Sabon

Best products around. I never really used to put a lot of effort or thought into my skin care products, but after a year on the east coast I started to notice how much the cold/​winds effected my skin. After collecting tons of soap samples from this place (they hand them out on newbury st) I went in and have been addicted ever since.
The sales people are so nice, and not pushy at all. Everyone gets to try their body scrub at a beautiful sink and some lotion to match. The girls that work there really understand the product which is nice. If you’re looking at a product they will ask you what type of skin you have/​what your routine is and will then explain all the ingredients of that product and even make a suggestion that might be better suited for you.
The store itself is beautiful and they package everything you buy (even the smallest item) so nicely in tissue paper and ribbon. And if you’re not ready to commit to buying an item they will put some in a little sample jar for you to take home any try. So nice!
My favorite items are the mud soap, eye cream and carrot face moisturizer. Great products, hooked for life!

Seconds later my brother and I were scrubbing our own hands (which I liked) with Sabon’s go to scrub, rinsing in a beautiful basin sink with foot pedals, and then following up with lotion.
My hands felt like silk. I am a big reviewer, tester of beauty products and this stuff was great. I didn’t buy it because it was 30 $, but its something that I’ll ask for as a gift for sure.
The store is small but has a great variety of high quality, natural and organic, soaps, lotions, creams, perfumes, a small candle selection. They also have men’s shaving products.
The scents were great and products contained ingredients that offered various benefits from aromatherapy to skin soothers.
Staff was friendly and smart, but not over the top stalkers (a reason I don’t like going into L’Occitaine).
I purchased the Glycerin Grass soap which was hand cut and smells fabulous.

I was lured into this apothecary-​like store with a promise of a free hand scrub. All of the scrubs smelled wonderful but not overpowering. The sales person was very knowledgable and talked to me about all of the ingredients they use in their products. I bought the lemon-​mint scrub last summer and I still have about ¹⁄₃ of it left! For $ 30, that’s a pretty good deal.
This store is a welcome change from stores that have products that smelled like candy with ingredients you couldn’t even pronounce.

maybe you saw my review gushing over Lush, which is not far from Sabon. well, i had no idea this was here until one day they handed me a free sample and i had a chance to give them a try. nice handmade soaps, sorta like Lush — seems to be just as expensive and delicious.
It is Newbury street… but 2 soap stores?

If you’re anything like me, you’ll walk out of this store looking like a child molester… walking down Newbury Street clutching your hands, touching different parts of your body, and continuously sniffing the scent on your hands…
Sabon is a fantastic little shop where customers are invited to sample the hand products they sell. Although a bit expensive to buy, it is well worth it.
We were instantly greeted by a member of the staff who asked who among us was new and who was a return customer. She told us to hang our coats on the wall and get comfortable. She then picked up a variety of salt scrubs drenched in oil and held each jar under our noses for a sniff — mmmmmm!
Rolling up our sleeves, we stepped up to the large stone sink in the center of the room — a wooden scoop placed our selected salt scrub onto our palms and away we went reforming our hands.
In what felt like seconds my hands were as soft as a baby’s bottom and they smelled like heaven.
Walk walk. Touch touch. Sniff sniff.
I am a child predator.

I had to kill some time on Newbs while my gf got her hair cut, so I wandered in to Sabon after a girl gave me a bite sized soap and told me that I «omg, have to do the salt scrub!» She’s right, my hands are dry and old lady-​ish. The scrub was pretty excellent, it smelled nice but it was subtle. Combined with the lotion (she gave me a tiny dab and it was plenty), my hands came out as soft as someone from a higher caste. And I didn’t smell all girly or anything! Just pleasant, with silky smooth privileged hands. I’ll be back when my wallet catches up with my hands.

Hmm, it seems I was not the only one drawn to the Free Soap Lady.
Whatever, I’ll be honest. On my way back from L’aroma YEA I saw her handing out free soaps and YEA I’m a college student whose ears perk up at the word free. And complimentary. Which she also mentioned in regards to the hand exfoliation inside. I looked at my friend Robin, neither of us with much to do, we shrugged and went inside.
Beautiful. Not too cluttered with products, the smell wasn’t offensive, and oh my god is that a fountatin? A sink? A wishing well? In the middle of the store? And there are pedals? Let me at it!
A nice salesgirl immediately approached us and asked us if we were interested in the complimentary hand exfoliation and why yes we were. She told us to chill out and hang up any bags to get a better experience. Done and done, friend.
I think I chose one of the lavender scrubs, my friend the vanilla coconut, and a rinse off later and… oh my. Oh my my hands. They’re so soft. I need this, my hands aren’t as soft as they used to be after working at Francesca’s. I need. I want. OH ARE THOSE DIFFUSERS?!
Yes. They were diffusers.
The nice girl (we’re assholes and never got her name) took us through the entire store. First I was into soap on a rope (wet it and forget it!), then I was into the lotions, then I saw the diffusers and had to have those too.
Ten minutes later (they take a WHILE to wrap your stuff, very much appreciated, but not quite so if you’re in a rush), Robin and I walk out of there with some newfound products. $ 30 for the giant tub of scrub is a good deal, I thought $ 33 for a diffuser (though delicious smelling and is called Provence — how fancy) is a bit much given that I had a hard time paying $ 12 for one at Old Navy.
But I will be back here. Maybe for just another sample of soap. Or maybe for a real bar.

Thanks Unilocalers, for letting me know I am not NOT ALONE in having got sucked into this shop while innocently strolling down Newbury on a random spring day. I will share with you my story.
It’s one of those first real nice spring days — what better to do than go enjoy a walk downtown to get you in the spirit? As my group ambles down Newbury, there is a girl on the street in an apron, offering me a free soap sample with a little wrapper on it.
I put it to my nose — hrm! that smells like soap I’d actually use! What else do you have in there???
:Enter shop: Welcome to what I’d like to call The Basin. A pretty stone sink in the middle of the store floor where you can try some various soap and scrub samples. Oh wow… my hands feel smoother than a baby’s bottom… what miracle is this?
And I’m hooked. My big $ 30 tub of body scrub is still going strong after 9 months since I only use it on my hands occasionally. I also came back to purchase several holiday gifts — much better than a «standard» lotion gift you might give someone! They even wrap it up for you in a bag.
Not cheap, but hey, few addictions are…
Overall, one of my favorite places on Newbury St!

Visiting this delicious smelling mecca of lotions, scrubs and soaps from the Dead Sea is truly a treat!
Not only do you get a sample of their cute little soaps, but once you enter they offer you an extra special treat: a hand scrub at their lovely fountain! However, beware the hand scrub… I don’t care if you went in there knowing exactly what you want… you will feel like you HAVE to have the scrub!
It, used as a daily exfoliator, and followed by their lotion (try apple lavendar… amazing…) are the secret to the softest and best smelling skin in Boston!

Went here with the wife (pronounced wai-​fe, please!). Of course, I had to try the Dead Sea salt scrub — I’m not afraid of the spa treatment.
Long story short, I told my wife that not only were we buying the salt as gifts, but one for us, too. Nice product and excellent sales assistance. They wrapped and shipped the gifts from the store. We’ll be back.

«Free Soap — Yay!!»
I love that girl and her itty bitty soap samples. I think we need a feature about her in one of the Boston newspapers or magazines. Not about the soap or the store but about the pretty girl who never stops smiling and saying «Yay!» at people coming down Newbury. I cycled past and she still managed to flash a smile and a wave, I don’t even know her. Whatever drug she takes… more people need to take it. Possibly it’s the soap.

Looking at the other reviews, I can see I was not the only one suckered into this place.
It seems so innocent. A nice girl on the street offers you a soap sample. You say hey why not. Then she proceeds to tell you that you can go inside and get some kind of free hand treatment with absolutely NO obligation to buy anything. I smell the trap but she did say no one would push me… oh why the hell not… I don’t have anything better to do anyways.
You go downstairs into the store which is cute and fresh (well the door was open as it was a nice day) and head to the back to an enormous stone sink. A very pleasant sales lady then talks all about the scrubs and which smell you would like and how special they are because they are from the Dead Sea etc. etc. So you rub it on your hands thinking nothing of it. How special can this crap be over anything else? And then all their evil plans come to light when you rinse… this stuff is incredible. Suddenly your scaly paws are transformed into silken hands. It’s extraordinary. You can hardly believe you are touching your own flesh anymore.
After this revelation you start to get ideas… such as Wow if my hands feel like this imagine if I smear this stuff on my legs… and everywhere else… and be transformed from mere human skin to silky satin skin. You ask about prices and you end up buying a tub of this stuff… the larger tub because it was only $ 6 more then the smaller one and you get like double the amount. VERY SNEAKY!
I had absolutely no intention of buying anything in there but this stuff really does feel miraculous. I’ll say one thing about it though that makes it less then ideal: the effect does wear off and your skin doesn’t feel ridiculously silky after an hour or so… but hey I’m going to make that one magical hour after I use this stuff COUNT…

This store has some of the pushiest sales people on Newbury. They latch on to you and don’t let go. The whole operation of reminds me of some kind «making Israeli bath products out of my garage» gig; it’s underground, tiny, dimly lit, and most of the products look like glass jars with those little white office labels slapped on at random. I hate to be superficial, but if you’re going to charge $ 20-​$ 40 for bath products, I’m going to need a bit more ambiance and décor than just some marble sink from Israel. The stuff isn’t so great that it just sells itself.
Their mineral scrub does work well, but the jar is cumbersome, heavy, and not exactly tote-​able. The sugar crystals in it are also much larger than those in other scrubs, which can be kind of awkward if you have small hands, but at least provides some discernible difference between their $ 30 scrub and a $ 6 scrub elsewhere. I also bought one of their oil diffusers and used it for about five minutes. The scent was so strong and soapy that it was just too much and I had to stuff it back into the package right quick.

Go and do the mineral scrub! It made my hands feel awesome!
Their bath products do such wonderful things to water… I think I’ll die if I can’t figure out a way to get a bath in my apartment… I’m presently looking for a giant galvanized bucket…
The diffusers are all natural, which I like because I’m scared of those chemical airfresheners that don’t smell nice anyway.
The staff is great! Exactly what I’m looking for in sales persons. It’s like shopping with your friends. They are not pushy, but they make sure that you see their awesome products. They also remember you and chat in a friendly way while you’re waiting for them to wrap up your goods. Perfect, exactly what I’m looking for in the staff when I walk into a store.
Great product, friendly staff, good place to wash your hands while you’re out and about.

Take a close look at the body scrubs in this shop. The oil leaks out everywhere and I don’t think they’re sealed properly. This was a big turnoff for me. Who wants to buy a big tub of leaky scrub? I’m surprised that a chain with so many locations hasn’t mastered proper packaging yet (especially since they have to ship all their products from Israel).
The sales personnel also don’t seem to know much about where their other stores are located. My friend asked if they had a store in SoCal. The woman said no, but when we saw the shopping bag, it listed a SoCal store in Brentwood (West LA). We tried calling that location and apparently it closed (or hasn’t opened yet). Talking to their corporate headquarters wasn’t much help either. It seems like a shady, poorly run Israeli company with pushy sales tactics.
Go to their website and you’ll see that they are out of product catalogs. «Due to extremely high demand we are unable to mail out product catalogues at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience that may cause.» How hard is it to print out more copies and send them out? Strange that they couldn’t resolve this problem quickly.

I usually get my bath and body products from LUSH. I was walking through Newbury with a friend from out of town. I mentioned LUSH being closed, just as someone handed me what looked like a chocolate sample. I realized it was soap, and turned to look at the store.
I had actually been in a Sabon before in New York, and loved the products but rememberd them being so expensive. The friend I was with was also familar with Sabon, so we went in.
They do this incredible salt scrub demonstration followed with lotion. My friend did it and was hooked, she bought both products. I felt her skin and ran to grab the same.
I got the Vanilla Coconut scrub and body cream. After using these, you smell incredible and your skin is like buttah!
The staff were very freindly and helpful, making small talk with us as they careful wrapped our products.
They are expensive and its not a place that I would shop often. But when I want to indulge in a great scrub, Id stop in there. They also have shower gels, handmande soaps, lotions, room fragrances etc.

My friend introduced me to this store a few weeks ago in NYC. I was elated to find we also have a branch here on Newbury Street (although, my debit card and account were NOT so elated.) It is not a cheap store — but I have not ever used products this wonderful before. I am a bath addict — I absolutely live for my hot bath every night — and with this store, my addiction is more than safe. I concur that the bath balls are divine — complete with rose buds in the center after the fizz fades. Also, the exfoliating salt scrubs leave your skin like a baby’s — really! I am also completely addicted to exfoliation products and these are the BEST! The only drawback is what your bathtub looks like afterward — time to call Merry Maids…
The staff is super — and you can try our the scrubs and bubbles in the store. The bubble bath lasts forever too — and I am also enjoying some lotion I bough there — although I do confess that there is one lotion I love more that I bought at Bella Sante across the street.
I highly recommend this store — the staff — the products — but go on payday, because it will cost you a few pennies!

I just went into Sabon on Newbury Street earlier this afternoon. I know it’s been there a while, I’ve walked past it a bunch of times but never went in because I am forever faithful to Fresh.
However…
Sabon finally succeeded in luring me in with free soap and then insisted on washing my hands despite my hesitation.
I didn’t have time.
I’m picky about smelly soaps/​lotions/​etc.
I had a ton of bags/​shit in my hands and was running errands for work.
They relieved me of my burdensome bags and rolled up my sleeves and made me wash my hands with this delicious pachouli vanilla something scrub (they have all kinds of scents but I really love pachouli in small doses) and then slathered this carrot lotion on and ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I felt like I had been at a spa.
Then, as if I wasn’t already under her spell, the woman showed me the magic of «Cleopatra’s Bath», where they concoct a mixture of milky soap, mineral powder, and oil to make a foamy delicous bath foam. Holy crap. I need to get back there to get some of that stuff. My mother would kill for that! And it might actually force me to take a long luxurious bath once in a while.
Back at my office, I feel a little high from this tiny excursion. oh, happy day!

It isn’t hard to find a body/​soap store on Newbury street. Each has it’s own unique feel. Sabon is my favorite. I love the products. Even more, I love how eager the staff is to have you try out ALL of them. My boyfriend in one evening and came out with exfoliated arms, and really clean and fresh faces. We bought the salt body scrub in lemon-​mint, a wonderfully refreshing scent. We also bought the face polisher (2x a week face cleaner), also in a fresh citrus type scent, and a mud finisher. Pricey, but worth it.
As much as I love the products, I could never say enough about the staff. It was the best service I have had in Boston (i’m not sure how much that says). They were friendly, enthusiatic, knowledgable, and really friendly. It was fun to interact with them and shop in the store!

This is the best soap/​body store around. It’s expensive, but so cool. Just splurge — you won’t regret it. I got the Lavender/​Apple body scrub (
) and love it. They also have a great selection of fresh, homemade soaps. I think it took me 25 minutes to pick out one to buy. They’re great about helping you out and having you try stuff in the store.
My favorite thing there… the bath ball that dissolves in water and has rose petals inside. Attention guys…
