Trapeze School New York-Boston

That being said… about a year ago, I bought a Living Social voucher for a trapeze class. Despite the fact that I’m afraid of heights. I couldn’t find anyone else crazy enough to come to a class with me, so I went by myself. I was able to ignore my nerves through the introduction and tutorial by the staff (super nice people), and mostly through the belt of the harness being pulled tight around my stomach (you start to get scared about why it needs to be so tight)…until I had to start climbing up the ladder and stand on the platform I-don’t-know-how-many-feet off the ground. It was terrifying. And it was terrifying to stick all five toes over the edge and grab the bar with two hands, trusting that the staff member holding onto my belt wouldn’t let go. And then it was terrifying to bend my knees when they say «ready,» because you know what comes next…“hep!” The signal to jump. But as soon as I took that leap and started flying through the air…
Absolutely exhilarating and completely addicting.
You’re safe the entire time– harnessed to a rope controlled by a staff member from the ground, you could let go of the bar and be gently guided to the massive net below, if needed. Once you embrace that knowledge, it makes it easy to try the tricks they teach you — if you master everything they teach, by the end of the first class, you can fly across, hook your knees over the bar and let go with your hands, reattach your hands and unhook your knees, do a backflip to dismount, OR dismount by actually letting go of the bar completely and being caught by a staff member who’s swinging from another bar across from you (and NOT wearing a harness because they’ve been doing this a little longer than you have…)
I loved this class so much after my first one that I ended up buying two more, and rather than go to both myself, this most recent time I talked a friend into coming with me and using one of my classes. I hadn’t been in about 9 months so had planned on just sticking with the beginners and relearning the trick I’d learned last time, but the staff had me skip the tutorial and climb right up that ladder to get right into the swing of things (pun not initially intended, but left there once realized). And although that was terrifying at first, I’m so glad they encouraged me to get right up there — it was just like riding a bike and I was able to learn a new trick by the end of the class. It was also really rewarding to watch my friend master hooking her knees over the bar — I remember how scary it was to try that for the first time, and yet so rewarding to master something that scares you!
I still think the ladder and the platform are the scariest parts. But well worth it. Even though this location is closing 4/​30, there are other TSNY locations nationwide, and another trapeze school opening in Massachusetts on ⁵⁄₁ (outdoor, so you can fly under the sun!). If you’re looking to step out of your comfort zone and this is something you had never considered trying… well I highly recommend giving it a shot. Between conquering fears and mastering acrobatic tricks while flying through the air holding onto a bar, and the awe of realizing that although you’re harnessed in, you’re doing circus tricks just like a trapeze artist in Cirque? You, little old you? Well, there’s nothing quite like it.

TSNY Boston is a nice place for aerials, but more specifically for flying trapeze. I am only interested in silks and the offering here is a bit more limited for my interests, but still good. I hate giving this place 3 stars, but it isn’t quite up to 4 in my mind.
I’ve taken two lessons with Sam on Monday nights and she’s really great. She really pushes me to do more and I love that. For example, she taught me how to foot lock in the air on my very first session because she thought I was strong enough, and all the other instructors who I’ve trained with since then has been surprised by this.
There are only silks classes three days of the week – Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. There are also no open studio sessions to train or practice, which is a real bummer. The space is definitely more geared towards flying trapeze, but the silks /​static trapeze classes are intimate with only 2 people usually (max 4), so you get a lot of one on one time with the instructor for a low cost.
Classes at TSNY for silks is definitely much cheaper than Esh and Aircraft and they don’t follow a set curriculum so you move at your own pace. Sometimes this is nice, sometimes this isn’t. You basically just sign up for whatever class you can make and the instructor will work around your skill level. I feel like Esh is a definitely more professional, which makes sense as the instructors there are older and focus a lot more on making sure you have proper technique, which is a bit lacking at TSNY Boston
I bought a 20 class package with TSNY Boston for one off classes and so far have attended three sessions. I’ve enjoyed them so far, but I do think silks is much better handled at a place like Esh.
My other big issue with TSNY Boston is that they are extremely difficult to get a hold of. They never pick up the phone and email responses can take up to 24 hours.

A lot of fun even for adults! I am definitely not the athletic type and was very nervous before starting (what?! jump off the platform with the ground so far below?!), but the instructors were very patient and professional and walked me through every step. By the end of the session, I was able to do simple tricks and even a catch! There were several more advanced students in my class. The instructors tailored things to each individual’s skill level and prior experience, and it was kind of cool to see the tricks some of the other students were working on. We had such a great time!

We went here as part of my sister’s bachelorette party weekend (She is very athletic). It was the perfect activity. The staff was professional and helpful and made sure we all had many opportunities to try out the trapeze. We were also all able to use the living social deal. Thanks again!

Really awesome experience and tons of fun… You’ll definitely feel muscles you didn’t know you had the next day, but you don’t need to be an athlete to have a great time. Pricing is pretty good if you get a deal and/​or sign up for a package. Instructors are great– and at least one hottie! Highly recommend for friends — and great for team building, etc…

If you are willing to try something new and a bit daring, this is the place to do it. I found a living social deal for TSNY Boston so I figured I’d buy it as a birthday gift for a friend. The staff were very patient and friendly, which was nice considering I had zero experience.
This is definitely a bit physically demanding, but coming from someone who is about average in fitness level, I felt like I was capable of doing it.
I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to go back. This was an awesome experience with awesome people through TSNY making it even better.

Wow we had a blast! I took a class with 9 other adults, it was such a thrill. It was my first time along with two others, there was a group of people who had done it once before and a couple girls who had gone a lot. Each person got instructions based on their level. I am gushing with pride and accomplishment!!!
If you are thinking about taking a flying trapeze class stop thinking and just go for it. The first couple of tries was daunting and scary. The amount your supposed to think about is a little overwhelming but the instructors shout instructions at you while you are flying and they really are patient and understanding for first timers and if you mess up. They also record all the tries you get to do and will show you what you need to improve on which helped a lot.
The building was pretty cold so wear layers and I am also sore with some bruises and rug burn from the net. If wear thick socks and as thick of leggings as possible to help protect your knees from the net. Also bringing water, it was a lifesaver.
This would be a great event for a team building or as a confident booster! It’s scary at first but I can barely contain my excitement and how amazingly fun this was!!!

My kids have never had more fun!!! The staff were wonderful, warm and professional! My daughter learned seriously astonishing life lessons from her visit to Trapeze school!

I took the two hour trapeze class. The staff is amazing! Have to tell you I am petrified of heights but they made me feel safe and supported. This is a wonderful group of people ensuring an incredible experience regardless of skill level. I highly recommend this experience!!! For all! Great memories. As they say: «forget the fear, worry about the addiction».

If you are looking for a unique date night /​girls’s night out /​scare the sh*t out of Mom for Mom’s birthday etc event… come here!
They go over (very briefly) hooking yourself up to the safety cables, and the technique for your first jump, and you’re off! So I’m hooked up, I climb up the ladder, and meet someone up top who hooks me up to more safety cables. I’m held by my security belt from behind as I lean forward for the trapeze. Both hands on, I bend my knees slightly, and jump off! Scary at first, but not nearly as scary as I thought. I flew about 5 times. They teach you a little more each time. By the end I was hanging by my legs, and getting caught arm to arm by an instructor who was flying on another trapeze! Loved it!
Tips:
1. They have other classes there too… various ariel classes, trampoline classes.
2. There is a locker room with showers… bring your own lock though.
3. The instructors are super nice, and there are about 10 to a class.
4. Look on Groupon, as there are often discounts :)
5. It’s on the roof of the garage of the Lonfellow bridge, which can be confusing… I was afraid it was partially outside, but it is not… it’s completely inside, and they validate. I believe I paid $ 7.
6. Wear shorts or leggings, and a fitted tee or tank, and you’re good to go! It’s a 2 hour lesson.
