Job guys…

What a shame that the owners do not listen to feedback from their customers. Have tried this restaurant multiple times. Easy to review this place. 1) Extremely Slow… no matter how many people are in the restaurant. 2) Food is just OK 3) Pricey for what you get

We came here for a very late lunch and were so pleased by the food and the atmosphere! We were the only customers(halfway between lunch and dinner) so the service was all about us — very friendly. Fries baskets were ample(2 half baskets are plenty for 4 people) — best garlic fries ever loaded with grated Parmesan, herb, and garlic. The 4 burgers were all delicious — healthy looking lettuce on the side, a hearty sesame bun(made of bread not air!) I had the Bonny Boon(?) and the cheddar was crisped around the edges from cooking(yum!) and dripping with flavorful bbq sauce. Whoever they have at the grill knows what he’s doing and has a gift for creatively delicious food. Their menu is chock full of interesting delicious options, and the prices are RIGHT. Wish this place was near home — I’d be a regular.

The service and food were fine, but it was very cold inside on a cold rainy Sunday. Staff said the owner wouldn’t let them turn on the heat. What is that about? Owner, keep your own home freezing cold but please be kind to your customers. Sat next to a child wearing a sweater and a coat with her hood up.

Only went here because of an unusual menu item… fried pickles… battered and deep fried. I’d have to say they were what the sound line and not impressive… but better than the burger. The burger was quite dry and not very flavorful.

Nice place to stop and have a burger and shake. Clean and friendly place. Mellow comes to mind when describing the ambience. Too far away for tourists so I think this place mostly serves locals.

This is from a visit in mid-February 2015, which I have entitled the FFS: fateful food shenanigans.(Prior to the most recent(and last) visit, I thought this place had great burgers, but it was always my roommate who went and picked them up after calling in an order or placing an order through their online app. I think it was under different management then, because the burgers were completely different – they looked like normal burgers instead of on hoagie-style rolls.) Onto the FFS experience.(tl;dr below, as well) The Bad Service(Oh, FFS!): This place is far too hit and miss with the service, hours, and quality of food going out of the kitchen. I stopped by a couple times when they should have been open prior to the FFS experience, only to find them closed. When I did finally manage to be there while they were actually open, I watched the cook yell at one of the wait staff(and fire her) in view of everyone because of the layout, and then heard him yelling at another person on the phone at one point. The waitstaff seemed very disinterested in, well, everything(maybe it’s a soul-sucking kind of place?), and I barely got any kind of greeting(this is after waiting at the register to order for several minutes). This should have clued me into… The Worse Food(Oh, FFS!): I ordered garlic fries(they were out of sweet potato) and a very plain burger with only bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Their default burger setting is medium rare, which I only found out because the person I live with told me), so I asked for my burger WELL done. Maybe the reason medium is the default is that’s all the cook can cook? Despite my explicit request for a well done burger, I received it medium rare. Because I’d ordered to go and didn’t notice this until I arrived home, I ate it anyway(I was hungry and they’d closed early, so I couldn’t return it if I’d wanted to), and it ended up making me sick. I should have known better and cancelled my order from the get go because I witnessed… The Worst Practices(say it with me, Oh, FFS!): While waiting, I could see the cook preparing food without any kind of gloves, and he never washed his hands(he’d go from touching raw hamburger meat to touching other ingredients – GROSS!), but I assumed I couldn’t see everything he was doing, so he had to be cleaning his hands off in between, right? Food was just sitting out from before I got there, and I heard the waitstaff talking about how the ice cream freezer broke, but that it was okay to use the ice cream for the milk shakes even though it had thawed. Um, NO! This brings me to the… (tl;dr) Bottom line of the FFS adventure, which is that I really want to like this place – it once had the most amazing burgers I’ve ever had. However, I’ll never go back. They have(had?) potential, but they really need to work on, well, everything. The service is lacking, they need to work on getting orders right, and also on keeping a clean«house» and keeping up with safe food handling. Because, FFS… it’s a restaurant. I wouldn’t even cook food for my friends like that and these people are asking you to pay. Just say no.

The food was good, but the service was meh. We got there just after a bunch of other people, so slow service wasn’t unexpected. But when we sent a burger back because it had come with green onions(and my friend is allergic and specifically requested it without onions), they sent the same burger back out again to our other friend who had the same order — and my first friend had poked her fingers around in it trying to take onions off before sending it back! That’s how we knew it was the same burger — it had a hole in the middle from her poking around. And one of the servers was friendly and helpful, but the other one wasn’t at all. Oh well. The sweet potato fries and fried pickles were both quite good. The black bean burger was also delicious.

This place is the only burger joint out here in the middle of the Santa Cruz mountains, but I’d avoid it if I were you. My husband and I have eaten here at least a dozen times over, the last 10 visits is what I’m writin about. They used to be pricey but worth every penny for the huge and delicious burgers they used to make, but that was about 2 years ago. If your burgers happens to be served to you warm, and it’s what you ordered, make sure it’s not RAW meat before you bite into it. The most helpful advice I can give on dinning here… DON’T!

Vegetarians & vegans: get the homemade spicy veggie burger. They prepare it with sliced serraño chili peppers. The burger is nigh gigantic and so you won’t go wrong there. There’s more: the whole lot is served with a salad giving the added illusion of being healthy.

WOW, tough crowd! I read all these recent reviews AFTER eating there. I can’t say that I agree, but perhaps I just got lucky with my first visit. Our group rode into this joynt for lunch recently. Although I found the prices to be a bit high, my burger was pretty delicious. In fact, everybody in our group enjoyed their burgers. I didn’t get sick and I don’t think anybody else did either. As far as the extensive beer selection was concerned, I just couldn’t figure it out since I didn’t really recognize any of the names, except for Budweiser which to me, is absolute liquid shit, but apparently lots of people drink it, so God blessemall y’all. My bottled beer drinking selections ended up being mediocre at best, but it wasn’t the end of the world for me, as I still had some suds to wash it all down. Now if they’d had Blue Moon on tap or Pilsner Urquell, well, then I would’ve added another star. The downside for us, was the cook having a smoke right at the back door, with all the smoke coming inside. Once informed of his faux pas, he immediately went outside to finish. Don’t know if he washed his hands once he returned. That said, I’d go back again. I’ll certainly keep my fingers crossed… just in case.

*I beg your indulgence as I will be embarking(no pun) on a new form of review… the ‘Virtual Pet Review’. I.e., I will be reviewing Burger Nine in the character of my dear friend Bodie the Dog. HELLO! My Name is Bodie and I am a 16 year old Brown Lab! I like to swim… and fetch the stick… AND I LIKEITWHENMYMASTERBUYSFOODATBURGERNINE! My Master is named Dan and he has gone to Burger Nine Two Times! I LOVEITWHENHEGOESTHERE!!! Each time he goes there he comes home with food and then looks at the food… and then he makes a FUNNYFACE and makes FUNNYSOUNDS!!! Hahahaha… I like the sounds he makes! And then he gives me all the food he brought home! I don’t know what a human means when he says«They Messed up the order again and gave me raw food… Even after I waited 30 minutes and told them specifically to make it well done and not raw!!!». All I know is that after my master says this he gives me ALLHISFOOD! I like Burger Nine food! It is just exactly how l like a burger… burnt up to ash on one side and then raw on the other! Yum! It’s like the neighbors garbage can… BUT I DON’T HAVETODIGAROUNDFORTHEGOODSTUFF! Yes. Burger Nine. Your food is like my neighbor’s garbage! Burnt, raw, stinky, but at Burger Nine you get to pay $ 9! WOW! I feel like a special dog! $ 9 Garbage! I think I will tell all my friends to tell their masters to go to Burger Nine! And Quick cuz my master says the health department is going to close the place soon. Apparently some people named ‘Sam’ and ‘Ella’ are going to visit Burger Nine soon and then it will close for good. I don’t know who ‘Sam’ and ‘Ella’ are… they sound nice! Maybe they will give me THEIR undercooked burger when they visit!

Fifth incarnation. New manager, cook, and some new staff. Place running like a top – finally. No long waits – cook knows what he’s doing. Menu expanding with specials: some pasta dinners, BBQ ribs or chicken… changed nightly. {Fourth incarnation(open, close, repeat). This time prices are back to normal but food not great. Just OK. Problem is with primary cook – thinks he’s a great chef; unfortunately, quality can vary greatly and waits can be long even without crowd. Check who is cooking before you decide to go here.}
