History

Established in 2012.

In 2011, Jenne expanded her parent support services to include birth and postpartum doula support. She trained in Kenmore with Penny Simkin and Terri Shilling at the Simkim Center housed at Bastyr University. She is a certified birth and postpartum doula through the premier doula certifying organization DONA International. In 2014, Jenne trained as a childbirth educator through Great Starts Seattle. Jenne has attended over 50 births, and expanded her skill set by learning Rebozo for pregnancy and birth and postpartum belly binding.

Seattle Holistic Doula is owned an operated by Jenne A, M. Ed, CD/​PCD (DONA). She grew up in Northern California, was educated in Utah and Hawaii and moved to the Seattle area in 2006. She is a mother of three children, all born without medical intervention and has served and supported over 50 new families through the birth of their babies.

We chose to hire Jenne because we felt very relaxed talking with her at our initial meeting. We liked that she had many births under your belt but also that she had three children of her own. When I asked myself, «Do I want this person in my delivery room?» the answer was a definite ‘yes.’ We felt having Jenne as our doula was very valuable because even though both my husband and I are confident that we know what is best in most situations, having someone who truly was a master of this particular subject area to help guide us really helped us put our focus on working as together as a team.
Our goal was to have a natural birth but given our particular situation that did not happen. Jenne helped us achieve confidence in each decision we made and acceptance of the birth that we did have. As I listen to friends who had birth plans go awry, I see that many of them are still very hung up on what went «wrong». I look back on my birth as the day we got to meet our daughter and with no negative thoughts. Having Jenne there each step of the way to help us understand what was going on is huge part of the fact that I have 100% accepted a birth that was 100% different from what I had wanted it to be. During birth, having someone there that wasn’t medical staff, especially for the long haul that it was, made a huge difference. Jenne’s postpartum support when we needed to ask questions, getting opinions, and referrals to other practitioners was huge for a first time mom. Also, my husband felt supported when he felt a little lost during labor and that was huge.
When things went off plan, I didn’t feel like I was disappointing anyone (myself or the doula) because she was able to roll with the punches with us and re-​evaluate the situation as needed. I never felt pressure to stick to my plan «just because». I felt Jenne kept it real, and was supportive, informative. The support Jenne offered was the best thing we could have asked for.
