The Langham

I went to the Langham Hotel on a weekend to try their chocolate brunch buffet. Boy was it worth it. We made reservations, just in case of the wait time. The server was five star, on top it, with a smile and it was busy in the dining rooms. The buffet selection was unbelievable and the chocolate fountain was too die for. The idea of how not everything is over the top sweet is what surprises me. In addition, I am not a sweet tooth kind of person, but the buffet was really good. The crepes and the fountain was the highlight.

Looking forward to our stay at The Langham, Boston! That was at 11am We booked through a third party and decided we would drop off our luggage before noon; check in is 2 pm. Upon check in No reservation please wait: our reservation department will check. Alana was kind enough to come and share this information that they’re still checking and apologize for the inconvenience.
It is now 12:30 and we received a call fr the 3^rd party that there is s problem and there are no rooms available. That will be another case. Unfortunately the Langham staff has not come back to us to inform us of this development. I feel this is unacceptable. What a HORRIBLE experience, unexpected. The only saving grace was Alana and her smile.
Very disappointed

Stayed just this weekend and was impressed by the level of service. Front desk was efficient and gave me an up grade (yay!). I forgot a few toiletries and called house keeping and they brought me not only the hair gel I needed but toothpaste, toothbrush and mouth wash plus additional full size shampoo and body wash just in case I needed more. So thoughtful! The room itself is smallish which is not unexpected for Boston but is still rather comfortable with a decent city view and big king size bed with crisp linen that is obviously quality. Turn down service was also a nice touch with the obligatory chocolates on the pillow. Small touches like plush hotel slippers laid out for my convenience and a hand written note on tomorrow’s weather outlook are differentiating touches.

Such a pretty place, great afternoon tea venue. I would give the setup 5 stars, however for a $ 45 tea I feel that the food should impress, however I have had many $ 30 teas that the food was far more impressive with much better choices. The tea sandwiches were a salmon, cucumber, chicken and egg salad, nothing over the top. The scones were two plain scones which were nothing impressive I prefer to pick my flavor and have many choices. The desserts were cute but only the cake pop really stood out.

The chocolate bar is not worth the price whatsoever. The selection is poor, the chocolate quality is poor, the atmosphere is childlike and unsophisticated. I would never recommend this to anyone.

This was the worst afternoon tea I have ever had! I was there to celebrate a birthday and left feeling extremely disappointed. I have been to dozens of afternoon teas worldwide include a few others in Boston and can easily say this was the worst. Tea was lukewarm and had to return twice. Some of the sandwiches and pastries tasted a bit stale as if removed from fridge and thawed out. Scones were edible but were more like a biscuit than a scone. Clotted cream and lemon curd were served in chilled dishes and were not very good. Again as if just removed from fridge. The quantity of food was also extremely minimal for the cost. Also the menu was different to the one online.
For the price of the afternoon tea and considering the reputation of the langham hotels I feel as if this was theft. I will never return or recommend.
The service was good and staff were attentive. That is the only positive thing I can say. I spoke to a manager before I left and she apologized and all I got was thank you for the feedback we will let the chef know and an «invitation» back when they change the menu. Lame.

I can’t emphasize enough how NOT worth the price this hotel is. Amenities for a king size room are basic. For $ 350 I expected more — better service, better food and nicer staff. The hotel offers cribs with bumpers which are associated with risk of SIDS. And the coffee at the front costs $ 6.42. This place is a waste of money. End of story.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Langham Boston in March. The service at the hotel was top notch, especially Salim at the front desk. I enjoyed the historic European feel to the hotel. The room was clean and sophisticated. Turn down service was a welcome surprise… chocolates on the pillow, slippers by the bed, and they even filled our ice bucket. Everyone who worked there was an absolute pleasure and I will definitely be staying again.

We say the Langham’s sign for afternoon tea and knew I couldn’t pass it up. I love tea time! Tea time is held in the lobby area which I was a bit surprised by but it was ultimately fine. They had a nice selection of various teas. I had the Vanilla tea which was very aromatic and smooth. I really enjoyed it. The Langham has a couple prix fixe options for finger sandwiches and scones which range from $ 24 to $ 36. However, we opted for tea, scones and preserves. The scones were warm and crumby and the clotted cream was amazing. I will definitely go back.

Loved having high tea! I came with some friends to catch up and grab a bite. The décor is really nice and everything was amazing! They have such a unique assortment of flavors for food. I initially was starving and thought that doing high tea would not fill me up, but trust me! The different small courses add up and you will leave filled up! Service was attentive and not overbearing at all! Everyone was extremely friendly and let us have our time to talk. This is an amazing place to catch up with friends, I’ll definitely be back.

My husband and my annual Valentine’s Day tradition is to go to a fancy afternoon tea. We had been going to L’Espalier for the last 5 or so years but found the service lacking in recent visits. We decided to try something new this year so we had afternoon tea at Wedgwood at The Langham on Valentine’s Day this year. I really wanted to love it but ultimately, it was wholly disappointing.
First, the Wedgwood is basically just the hotel lobby. It’s open and noisy and not intimate at all. You can hear everyone coming and going (including screaming children) and the space was drafty and the noise carried loudly. Terrible ambiance even though the tables, furniture, and place settings are all lovely.
Second, the service was forgettable. Everyone was nice but nothing was exceptional. It was just… ok. We weren’t offered glasses of water, nothing from the bar, nothing but the tea menu. Really surprised by that. Major lack of attention to detail.
Third, the tea itself. The Wedgwood boasts a large collection of teas in fine wooden boxes but I found it to be all show. None of the teas were special and they all smelled the same. If you are a loose tea connoisseur, like myself, you will not be impressed, or even happy, with the tea selection here (you’d fine better tea at Tealuxe or even David’s Tea). There were no nuances, no finery, nothing that excited me at all. Also, and I think this was the offending blow, when I asked for more tea they just came around with hot water and poured over my spent tea. No! Just no. Unless it is a tea that can be steeped multiple times (like oolong, which my tea was not), you should not ever do that. And they did it three more times.
Fourth, the food. It was fine but, again, really generic and uninspired. The presentation was lacking: everything was put on one plate and plopped in front of us. At least give us individual plates or put it on a tower or something. Also, I have a HUGE sweet tooth but the sweets portion of the menu was so sweet and buttery and cloying that I felt sick after a few bites.
Finally, the menu/​price. The website shows two menus at two price points ($ 36 for the regular tea service or $ 48 with champagne/​rose). On Valentine’s Day there was only one menu, for $ 55, no alcohol included. I was very disappointed and felt super ripped off, after all of the above.
We left feeling fleeced and underwhelmed. The search continues for an upscale, elegant afternoon tea.

I stayed here on a Saturday and did a birthday brunch the next Sunday. Without writing a 9 paragraph review let me say everything was exceptional. Literally everything. staff, accommodations, value, food, amenities.

Afternoon tea review– Beautiful hotel and gorgeous dining room for tea. Service was not on par though, we waited at least 15 – 20 minutes before anyone came to our table. Surprising because we had reservations. The slow service continued even when the dining room became almost empty. We stood up and put on our coats after waiting a LONG time for the check. They eventually figured it out.
Food was also beautiful, but average at best. However, it was very filling and was more than I had expected. Did not care for the scones, lemon curd, or Devonshire cream. Tasted more like biscuits with butter and a lemony spread. I love afternoon Tea and am no stranger to it, so I feel like I know a good scone & accompaniments. Overall, disappointing and SLOW.

My review is for the high tea ONLY, I did not stay at this hotel (I mean, I live in Boston, so that’s not really something I ever need to do).
A few things that I think could be improved upon.
FOOD:
Finger sandwiches were all chilled, which means the bread tastes stale and is cold. It’s not overly appealing.
Scones were to die for. This is no exaggeration — and the homemade cream and lemon spread were also mouth-​watering.
Cakes — pretty great. No complaints on those
TEA:
The first pot of tea we each got did not steep properly, because the water was tepid. That was disappointing. We asked for a second pot after getting through our first, and the second pot was piping hot and perfect for tea, but since the tea had already been through once, not as flavorful.
AMBIANCE:
The location of the high tea is very odd, as it is directly to the left of the lobby as soon as you walk in, and there are no dividing walls. It can honestly be a bit distracting in that location. There was a pianist there for entertainment/​background music, and that was enjoyable.
I may try some high teas at other places in Boston to compare!

Good food, prompt service — well worth the visit. A little pricey but with the windchill outside at 18 °F — I’m not complaining…

I have updated this review to further take into account the simply amazing staff at this hotel. Each one went above and beyond to make my stay excellent, the room service folks even memorized my daily breakfast and would ask if I wanted my usual and it would come to the room exactly the way I like it. The hotel is in a historic building so some things are old and clunky so it’s no W but overall my stay was a good one.
So far on my stay (day 4 of a two week stay), my coffee maker didn’t work, the toilet handle broke, my shower pipe broke, a loud college kid was escorted out around midnight after it took security 20 minutes to get into his room and finally this morning I have been trying to reach room service for 10 minutes on my own and the Front Desk has been trying for another 5 (as of this writing I still have yet to be able to order breakfast).

This review is as a hotel guest; I did separate ones for the restaurants.
Kind of a mixed bag. Stayed here for a week; stay at the Langham’s properties regularly. The hotel’s public areas are lovely and the room was fine with a nice view of Post Office Square, but the service was very on-​and-​off. Several times called down and could not find the concierge; was transferred to front desk who’d say «you want the concierge» before letting me explain and then transferred me back to a never-​picked-​up phone. Quite the round robin until the operator took on the concierge’s duties for me (and she did a great job of it.) Similarly tried to get something to drink at the downstairs restaurant/​tea lounge/​whatever-​it-​is-​depending-​on-​the-​hour and was told «I don’t know what’s available come back when there’s a manager.» Kind of astonished that a server had no idea if there was space or when they were open– or when there’d be a manager, if I was inclined to twiddle my thumbs and wait. If you’re an 1865 member no one here knows what that is or what’s included but the billing department got it right in the end. The internet’s really annoying, you have to re-​do the login stuff every 24hrs. The bathrooms are small and a little shabby.
Café Fleuri was great and had great service; Bond looks great but isn’t. Didn’t have tea (because no one could tell me if there was or was not tea available anytime soon and I wasn’t hanging around until a manager or concierge could be located). Didn’t use the spa but from what I saw the pool looked pretty nice.
Overall the service level at Langham Boston is not up to the image they put forward or the quality found at other hotels in the same brand.

This review is for the afternoon tea. I can’t think of a better way to have spent my New Years Day than tea at the Langham. This is the first time I’ve gone to a formal afternoon tea, and I am already anticipating my next visit. The room itself isn’t stuffy at all, as I feared, but quite contemporary and full of light. We chose comfortable couches to sit on, and then were wowed by their impressive customer service.
The array of teas to choose from is quite impressive, and they allow you to smell them to determine which one you want. I went with a classic English Breakfast and was very happy. They constantly refill your hot water, too.
The Langham was still serving the holiday menu (I think they change it up by season), and I enjoyed all of the sandwiches and scones. I especially loved the lemon curd and clotted cream that was served with the scones. I was a little disappointed in the desserts, which I thought fell a bit flat. The peppermint chocolate cupcake was a bit dry, and I couldn’t taste the maple or pumpkin flavor in the macaron.
Overall, though, the food and tea were delightful and I definitely left full and satisfied. Thank you, Langham, for a wonderful New Years Day.

Worst customer service ever!!! They ruined Christmas. Scroogie works at the Langham!
I made reservations on
for afternoon tea at the Langham on Christmas Eve. We were treated rudely by staff when we were walking through the hotel looking for the restaurant. Once we got there, the lady working at the restaurant ignored us while she socialize with another staff member. When she finally acknowledged us, she told us there was no chef and the reservation was a mistake. She saw my reservation in her system but said «the chef doesn’t come in for 3hrs and that
should have been fixed weeks ago.» She was extremely rude and dismissive. There was no apology or attempt to fix it. She had hot tea and pastries in the case in front of her and could easily have improvised tea and dessert for us, but she made absolutely no attempt to do anything. She just wanted us to leave. I was shocked by the horrible treatment and couldn’t believe she was just telling us to go away. If she saw our reservation in the computer, why didn’t they call us and tell us not to come? Why didn’t they fix the problem with
Why didn’t she just brew a pot of tea for us so we didn’t drive all the way downtown for nothing? I brought my young daughter and out of town relatives in for fancy tea on Christmas Eve, and I would never have thought we would have been treated so terribly, and on Christmas!
I will never go to the Langham again. They have no concept of customer service, and they will never see another penny from me again.
Langham, you are the worst. I would give you zero stars if I could.

The most delightful afternoon tea. The ambiance is sophisticated and classy, the tea room is in the lobby but it’s separated and the lobby isn’t busy at all. The tea sets were adorable and the selection was impressive. There’s so many types of tea that you’re bound to find one you like. We went with the more expensive Reserve menu and it was well worth it. The menu changes with the seasons so you can go a few times and try different things. We were also asked multiple times if we needed more hot water which was nice.
The sandwiches are the best part — it was a lobster profiterole, turkey and apple butter, prosciutto and apricot mostarda and a goat cheese and date crostini. Then they gave us warm scones with lemon curd, strawberry jam, and clotted cream. I loved the lemon curd, it was tart and sweet and tasted like lemon merengue pie. Lastly we got a few pastries and desserts, my favorite was the maple bacon éclair and the espresso trifle. You also get a cocktail with this menu (or sparkling wine) and the Fall Sparkler was like a peach mimosa. So good! The food came out in courses and it was enough to fill us up, for sure. Overall everything was great and I’d love to go back.
Only warning is that it’s a LOT of sweet. Sweet scones, sweet desserts, with the apricot and apple butter, even the sandwiches have a hint of sweet. Pair that with a sweet tea and it was kind of a lot for me. But that’s just personal taste!

I just checked out from The Langham Boston. Originally, I was excited to stay at a beautiful, world class hotel. (Especially after enjoying the chic Chicago location.)
Sad to say I was utterly disappointed with the level of service from the front desk. For a room that starts at $ 500 a night, I was hoping for stellar customer service but the warmth and hospitality was as welcoming as a cold and soggy cracker.
The room itself had a lovely view of downtown, the bed was… fine, the bathroom ceiling was peeling.
The fitness center which boasts 2 levels of equipment was crammed with too many weights, mats, and bosu balls that there wasn’t any room to work up a sweat, let alone walk. There were only two of us in space and we kept running into each other. I was getting more of a workout from moving benches and weights out of the way.
The breakfast buffet offered a nice variety and creative selection.
All in all, not the ‘unforgettable experience’ I was hoping for in Boston. Save your money and stay … anywhere else.

I didn’t even stay here and I STILL received excellent service from a concierge named John. I was parked in the parking garage across the street and my car died. I need a jumpstart and my insurance was not able to come and service my car until 2 hours later. I walked into this hotel and John immediately tried to help my friend and me. He jumped through hoops to help us and he was incredibly nice. I just recently moved to the area and I definitely plan on staying at this hotel in the future for their customer service alone.

A pleasant stay was ruined by a poor service experience in their lobby. I’ve spoken to the manager, but I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth. The renovation looks nice, and prices are often lower than other comparable properties.
Please Langham, pay attention to the details and you’ll earn my business again.

My boyfriend and I found a last minute deal on Expedia and decided to stay for two nights. The hotel is beautiful and the room (standard) was large and incredibly clean. On small complaint was that our bed shared a wall with the shower in the room next to us. Room service was fast, but read before you order as delivery fee and gratuity are attached to the cost and can quickly raise the price of whatever you order. CVS/​Walgreens are both in close walking distance of the hotel.
The concerige was very polite, enthusiatic, and helpful. Highly recommend the Bond, attached to the Langham, for a late night drink. Our server was incredibly informed about the drink menu and let us try a couple of the port options before we ordered. The Bond also gives you bread/​nuts with your drinks. Know that those are not free, but cost $ 2 to $ 3 dollars.

Downtown in Financial District is an odd spot for high tea but elderflower Cosmo to start was a hit. Modern atmosphere and great customer service didn’t hurt either. It was the tea selection that disappointed and the customers mulling about without regard for formalities associated with tea that left me perplexed.
I’m guessing this is in top ten spots for tea in Boston but Taj likely hits way higher. Don’t get me wrong, it is lovely but the Mandarin Oriental for instance just puts all else to shame with food quality, service and views nearly everywhere I go for tea. Hard to compare against that!

We stayed here over the weekend for a family birthday celebration and it was a wonderful experience. The rooms were clean, large, and well appointed. The only issue was the walls were thin (our room had a connecting door) and we could hear everything being said in the room next to us. Fortunately, they quieted down (or checked out) and there were no problems at night.
The beds were comfortable and the amenities in the bathroom were high quality. Also, the chocolates on the pillow were delicious.
The staff went above and beyond duty helping us with our bags and welcoming us to the hotel. I thought the bell hops were exceedingly friendly and accommodating.
There is a saturday chocolate bar buffet brunch that looked outstanding, but it was $ 42/​person which was a rather steep price. There’s no way I could eat even close to that amount of food. The meals in general seemed to be pricier than necessary, but it’s an upscale hotel so that’s pretty much par for the course.
Overall, it was a lovely stay and if I could return (and have someone else pick up the bill for meals) I would definitely choose The Langham.

This is a 5 Star PLUS Hotel. Their customer service is second to none. They had backpacks for my 3 children and slippers all embroidered with their company bear logo ready for them when we checked in. There is a level of security and care and joy that each of the employees display towards their customers. My two youngest have gone through a great deal in their young lives before we adopted them and so the extra sensitivity to my children is noted and appreciated greatly. The Priceline deals are phenom and you can’t beat the location being only about a 6 minute walk to Faneuil Hall and about 15 minute walk to the North End (Mikes Pastries, Giacomos). Their indoor pool and workout facility is top notch. If you’re in Boston it’s worth staying there.

This was our first time staying at a Langham property.
This hotel is walking distance to the Aquarium, Faneuil Hall, Old North Church, Bunker Hill and much more.
The lobby is gorgeous and quite spacious for a downtown location.
We were warmly welcomed and checked in quickly, which is always appreciated after a long day of travel.
Two rooms were reserved, one for two nights for my sister who drove down for the week end, and our room for 5 nights. We were so pleased and grateful to learn that they had upgraded my sisters room (529) and placed her just a few doors down from ours (523) all on the 5^th floor.
We had reservations for the Chocolate Bar and may I suggest that you skip lunch before you attend? The portions are thankfully on the small side so you can try a few different confections. There was a wide variety of desserts and it was apparent the pastry chefs took pride in their craft. Looking around I saw not a single frown. Unless you count those who were shamelessly gorging themselves, but that’s another story.
It is evident The Langham invests in the training of its staff.
We had opportunities to interact with everyone from the obvious front desk through housekeeping, to the behind the scenes, two very kind men in Mechanical.
We were and are grateful to each of them for their graciousness and professionalism.
We can appreciate the unique historic value and with it the challenging aspect of maintaining such a property.
That being said I would like explain the loss of the star.
Our first room 523 was clean. And as a very nice touch there was a tray with 3 pieces of fruit and two small bottles of imported water as a welcome gift.
This (loss of a star) is no reflection of poor housekeeping. It was free from dust, carpets were a bit old and faint stains. All furnishings were clean just a bit worn out looking.
Step into the bathroom and look up at the ceiling. It’s peeling and badly, and it’s been painted over even older peeling paint.
A 7 minute shower and the tub was backed up over the top of my feet with grey water. That is just really awful to contemplate what’s in that backed up water.
The safe takes three or four tries to lock, yes it’s a stupid first world problem.
The a/​c was nonfunctional, room was stuffy. After two (very sweet) Mechanical guys visited our ceiling and confirmed a valve problem. They were able to temporarily fix it (twice) but it only lasted about 10 hours each time.
Sometimes you just want a sanctuary, not a room that feels like it’s on the bottom of a «to-​do list».
Saving grace…
Monday morning we received a message that the hotel had another room for us! We never asked or even hinted that we wanted to move. Did not even tell anyone about the backed up tub, peeling paint or safe. Quite impressed they were so proactive!
After a minor a/​c issue in the new room (725)we are settled in for our last night here.
We returned to our room after a quirky dinner at The Barking Crab and discovered a very thoughtful gift from the Front Office Manager, Christopher. An assortment of (in house) handmade chocolates and Lorina French soda for two accompanied by a sincere note of apology for the inconvenience and also thanks for our business.
We are impressed with The Langham.

No. Just, no.
Here’s the lowlights…
— We called our room the dungeon because it had one tiny window in the corner and no sunlight whatsoever
— Water pressure in the bathroom is slim to none at peak times
— Staff seems indifferent, aside from the housekeeping staff… those guys are awesome. Again, though, if the highlight of a 5 star hotel is the housekeeping and turn-​down service, that’s a problem
— Coffee in the café in the lobby will run you $ 5.50 a cup. For plain coffee. Not a single place is open in the neighborhood is open on the weekend so unless you plan to walk half a mile, it’s your only option.
— On our final night, the fire alarm went off at 1:30am. We were all forced to evacuate to the street. No announcements were made about why, when we could go back in… nothing. Once back inside and back asleep, it went off again. Not surprisingly, no one asked me how my stay was when I checked out a few hours later.
Boston has so many great luxury hotels. Though billed as one, the Langham certainly is not even close to impressive.

I stayed at this hotel on a recent business trip to Boston. The hotel is nice and updated and plays off its history. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately the neighborhood is dead at night and there is not much to do.

This is a review for afternoon tea. We had a lot to celebrate; mom’s 92^nd, my daughter’s 23^rd and her graduation from Northeastern with honors. I booked a table for 4 in advance. Riccardo took care of us from start to finish. He was the consummate professional. Tea was beyond expectations. Imagine tea service on custom Wedgewood, amazing pastries, lovely tea sandwiches in an elegant but modern setting. The price before tip for 4 tea services, 2 mimosas and a mixed drink was 188 and change. Well worth the celebration. This hotel is amazing!!!
