Unleashed by Petco

I had a great experience here the other day. Two of the women at the register were so nice about helping me with the coupons that I had and getting a price check with another item. They had great customer service! one of their names were Sonya and I didn’t get the other woman’s name but she seemed to be a manager. They were both super nice and helpful! Thank you!

This review is specifically for Juan who manages the dog training department. I paid a lot of money to not only have my dog complete puppy training but also get STAR certified by the AKC. My wonderful dog trainer sent in the paperwork, but Juan the manager never bothered to let me know when my dog’s certification arrived. When I finally called to ask for the record, he told me he threw it out and he can’t help me at all. That’s how you treat your customers? No thanks.

I like this Petco because the store is clean and bright. The staff is quick to ask if they can help you when you walk in, and for some reason it makes me feel like they don’t want me there, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that they are just trying to be attentive– they are usually helpful and friendly. Hannah is a great dog trainer– she really understands dogs and does well even with my rowdy pup! My pup and I have both enjoyed the training classes he’s gotten from her.

This Petco as a store is fine and all, but don’t bother even trying to attend a puppy play group. Every. Single. Time (Three for me, consecutive) we took our puppy to a scheduled play group, it was cancelled, without warning. Every time. As far as I’m concerned, puppy kindergarten is a myth, and you should not fall for it.

Amazing! Hannah was so great to work with and really helped out my dog and I! I enjoyed being at the store where she could recommend good products!

This store feels like the neighborhood pet store in a small town. Every employee knows your name and your dog, and they remember you when you walk in the door, they ask how you and your dog are doing, they know what you need and what you are looking for and they always have a smile on their face!
The puppy classes are really great! We took our puppy immediately after getting him, and after finishing the first round of classes we signed up for the next round right after since he had made so much great progress, and has so much fun going. The trainer (Hannah) is really great. She is able to answer all sorts of questions about raising a young puppy, and is incredibly invested in the success of all the dogs she trains and it shows in how great all the dogs that go through her classes are! We are thrilled to have such a well behaved and happy little pup now! Thanks!

This is like a convenience store for pets with essentials such as most dog food brands. There’s also a ton of toys, leashes and other things here. It’s about ¹⁄₆ the size of a normal Petco store. The staff have never been knowledgable when I am looking for something specific or have questions, so you need to inform yourself.

I like this store. They have lots of the things I need for my baby kitty. The staff is friendly, and their Vetco program is pretty affordable and convenient, even though they’re generally only done on the weekends for a short period of time. They get the job done. I appreciate their rewards program, and they were very nice helping me to check out and to make sure I found everything that I need.
I just wish that upon entering the store, that we were greeted a little quicker, and since it was our first time there for the Vetco program that they’d offered to tell us how the process works instead of pointing us toward the general vicinity of the line. Otherwise, things went okay.

Sadly I must change my review, the really nice guy that use to be there and was always helpful is no longer here and this place has gone to crap. today 1−31−15 I went in there around 12:30ish to get some stuff for my cats for starters when I first went in a guy peeked his head out some door in back basically to let me know he’s there (as if I’m going in Petco to steal when I spend 150 a week there if not more on my spoiled cats) anyways I proceed to get what I’m getting bring it to the counter and nobody is there I’m saying hello hello over and over again and NOBODY comes out to check me out I ended up leaving the stuff and walking out !! The guy that poked is head out is useless he could have at least came out and said something but guess he was in back on camera playing security ! horrible horrible customer service and every time I go in there the grass that’s suppose to be green and fresh for the cats is always dead what’s so hard about watering them?!? Get the grass from whole foods its much better and always fresh my cats love. better yet just skip this petco all together !!!

I brought my beagle puppy, Daisy, to puppy classes with Hannah. Hannah did a great job teaching Daisy all the basics, and then teaching me how to give commands consistently so they always work. Hannah and the staff here go above and beyond, even hosting free indoor puppy play sessions to help socialize them. I’m very lucky a resource like this exists. It’s Daisy’s favorite place to visit. I only need to say the word, «PetCo,» and she will run us the whole way from the apartment to the front door of the store.

I brought my dog toto to puppy classes here. She was already well behaved but I wanted to teach her more tricks! She learned so much from her trainer (Hannah). I was really surprised how quickly toto learned everything because hannah knew what she was doing! (Thank you hannah!) Overall, I was extremely satisfied with how she taught toto. Everything was about positive learning, which I liked a lot. They also make sure all the dogs are immunized before they join any class/​play time so you wont worry about your dog getting sick. The store itself is very organized and the staff there are always welcoming! They spoil toto with free treats, a tummy/​head rub, and even care package (shes sick right now) when shes having a rough day. I will definitely sign up for the next class so she can continue learning and continue coming here for totos needs!

I’ve been in a few times because they sell only one item that I need. But the staff can be really unhelpful. Was in the other night and the only employee I could see was standing near the door talking to someone. It appeared to be a friend of hers, as the discussion was not related to animal services or products, but socializing. After I wandered looking for the food I always buy, and for another hard-​to-​find product (which they also don’t carry) the employee eventually glanced at me while she continued talking. I walked out without a word spoken. I give my «A-​OK» rating because the place is clean and air conditioned.

Big box store (well, smaller box version of a big box) run like a neighborhood shop!
I’m a loyal Pawsh shopper so I was skeptical/​defensive/​annoyed when I saw a Petco was coming into the area but after a few trips and interactions with the staff, now I’m just thrilled to have a place to pop into no matter what direction my pup and I meander in.

I like to walk my dog to this store on weekends when I have some free time. The first couple of times I had HORRIBLE experiences. It was so bad that I avoided this place at all costs and got a Zipcar just so I could go to another pet store for a while.
However, the past two times I’ve been in the store I’ve had pretty decent experiences so I guess that’s why they get 3 stars from me.
It’s a bit on the small side for a pet store and they only have certain selections of essentials, but I think it’s because of the location. It’s right next to a Whole Foods and the BSO so it’s a really convenient. There’s also a CVS right by there too.
The prices are a little more expensive than other pet stores I’ve been to, but the good thing about Unleashed is that they will take most returns with a receipt even if your pet has tried the product/​toy.
The people that work there obviously love animals and always wants to give my dog a treat when we go so that’s nice.
Come if you know what you want, but I wouldn’t bet on the employees having extensive knowledge of pet foods/​supplies/​etc.

I’m really surprised to see the poor reviews that people have written because I have never had anything less than great service at this Petco. I live very close by and when I adopted my dog I was very happy to know that this store was a five minute walk from me and open later than I had expected on Friday and Saturday nights (which is when we usually run out of dog food). The employees have always been super friendly and helpful; granted I’ve never really had to ask for assistance because I usually just go in for the same items each time, but I definitely don’t think they would ever be rude to me. I’ve met several different employees as well, and I don’t recognize the employees the previous reviews were referring to as rude or unhelpful, so it’s possible that I have just been lucky and haven’t run into them, or they no longer work there.
I also signed my dog up for obedience classes at this location and his trainer, Jody, was very sweet and knew what she was doing. In six weeks my dog went from being completely untrained (he didn’t even know how to sit, as he was a rescue dog who had never had a stable home) to knowing all of the basic commands and more, and on the last day we even began doing some agility training to try to utilize his boundless energy. Jody also recommended to me the Thunder Shirt, which I had never heard of before, because I was searching for something that could help my dog with his excited/​submissive peeing and anxiety issues. It was extremely helpful and if not for Jody I would probably never have found this product.
Overall I like this Petco a lot, and I will be going back every week for my pet’s needs.

Yikes, after reading all the reviews I guess I was lucky today! I needed help with flea prevention for my dog. I asked one of the salesman on the floor and he quickly brought me over to the aisle and explained my options. He seemed knowledgeable and very helpful.
I then got sidetracked by the clearance rack and loaded up on cute doggie clothes and bandannas. the items were about $ 1-​$ 2 each! Awesome deals. Even at other pet stores, the clearance rack is never that inexpensive.
I also had to replace my doggies name tag and they did it for me there in minutes.
I didn’t give this place a 5 star only because after looking at the regular prices, everything seems to be on the higher end. I wouldn’t buy her dog food here cause I’ve seen it cheaper other places. Other than that, Still a great experience here.

I have to update my review of this place since last visit. Just stopped there today for a bed for my dog. The salesperson was a different person and was super friendly and helpful. Will be back soon!

Let me preface this review by saying, if it weren’t for my experience today, Unleashed would be getting a 4 – 5 star rating from me.
However,
Today I went into the Unleashed location in Back Bay to restock on cat food and cat litter. I had been in a couple weeks prior because it was obvious my cat wasn’t happy with her food. The employee working was helpful, although not very knowledgable, and helped me look at dry food options for a 7+ year old indoor cat. I ended up choosing the Innova brand, and it seems my cat has been very happy with it. They informed me if for some reason my cat was not happy with the product, I could return it at anytime and gave me a handful of enticing coupons.
So, as stated, today I went back to restock on Innova cat food. I was informed that there was a recall on this product and it happened to be the second recall of the year. At first I wondered why one of their employees would recommend a previously recalled product, however decided not to say anything and let it slide. The employee helping me gave me two 50% off coupons to make up for the recalled item, and that was just fine for me. To further make up for their mistake, she gave me a free tub of Pet Co litter, which also pleased me. There was no room for me to complain, and once again, I felt entirely respected as a customer.
I went to check out and was extremely pleased to see I was getting my purchase for a very reasonable price.
Here’s the issue that lead me to write this review:
The employee at the register saw my other CVS bags full of other home cleaning supplies, paper towels and toilet paper. She saw my hands were full and that it may be difficult for me to carry a very heavy and large bag of cat food and cat litter. She asked if I wanted any assistance carrying my products home and asked how far I lived. I told her it was about an 8 minute walk. Not too far, but not extremely close. She said there was someone that could help me. I knew I could make it home if need be, however, would really appreciate the help if they were offering. I also couldn’t believe the hospitality and once again, Unleashed was winning me over.
The older man called on to help me came over to the register. He picked up my bag and began complaining about how heavy it was. He then asked where I lived and I said Charlesgate East. He then began complaining about how far that was and that my street was «AAAAALLL the way over there» and would have helped me if I lived on Westland. Side Note: That’s the street this pet store is on and quite frankly, if i lived on Westland, I wouldn’t be needing help!!! I told him it was only an 8 minute walk but he continued to complain and said he couldn’t help me.
HE THEN TOOK THE BAG OF CAT FOOD AND LITTER AND SET IT ON MY FOOT.
I said, ‘Owe! That was my toe.“
The girl at the register then said, «Did he just set that on your foot?!»
HE DID NOT APOLOGIZE AND WALKED AWAY.
The girl at the register looked at me in awe, completely embarrassed by his behavior and basically attempted to apologize for the situation by saying something along the lines of, «I’m so sorry he couldn’t help you.» I replied, «It’s fine, but I wish he hadn’t put the bag on my foot.» I gathered together all my belongings, and left with a knot in my throat, completely baffled by what had just happened.
I felt completely demeaned and disrespected as a customer and couldn’t believe the way he had just treated me. This man’s behavior is not the kind of service I’ve previously experienced at Unleashed, and so this review is no ones fault but his.
I want to state that I am not the kind of person that normally writes bad reviews, however I felt this man’s behavior, and his behavior solely, was COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE and potentially one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
Usually, I order my cat litter and any other heavy things on Amazon to avoid having to carry it home. However, I went out of my way to go to Unleashed and support a semi-​local business after the great experiences I had previously had with them.
I’m not so sure if I’ll be going out of my way again any time soon.
Unleashed, I highly suggest evaluating this employee, because he may have just lost you a customer.
