*** Review for delivery The time is takes to deliver is astonishing. Expect nothing less than an hour. But the staff is very friendly and helpful. In terms of food, had the princess and volcano maki. The volcano was absolutely delicious! The princess I wouldn’t have died if I didn’t eat it. Also ordered the Karage Dongburi… stay away. It is straight up sesame chicken on white rice. And mounds of it. If you like authentic Japanese food, this is not the way to go. I’d liken it to the orange chicken you can get at Panda Express.

After a long day of parades and historic site seeing, we capped the affair at Zen’s. The music played softly in the background, new age eastern for hipsters. It was a nice ambiance for relaxation. Ordered sushi and was promptly rewarded with delicious artistry. I recommend trying multiple kinds. Take your time. The restaurant isn’t large, but it is homie and you can hear your dinner partners while conversing. Fresh. Nice to look at. Relaxing.

I love this place. I used to get the sushi. But now I get the ramen and the rice. They never have my ginger beer. But it’s worth making a trip.

Very fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi. Usually not a fan of sashimi but this place changed my mind. Relatively small dining room but you get to see the sushi chefs make everything right in front of you. Sushi for 2 is an awesome value

My favorite sushi restaurant in Boston. Great location and friendly staff. I always sit at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs are great to interact with. The sushi is always so fresh and I love their selection. They definitely don’t skimp on the portions and the pricing is really good for the location. I definitely recommend you try this hidden gem out. They have both the downstairs seating and a room upstairs as well. I love that it’s never crowded and you never have to wait for a table so I am hesitant to give a good review because I want to keep this place for myself it’s that good!

It’s very popular spot for lunch in Boston. Nothing changed in the décor at all. I ordered the Tekka Don and it was ok. Japanese food is about presentation and how the sushi is sliced. I think the chef needs to sharpen its knife because it looked like a 5 year old cut the sushi with a butter knife. I didn’t enjoy eating clumpy day old rice. I think next time if there is one, I will order something from the grill or the sushi bar.

I feel so awful writing this but I just don’t want anyone else to waste their money here and get sick :(the sushi is really really bad… the fish quality is awful. It’s warm and old and it smells like Moldy laundry. Even the wine is old and nasty ;( Our waitress was soft-spoken and well-mannered. However, my friend didn’t touch her wine or food and when the waitress asked why, my friend politely explained how bad it tasted. The waitress didn’t do anything to make it better. She didn’t offer to get something else or pour a new glass of wine. She also didn’t take the untouched wine off the bill. As a server, that seemed a little strange to me. In all fairness, there appeared to be a rather significant language barrier throughout the evening so we gave her the benefit of the doubt when tipping.

the reason I’m giving this restaurant a 2 is because we ordered twice through foodler and both times we got our receipt with some extra charges written by hand that said $ 1.00 per chopstick, but no chopsticks were included! That is very deceiving!

I would’ve given this place a 4 star if the staff was nicer. It was already awkward receiving an attitude and no greet from the start with but the fact she wasn’t trying to hide it made it extremely uncomfortable. She wouldn’t stop glaring at the table behind us and our table and wouldn’t stop trash talking to her coworkers. The food was great but overall, the experience could’ve been nicer.

My wife and I ate at Zen last Saturday prior to going to a concert. The sushi was super fresh and as good as any other sushi restaurant we have been to. The service was excellent, and the prices reasonable. This will become our go to sushi restaurant in Boston.

It was OK. Nothing really to write home about. The hamachi sashimi was cut weird. The scallop maki roll was delish. The waitress was quiet but attentive. I sat at the bar but never interacted with the chef. I am used to more animated sushi chefs KANPAI! Domo! being from southern California. Guess this is just Boston.

Meh. I got one of the lunch specials(miso soup, salad, spicy tuna role, 4 pieces of sushi), about $ 15 including tax and tip. The service is slightly rude(for one person, my experience is that they always just point you at the sushi bar, even if it’s empty). Free green tea is nice(which I didn’t expect). They rushed me to pay the bill instead of finishing my tea, though.(I sat there anyway…) Biggest disappointment: the sushi. The rice underneath the slices of fish would fall apart when barely touching soy sauce. Proof(to me, at least) that the sushi rice is dry. It’s also not slightly sweet, as it should be. The spicy tuna roll wasn’t spicy at all, and the rice also fell apart. Next time, I’ll go with the $ 15 chirashi(with spectacular sushi rice, fresh fish, and service) at Fin’s on Cambridge Street.

They staff is very nice! They read you your order to make sure everything is correct. The food is average. They price is good. It’s right across the street from the Boston commons. Clean inside and you get to watch the craziness outside in peace with no bums asking you for money :-)

We went to this place last night and had great food, great service and wonderful time. Their Miso Chilean Seabass dish was delicious, so buttery and flavorful, the portion is generous. My friend ordered 2 of the chef special rolls and he loved them all. I didn’t try their sushi last night; but I’ll definitely gonna try it in my next visit. They have good selections of cold sake. We’ll be back.

Knowing it’s not real japanese sushi already, but I was in a hurry and saw the pick up time is short. so decided to give it a try. Clearly i was wrong, they didn’t even notice my order until i showed up after an hour. instead of apologizing, they kept attributing all fault to me and eat24, wtf? i would cancel the order if i have time and Unilocal number handy, considering all the inconvenience, I chose waiting. As expected, the food tasted no better than sushi from grocery store, the uni tastedawful, like sitting there along time, had to throw away all of it, the other sushi didn’t taste fresh and some fish is hard to chew. well, i lost all my appetite… Clearly this is a restaurant with an ‘attitude’ but not quality, stay away!

2.5 — well-located, service was surly, it was pricy for the quality, the sushi was passable, but far from outstanding. Appreciate the free green tea.

This is the best sushi lunch spot in the area! Great sushi and generous portions at a very reasonable price! I frequent here often and enjoyed it everytime!

Stopped in really quick for carry-out sushi. I had a taste for it and happened upon Zen. There was a cute little patio and the inside is down a couple of steps and rather small & hot. I waited outside for my one roll and it was brought out to me in about 10 minutes. Good taste, big pieces.

Small, clean restaurant. Very good service. The fish was SO fresh & the prices are very reasonable. If I lived in Boston, I’d eat here at least once a week.

I went here on a date the other night and it was absolutely perfect. The downstairs section is a bit more casual and a little tight, but still very cool with nice ambient red lighting. We sat upstairs and it was more spacious and intimate. We ordered the unagi(eel) sashimi and it was amazing. The sauce was on point. I ordered the sashimi appetizer and it was pretty good, they give you a fair amount of fish and it was all very fresh and thick. We also ordered the New Wave roll which was awesome. Highly recommend this place; it’s great for a night out with friends or a date or even just a solo dinner. Great service, great food, great location.

My first night in my new place in Boston and I was feeling hot, tired and hungry. Sushi is one of my absolute favorite foods(and is great in hot weather), so I was really stoked to discover a nearby joint. When trying a new sushi place, I like to get the chirashi, as I think you can tell a lot by what selection of items you get and the quality of the sushi rice. This might have been the best I’ve ever had. This place has the potential to be so very dangerous to my food budget. Even if it wasn’t a hop, skip and a jump away, I would travel to eat here.
