I’m torn about this place because of the different teachers. Being able to successfully educate children is a gift. Most of the teachers here are good at what they do. However, the current sensei for the Monday/Wednesday Little Dragons class(ages 4 – 6) isn’t the most effective teacher for young and boisterous children. I’ve frequently observed he doesn’t watch the pupils closely(he’s focused inward during movements) so a child may be doing a move incorrectly for several lessons before he notices, at which point body memory has kicked in and it becomes difficult for the child to change. His attention is inconsistent. He’s also dismissive of questions or comments from the students(granted, they’re five and they have lots of questions, but they still deserve respect). He does his job, but not exceptionally. I’m guessing his preferred class would be comprised of older students. So, he’s my three-star review. However, sensei George and sensei Rachael for the youth(ages 7 – 12?) class are wonderful. They are receptive to the pupils, keeps them engaged, have effective classroom control, incorporate some personal defense/safety moves, and are very aware of each student and their progress. They’re fun to watch as a parent, too. They are both also very approachable and welcome questions from both parents and the students. They are certainly my five-star reviews. If you can get sensei George or Rachael, it will be well worth your child’s karate experience.
