The Barracuda Tavern

Awful fish and chips, would not recommend.
I came to pick up dinner here a couple weeks back, and was pretty disappointed. Truly, the fish and chips were some of the worst I’ve ever had. The fish was overly breaded and dry, and the fries were hard and tasted like the oil used to make them was old. It was so bad, I actually threw most of the meal out. I love food, and hate waste, so this is saying a lot. The pulled pork quesadilla appetizer was yummy though, and I was glad I had something edible to fill me up after tossing most of my meal. The restaurant was fairly empty for a reason.
tl;dr — skip the fish and chips, and probably the establishment in general.

It is so, so, so small (I get that Boston real estate can be tough). If you are a group of more than 2 – 3 during a peak bar time it will be tough to find room. Small drink menu. I wasn’t a fan of the nachos (I’ve had better). Best bet it to go mid-​day on the weekend to get a table

This is a place off of the beaten path. We happened to find it when were looking for a place to eat on Christmas day. It is tucked in a quiet Bosworth street and we saw the blinking OPEN sign.
Nautical theme permeates the menu and USS Barracuda boat on the wall.
The bar lady is jovial, engaging in conversation, and has lovey laugh.
We asked for their tapas. Calamari we’re slightly over fried. Green and red hot peppers make lovely marriage though, can’t complain, sir. I ordered it again. ⁹⁄₁₀ in my book. I will never taste 10 on this Earth. Mushroom martini was good. New England clam chowder was a solid ⁸⁄₁₀.
Pineapple sider is lovely too.
I liked the clean individual men’s room with fan switch inside. I like to have a little control of those things, you know.
We haven’t tasted their entrées, try them and write a review.

For a lone Californian on business travel this place is about as good as it gets. The staff is friendly, the beer selection ample and the guests seem sort of like Boston hoods. Easy people to talk to. I had a pretty good Friday night here and would definitely do it again.
I didn’t get the chance to try their food unfortunately.

Review is about the $ 1 oysters during happy hour. The oysters had lots of pieces of shells in them, they weren’t cut from the bottom of the shell and they didn’t taste all that fresh. I believe it was mentioned the oysters were from DC/​Virginia. I have had $ 1 oysters from other places and they were very good.
The waitress was very friendly and very quick.
Establishment was very, taverny, located right near the financial district of Boston. Didn’t try the beer but they had a good selection.
I would try this place out again, just not the oysters.

The food and staff are both amazing! I’ve been there a lot and each time is great. There fish tacos and disco fries are my favorite. Go on Taco Tuesday for $ 2 tacos soooooooo gooood!

I’ve been here several times with friends. I come out to Boston for work every 6 weeks or so and therefore need to go to a place a few times to remember if I like it or not. This place stands out for being terrible every time.
The first time we were there, the waitress spilled beer all over my friend and didn’t apologize or bring a towel until we asked. What the hell?! The beer selection is also mediocre.
The second time, a friend ordered wings, one of which was completely raw in the middle. Like pink, cold, raw. When the waitress was informed of these, she sarcastically said «thanks.» To me that either means it happens all the time and should be expected, or they just don’t care about serving raw meat and that’s our problem. Either way, that’s some crappy service.
I never plan to come back to this place and can say that the same goes for a few of my friends as well.

I am now upgrading my rating to 4 stars for a couple of reasons.
The service here on a busy night was excellent. The waitstaff had no issues and were like a well oiled machine.
Also, probably the most important part, they carry Schlitz in a can. No one else does. And for those of you beer snobs that only drink IPAs and never drink swill, you don’t know what you are missing. They have a wide spectrum of beers here and all that I love to drink. But when I see Schlitz in a can I have to go for it!

Found this place on our first night in town and really enjoyed the busy atmosphere. We had a few pints and supper and watched a little baseball.
Went back for our last night in town a week later thinking it would be a fun way to end our trip to Boston. The young guy at the top of the stairs asked us for ID. Being at least twice his age and not having my ID with me, I took my hat off to reveal my bald head and he laughed and let me in. My wife who did have her ID showed it and he laughed saying what is this, I can’t accept this! It was a driver’s license from AB, Canada. He wouldn’t let her in so we left and spent our money elsewhere.

Came here one late night with high hopes but there was a screaming issue with the food, everything needed seasoning. Ordered a burger and fries. Even with everything on the burger, it tasted plain and was a bit too burnt on the outside, so I was getting a charcoal taste a little more than I would’ve liked. The fries weren’t any better, they needed a little bit of salt and that helped salvage it some.
Wouldn’t come back for food but the drink selection seemed promising.

I came here after work on a Tuesday over the summer with my friend. They have taco & oyster specials — on weekdays, oysters are $ 1 and Taco Tuesday deals are $ 2 each. We got there around 5:30, so it was still pretty empty when we got there, but the place was packed within an hour. We ordered a dozen oysters and two tacos each. The oysters were fresh. The tacos were only alright. They were pretty small and they weren’t packed with that much flavor. I opted for the fish and (I believe) steak tacos. I enjoyed the fish more than the steak, but next time I come here, I’ll probably just come for drinks and oysters. The tables here are a bit cramped and wobbly, and the floors are sticky. Service was also pretty slow when I came in, even though they weren’t busy at first.

Service was really slow here on Monday. We came for the 50 cent oysters and it took a long time to bring it out. The place wasn’t packed and there was only 1 waitress. we also ordered the $ 2 slider special, but it also took a while to come out… and wasn’t that good. Chill location with 3 flat screen tvs, but nothing special. We also tried to order shots and they didn’t have 2 different types of liquor we asked for, so we had to settle for some marginal cocktails.

Good beer selection. Prices aren’t too bad for craft beer.
I tried the Disco fries that everyone on Unilocal has been raving about. They are quite tasty. I would recommend them. I also recommend their chowder. It’s creamy and delicious and just right for a rainy/​snowy day.
To my pleasant surprise, I just learned that they have 25 cent buffalo wings on Wednesdays. I will definitely be here for that!
Interior has a lot of character. Decorations almost seem random but is inviting. It’s a bit compact inside though. Tables along the middle are so teeny. You’d be lucky if you could catch the one of the two booths they have.
Located in a sketchy block. It looks like an alley way. Be sure to look for the Barracuda Tavern sign on the door.
The worst thing about this place is that it takes FOREVER for your order to be ready. Staff is super friendly but they are slow!

I’ve lived in Boston for a long time and I never knew this place was here. I love this bar.
Went for the 50 cent oysters on a Sunday night. I was really pleased with the beer selection and even more so to see disco fries on the menu. We got a dozen oysters and disco fries. Both were totally delicious. Service was a little slow, but the super friendly staff made up for it. I will be back for sure.

I’ve been in Boston with my loud, slightly obnoxious hard partying family for the last few days and originally found the area lacking for a nice, cozy dive bar. Barracuda is not a dive but is homey and very friendly.
Pricing is nice, the food is surprisingly delicious, and the bartender has a heavy hand. Best, the service is outstanding. My group has members from 22 to 75 years of age and we’ve all commented on how warm and friendly the staff is. Special mention goes to Heather, Tara, and Mickey… plus the brunette manager lady with long bangs whose name escapes me.
This is our fourth evening in town and no matter how spread out our individual adventures have taken us, we always wind up at Barracuda. It’s even a running joke at this point that we should franchise one in south Texas.
There are a lot of juke joints in this burg competing for a dollar. I don’t mind paying above average pricing for a good experience, but my cheap ass is all about paying less and throwing extra cheddar to staff that welcomes me. I’m a raving fan of the Barracuda — and her staff — and if you’re in the area, check it out. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

The Cuda is an interesting little tavern, tucked away in an upstairs room, down a narrow street near Downtown Crossing. I lived in Boston for years, and never would have thought that it was there had I not found it on Unilocal,where the reviewers gave it 4 ½ stars. We were back in Boston for the week and had just unloaded our luggage at the Hyatt downtown. It was pouring raining out, but our mission was to find a taste of the local seafood that we had missed so much. The Unilocal pictures of the seafood rolls, fish and chips, and oysters made my mouth water, so we headed outside into the dampness of the cobblestone streets.
An umbrella was that last thing we thought to pack before we left the Mediterranean climate of San Diego, but here it was raining cats and dogs. We pulled our light coats up around our necks and hugged the edges of the buildings as we half jogged down the granite sidewalk of Tremont St, hooked a right at the Beantown Pub, and headed down Bosworth. The rain flowed into puddles that filled the winter’s potholes, afterthoughts on this dark, narrow side road. The only breakup of the straight vertical and horizontal lines of the buildings were the fire escapes and a few small dumpsters. Steam billowed out of building vents and manholes into the alleys and was dispersed by the rain as it rose up to the second and third story windows.
The Barracuda is an old two story building, and the only one of its kind on the street, wedged between the other 10 story brick tenements. We followed Google’s directions to the front door but then looked at each other a little confused, not sure that this was ‘it’. We stepped back into the street and looked up to make sure. A chalk sandwich board hung on the outside wall, smudged from the damp weather, and neon beer signs were lit unevenly in the dark upstairs windows. I opened the door and we huddled inside and up the stairs to the pub.
Several tall wooden stool tables lined the walls and filled the area around the top of the stairwell. A couple of flat screens were hung, surrounded by oars, buoy’s and other maritime decorations, banners of Boston sports teams, and a mix of other eye appealing clutter.
Our New England seafood fix included the Cuda Roll, clam chowder, and fish and chips. The Cuda Roll is a crunchy and soft grilled buttery roll, with a lightly mayo’d mix of crab, lobster and shrimp. It’s a great combo that I had never thought of and it was delicious. It hit the spot! The clam chowder was a warm welcome, and the fish and chips were crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, just like I imagined.
We had our fill and slowly warmed up, and then washed it down with a few draft beers, including Boston breweries Sam Adams and Harpoon, as well as Dogfish from Maine. A board on the wall offered several other craft breweries from around the country. We saw our frothy reflections in the glass bottoms, paid the tab, and then braced ourselves to head back out into the foggy Boston dusk.

I suppose for the prices, it matches what you get. Stopped by for a drink and ended up getting some appetizers, namely the calamari, dollar oysters, buffalo salmon and the perogies. Their wine selection was limited to lower end brands but if you like beer, this place seems to offer quite a few.
I have to be honest, the appetizers need a face lift. The calamari was very soggy and bogged down with oil while the buffalo salmon had the great familiar sauce but didn’t taste like fish? The perogies were interesting as it’s the first time I’ve seen it smothered with garlic oil and the oysters looked like they were tortured before they were shucked. It was still stuck on the shell but it was no longer a whole oyster but a long thread of something unrecognizable dangling from the shell.
Our server was nice and attentive though. Very loud place too so don’t plan on coming here if you want to talk: P

I am definitely a newly anointed fan of this place. They have .50 cent oysters, food specials each day and a great beer selection. I think this place would have to be classified as a dive bar, but it’s a good dive.
I went here for Monday night football. The TV’s are a little small but they have 5 TV’s with the game on and the sound system was fairly loud. I ordered a dozen $.50 oysters, and 4 $ 2 sliders… They had a pulled pork, chicken, hamburger and fried fish sliders. The buns they used we quality bakery buns and all tasted really good. I’d have to say it was a toss up between the fried fish and pulled pork slider. For a «dive bar» the Barracuda looks like it has some pretty solid food options.
The oysters were Blue Point (Long Island NY) which seem to be very popular at places that have $ 1 oyster specials. These oysters have a good amount of meat and are decent tasting. I’m not sure if these are «Legal Seafoods» quality, but for $.50 I’ll eat them all damn day.
I think they have a beer selection of between 60 – 70 beers, about 10 of which are on tap so you should be able to find a beverage to sip on. It’s a good place to come after work or with a group of friends.

My friend and I were craving our regular $ 1 oysters outings and decided to give this place a whirl — well, bad idea. It ended up being more like Fear Factor than a fancy seafood dining experience!
— Oysters — my friend and I ordered half a dozen each. The $ 1 oysters were not advertised anywhere in the restaurant, but there was information online that we decided to go with. While the deal seemed to still exist, there was a reason why it wasn’t advertised. This was the worst shucking job in the ~20 places I’ve been in Boston! On my first oyster, a ~1 inch shell shard slipped past my mouth and managed to scratch down my throat, getting stuck in the middle. I was swallowing down fries whole trying to knock it down, and eventually it went down, but I felt it each bit of the way. My friend and I chewed cautiously each oyster from then on, and fished out shards from every single one.
— Cuda roll — this was at least pretty good! Warm, buttery roll with a good mixture of lobster and shrimp filling it.
— Bacon-​wrapped scallops — my friend said it tasted okay, but it was extremely meager — only 4 small scallops and it looked a little burnt.
— Cajun fries — boring, not spicy, and slathered in sauce.
Overall, the seafood may be fresh here from what I can tell, but it’s the first time I felt my insides bleeding in a while. There is apparently also a $ 15 for a 1.25 lb lobster deal here too. Anyways, be careful if you come here!
