History

Established in 1980.

We realize people view their pets as full-​fledged family members, so it is an important part of their vacation plans to find their loved ones a proper environment to stay in while they are gone. Here at Tails-​A-​Waggin’ we strive at all times for excellence in care of your pets, whether they are with us for prolonged visits or just with us for the day at Doggie Daycare.

Tails-​a-​waggin’ was started 35 years ago by my father, I have taken over reins in 2006 and have made a commitment to improve the structure and safety of the facility. I’am constantly looking for ways to improve what we offer and want everyone’s visit to be safe, warm and full of play time. Our staff is a caring and loving group, dedicated to the care of our guest. We provide many areas of pet care for the local community from Doggie Day Care, at the best rate anywhere to Grooming and overnight lodging. Our Kennels are indoor with covered outdoor runs that are air conditioned in summer and forced-​air heating in winter. We have indoor play areas for rainy day and several outdoor artificial turf play yards.

We were really scared to leave our dog here for a week because of all the negative reviews. After coming home from our week long trip we were at ease to see our dog in one piece & a happy camper! He did look a little thinner then when we left but we expected that since he was away from home and sad/​scared. Our family had dropped him off since we were out of town and left his harness on. I was very happy to hear that the workers there had taken it off to make him feel as comfortable as possible. $ 25 a night… I don’t think you can beat that!

My dog stayed for 10 days and loved it. The staff were very caring and was a pleasant to talk to over the phone. They gave me detailed information about my dog while I was gone on vacation. I highly recommend this place.

My cat had to stay here during the time I was moving into a new home. So we said why not place her in a cat inn where she can socialize and still be looked after. Though the prices are pretty reasonable, you get what you pay for. They ask you for a meal schedule yet don’t follow it. My cat usually eats 2 big meals and has snack time somewhere in between there but she’s never scarfed food down. until she came back home. As soon as she arrived she was dehydrated, starving and had to use the bathroom. I don’t know if it was because she was nervous in this place the whole time (which can’t be the case since the employees here had nothing but great things to say about her behavior). Then when I went to pick her they forgot everything that she came with. including her carrier.
I don’t know, it just seems like something fishy is going on.

My wife and I took our two small dogs here this past weekend because we were traveling out of town. I saw the reviews and believed the place would be great. We picked our dogs up and on the way home we noticed a large clump under one of the dogs eye. So, when we got home we gave both dogs a bath. The clump under her eye was dry blood and there is a deep cut. When we picked up the dogs there was no notification that she was cut or that they were even aware of the cut. I do not believe that they watched the dogs or took enough time to examine them at all. It was our first and last time we will take our dogs here.

We used TAW for the first time and have no major concerns. The prices and location are both reasonable. Perhaps they are reading the Unilocal posts, as I found the place to be clean. No complaints with the customer service either, the staff person who greeted us for an early morning drop off was professional and courteous. My only mentionables are that I wish their fax machine worked, and they responded to messages. We almost went with a more responsive boarder, but TAW was a better fit.

We used to board our large dog here, but no more. The customer service is terrible — you can never actually get a live person when you call; it’s endless voice mail and phone tag. The staff was always unprofessional and uninterested, and appeared to be extremely inexperienced.
We now go to a different boarding facility that is a bit more of a drive, but the same price and much, much better facility and service.

Absolutely love these guys. My dog loves them and he’s not normally great with people. He comes back happy and in good health every time I pick him up. They are my go-​to for daycare and boarding. I’ve tried other places that were closer to me (I live in Shoreline) and none compare. I’ll make the drive for these guys!

Do not take your dog here for self wash! Yes it’s cheap but you won’t have your dog completely clean! I have a 98 lbs Black lab. The place is small and Filthy, like what you would see in the back of a fast food joint! I slipped in the lobby since they have no mats in the entrance and it’s raining, I said something about it and they shrugged it off. There are no ramps for the very high tubs! Some guy from the back had to come help me lift him into it. The shampoo is so watered down you could drink it, it took me 3 times of shampooing and rinsing before I gave up. The groomers were right next to me and we’re bitching about the poodle they were trimming! So unprofessional! You would be better off taking them to petco! I would never ever leave my dog in the care of these people!

Our usual kennel was booked for Christmas so we decided to give this place a try, sad day. Their customer service is lacking with no formal intake process or paperwork, just a stack of note cards.
When we picked up our dog, I was informed that he chewed through a reusable bag (why this was left within reach, I’m not sure) and when I arrived home I noticed that his slip lead had also been chewed and was hanging on by a thread that had blatantly been tied together to somehow preserve it – no one pointed this out to me so I could make sure the leash didn’t fully break when we went to our car (this place is located next to a busy street). He has never shown destructive behavior at home or at his usual kennel so the environment must have been extremely stressful, no thanks.
Also, their Christmas/​July 4th «deposit» is actually a fee, so don’t expect this payment to be deducted from the total price. This should be changed on the site from a deposit to a fee.
If you are searching for a boarding kennel for your dog, skip this place.

I used Tail’s-a-waggin for their pricing, which is relatively decent. My dog went and came back happy. They were also helpful when I forgot my Vet records and called the vet and had them fax over the records instead of me driving all the way home.
Why I didn’t give them 5 stars is because my dog initially came with a cone due to a skin injury. He had completely chewed through it by the time I picked him up, which he wouldn’t have done unless nobody was paying any sort of attention.
He also had some antibiotics, which they charge crazy to administer with his meals.
So because of that, if you have a sick dog or a dog taking medication, this might not be the place for you.
Otherwise, great experience!

I was worried about this place the moment I pulled in. It looks ghetto and run down. The ladies running the place look unkept themselves. I am very disappointed. They didn’t do a sanitary trim like they said they would, I honestly dont think they actually bathed my dog. She just ended up smelling like baby powder x 10. I told them not to do the anal glands but they did anyway. I will not take my dog there again. It’s sad and horrible and I should have gone with my gut. They charged me $ 40 dollars to bath her and she is 6lbs.

This place is a joke! We picked up our dog after staying at Tails a Waggin for a week and he looked like he had lost weight and developed a slight cough. Our 2 cats were given to us in their kennel which reeked of Urine. The owner did not seem to care when I called her and made me feel as though I had done something wrong. We decided to try them one more time and it was a bigger mistake! Our dog was a bag of bones and very frail after just 1 week. We were never called and told he was obviously not eating and or was sick. He drank so much water when we got home I had to keep filling his water bowl. Our dog slowly has recovered. This was obviously a gross case of negligence! At the very least I should have been called and told he was not eating! Never ever again! Stay away!

After a few years of taking my Golden’s here for grooming, I finally got fed up with 1) calling and them NOT answering the phone. 2) A new groomer almost every time. 3) Them not recognizing me and calling me by my name and acting like they’d never met me before. 4) The young girl with her hair in her eyes who won’t look you in the eye. The reason I went there for so long was it was very close to my home and didn’t have another place to take my girls till now. I’m so much happier to be somewhere that wants my business, is happy to see me and does a great job. This is not that place. And don’t even get me started on their «boarding services». It looks like a terrible place to board your loved ones.

We take our dawgly here and she is a nipper and unhappy bather. These folks to a fine job trimming her hair and nails and cleaning her up. Their prices are reasonable and the staff attentive and polite.

I’ve tried Tails A Waggin about three times for boarding my dog due to the convenience of the location. However, I’m going to look for a new place because the customer service is poor, and my dog smelled of urine (and all the toys I brought for him were saturated with urine). I realize animals get stressed out when they are boarded, but my dog appeared to be uncared for and super dirty. I don’t think he was taken out of the kennel for many potty breaks and I paid for daily exercise for him as well. The girl I’ve dealt with at the front desk is snotty and not at all friendly. There are a lot of passive-​aggressive notes posted around reminding patrons to clean up after their dogs and pick them up on time. It’s a bit weird. Anyway, as I said, I don’t feel comfortable leaving my dog here, so will be moving on.

We take our 7-​month-​old Lab here for day-​care 4 days a week and she absolutely loves it! I can’t say enough good things about the employees who recognize me and Lucy (my pup) every day. Se always gets plenty of exercise, every night she is worn out and that is saying a lot for a Lab puppy! The building and dog «habitats» are very clean and well-​kept. I look forward to taking my dog here for years to come.

I started taking my dog to this kennel 10 years ago when she was a baby. Everything seemed fine, the food she was fed was of a decent quality and she always came back home nothing more than tired. I got a second dog and stayed with the kennel since they could stay together and I got a discount for the two.
After some time, the food quality dropped and I felt like the place wasn’t kept up as well. Customer service was ridiculous, but I guess I could deal if I was just leaving them for a day or two here and there.
Then…
I picked my dogs up after a weekend and my eldest one was acting funny. Her belly was sore and she got snappy if you tried to touch her, but there were no marks. I figured she had accidentally hurt herself. She got better quickly.
The next time I took them back, same thing. She came back in even more pain, but this time there were very evident bruises all over her stomach. I called the kennel and, without being at all confrontational, reported the problem. I expected a little concern and a «we’ll look into it». Instead, I was bombarded with outrage that I could even assume someone who worked there would injure my dogs. I told them again I wasn’t making accusations and that I was just reporting the problem. More attitude…
Needless to say, we don’t go there anymore and I haven’t kenneled my dogs in over 2 years. It’s like choosing a babysitter for your kid: If you feel at all weird about anything, move on.

I have been bringing my elderly dog and elderly cat here for a few years. They’ve always been well taken care of. The facility is clean and does not stink like other kennels. The staff is very personable.
My dog has since passed away but I still bring my kitty in several times a year. The staff always remembers him and complements him.
I drive 26 miles one way out of my way to use this kennel and that’s saying a lot.

After about 15 years of using them, I have to revise my review down a bit, and I don’t think I’ll go back.
They are fine, safe care for dogs that don’t need special attention. However, when we picked our dogs up after Thanksgiving, I was afraid I’d have to put my 14 year old Dalmatian to sleep; she was in such poor condition. She couldn’t stand up (had to be supported) and had sores on all her knees — clearly she’d fallen and struggled, unable to get up. I don’t think anyone thought to keep water in her reach, as she drank half a jug of water when she got home. Took 4 days before she could walk again and was back to herself.
I just picked the dogs up from a week stay at a new kennel, and the Dalmatian is energetic and prancing around cheerfully.

It’s nice to find a place where you feel safe about leaving your luved ones. We’ve used them over the last 3 years at various times of the year to board our dogs. While our 15 year old boxer mix was nearing her end they treated her with style, kept her in an in-​door kennel and cleaned her up real well just before we got back. Of course that was an extra charge but well worth it. Our dogs are always happy to see the staff, dogs know good people.
Their groomer does a great job, with nails and a wash and trim. Never too much perfume and makes even the mutts look good!
Our small Lhasa mix gets worried while we are gone and sometimes will not eat very much. They actually called us on vacation to ask us questions about her behavior, to me this shows that they had a great concern for her welfare. They actually tried to hand feed her soft food to get her to eat.
The staff always knows you, if you are regulars, and greet the pups as if they were one in a million, well of course we think they are, and they do too!
They’ll tend to your pups needs, daily meds, daily exercise, and grooming.
