Red Sky

Came to this place for dinner. Thinking back I wish we didn’t. The atmosphere in the place was on par with a cave. It might be nice inside but you cant really see anything so i wouldn’t know. For reference you can check the pic I took while here. They gave us 3 candles probably so we could order since I forgot to take my cave diving flashlight out that night and couldn’t read the menu otherwise. We asked our waitress followed by the manager since the waitress said the manager wanted to the lights down to turn it up the lights a little so we could at least see what they were eating. They said it would ruin the atmosphere is they did but sent 3 more candles over to our table.
For dinner I order a chicken sandwich, which is pretty hard to screw up. But when you send out a plate with a bun face cut open and face down and a cutlet on the plate with the condiments such as tomato and leaf lettuce in the last section of the plate it looks pretty shotty like something I would get in a shanty town restaurant in the Midwest where they can get away with it since there isn’t another place to eat for 100 miles. To say the least I was far from impressed.
As for drinking we find out the special they have a 2 dollar beer special, order a round. Order a second beer and told there hooking up a new keg. Followed by their out of their beer special beer… First thought was they were just trying to get rid of the bottom of the barrel from the last keg but having a special for maybe 15 minutes, ok another joke.
All in all I doubt I would come back here. Considering everything above I could have been treated better and paid less at a lot of different places.

As usual the food was very good. I love the pasta primavera. They forgot to play 80’s music however so we had to remind them that it is supposed to be ladies 80’s night. They did change the music then. The staff is nice but our waitress was a bit slow, especially when it came time to get the check taken care of. After 15 min she still didn’t come back for it and the place was practically empty. One of us had to ask her to take the check after awhile. Not good. There was something I wanted to do before catching the train and I ended up not having time.

I love this bar. It is one of the first I went to in Boston and then went back to again. I’m leaving off one star, because the salads are the kind that are small and not filling, but you’re still going to pay the price of the «eat until your stuffed.»
The staff here has always been super friendly and I’ve made good friends with some of them strictly based on being a patron! It’s a classy spot, good for small get togethers, after-​work snacks and drinks, or late night Saturday for the party scene!

Loved it! Had really good service 2 times, and then meh service another time.

Atmosphere: dark, as in electric bill left unpaid dark. Music: crap. Food: my salad was good, wings were alright, my friend said steak was chewy and tuna salad was «too fishy for seared tuna.»
Give a try, but don’t set your expectations too high. Prices: reasonable.
Also, there was a drink special for $ 2 Rolling Rocks that four people at my table all had one. Then the fifth person got to our table and they asked for one as well, hers took longer to get since they were putting in a new keg. Then came time for the second round… they were «out» of Rolling Rock. BUT! They had just put in a new KEG! That’s over 100 beers served in a very short amount of time! Turns out that the beer my fifth friend received was actually a Michelob Ultra (for $ 2) which they pushed on me for full price. (I asked about the quick-​emptying keg and they claimed «line faults» and gave me my Michelob for $ 2.) Was it a bait and switch? I have no idea, that’s up to you to decide.

Imagine reading on a sign out front, «$ 2 beers», and sitting down at a table with your friends to eat dinner. When you order the $ 2 beer, the waitress goes and checks, and tells you that this beer is out, and that there would be no substitutions. This could make sense if this situation did not occur at 6:30 PM in an empty restaurant. I refused to buy a full priced beer there, as nothing they had sounded good, and I can spot these scams a mile away. Draw people in with the price, seat them, then tell them the beer is out. I thought this place was better than that. It is the duty of any business to operate with integrity.
From the moment I called the scam out, in the most polite way possible, the waitress became irritated and rude, giving me only one word answers and huffing around the restaurant. I also need to mention that we were carded twice, once at the door and again at the table, even though the waitress had seen our ID at the door. It really shows a disregard for the customer.
The atmosphere and location are convenient and chic, and the restaurant is filled with modern art. The seating is comfortable and there is plenty of space at the bar and the dining area.
The food was also passable, as I got the Ahi Tuna Salad both times I visited. Nothing on the menu is very inventive, nor will the food change your perspective, but it is prepared with fresh ingredients and comes in the right portion.
All in all, it is inexcusable to have an impolite staff and to pull the scam that they do, but their location will continue to support their business out of sheer convenience, for now. This place left a sour taste in my mouth, but not from the food.

I went here to enjoy a gorgeous afternoon. The service was prompt and the drinks were not watered down.
I’d go back when it’s busy just to see what it’s like.

I had never heard of this place before. Never. I agreed to go here the other night, in a bar-​hopping-​friday-​night-​out, after a short cab ride, we found ourselves standing in the epicenter of tourism and drunk kids on weekends.
Upon entering, I was not impressed with the décor or the atmosphere. The «feel» to me, was cramped, TOO dimly lit, and not at all interesting, or unique.
First thing I did upon entry, stand in line for while waiting to use the bathroom. There was a sign saying «additional bathrooms downstairs» and when we’d been there for a while, I suggested to the pregnant lady behind me that she find out what those were all about, cause we were getting NOWHERE.
I asked the bartender if they had cachaça, she plainly said «uh, what is that?!» I told her it’s the main ingredient in a caipirinha. She looked at me like I said something scary «what is THAT?!» She then turned around and walked away. Whaaa? She came back shortly, I settled for a rum and coke, which tasted like crap (which is why I don’t like to drink it), but one for my friend and I only came to about $ 13.00, not HORRIBLE.
We were meeting people there, so we stayed for about half an hour? Forty-​five minutes? I’m not sure. It wasn’t that long, some good songs came on, briefly, but other than a handful of songs I haven’t heard in several years? This place is better left to thirst tourists.
They have patio seating, but even once it’s closed up and chairs are stacked, you MAY NOT go in there to smoke. I’m not sure that their patio is all that nice to sit at, it’s RIGHT in the midst of a ton of nasty traffic, a LOT of the time.

mama and i stop by here for drink or 2 whenever we’re in town. it’s right underneath our hotel so it makes it easy.
the place is dark, but cozy. it has a slight velvet rope atmosphere upon entering, but, that diminishes once you settle in. comfortable chairs and they have that hollywoody see-​through restroom door thing going on. good space in here too.
surprisingly, there are good number of locals here, and i don’t mean the business people coming out of work in the Financial district. but, no east coast pretentiousness that we were expecting.
prices for drinks are decent. they serve food, but, i’ve never tried it. i like thir double doors. keeps that cold air from coming in every time someone walks in. Genius!

Let’s be clear — I have no idea what this place is like as a dance club. They could play great late night music; it could be full of hotties. Who knows.
What I do know is I certainly do not enjoy eating dinner here. Or even getting drinks here during a time I think I may get hungry. To me, the food is mediocre at best, despite having been, apparently, well reviewed by Rachel Ray. I thought it may have been a bad sign when you ask for recommendations and you are told, «well, people really only order appetizers.»
And it’s clear Red Sky not so much a restaurant, but a nightclub that tries to turn itself into a restaurant on its down time to for some extra cash. Although, sometimes you aren’t even sure when «restaurant time» should really be —
The first time I went to Red Sky, I was meeting a friend for dinner — yet, on a Wednesday night (at 6:30 or so), they had blocked off all the tables and we were instructed that we could really only eat at the bar as they were having a «private party.». We probably should have gone somewhere else, but since I believed this was a restaurant, I figured ordering food at the bar wouldn’t be too much of a problem. Wrong. Not only was there a private party in the back, but apparently time to set up industry night (?) in the front. We were the only ones that didn’t know each other (and the only ones eating) when a band began setting up in the front room. Then rolled a huge crowd of people from Who Knows Where, clearly ready to party up a storm. Really not fun.
The next time (and last) time I was there — a Thursday night (7:30)…dead. No one. Again, it seemed weird to order food when no one else was (save maybe one or two obvious regulars (or were they staff?)) but we were waiting on a friend and were hungry. So we did. Mistake. Not enjoyable food for me.

I went here last night for a friend’s bday and fundraiser for cancer research. It was really awesome of Red Sky to donate the cover charge of $ 10 and $ 3 out of $ 6 of every Mommy Martini (friend’s mom pasted away of cancer at the end of last year) to cancer research. This just shows that they are willing to help the community and aid when they can to much needed research.
The Mommy Martini was really tasty. It was probably a Strawberry Martini. The first bartender that made it made it taste like strawberry fruit punch. That was ok with me cuz I’m a light weight. The second bartender made it taste not as good, but that probably meant it had more alcohol in it. That was fine by me too cuz I was slightly buzzed by then.
The ambience was really nice. Their décor is chic, with stylish paintings on the walls, modern furniture and cool lighting. The location is great because it’s just across the street from Faneuil Hall. The lady DJ was pretty good, friendly and took requests. Also, nice of Red Sky to book a female DJ too, don’t see enough female DJs.
One weird thing: my friend got a bottle of Blue Moon and the label was all worn out and scratched off. He said it tasted fine, but it seems like maybe they’ve had it for a long time or it got knocked around in storage.
I was sad to have arrived after dinner time. I heard that every Tuesday night for dinner they offer ladies a 3 courses when $ 10 worth of drinks are purchased. Sweet deal!

I’m not sure who decorated this place but I suspect that it might have been Helen Keller. Immediately upon walking in, I found the décor to be a real eyesore. But having a Groupon in hand, I was armed with courage and despite my instinct to want to get the hell outta there, I decided to stick around and see what this spot was all about.
Located across the street from the very historic Faneuil Hall, Red Sky is a simple yet somewhat pretentious bar and restaurant that seems to cater to the tourists. Ever heard the expression «It’s a trap!»? Well just might have been created for this very spot.
We were greeted fairly promptly, but to a very confused hostess who thought that our party was double the size than it actually was due to some awkward timing — people walking in right behind us. I can’t blame her for that and after a prompt recovery, she escorted us to a table directly opposite their wide bar that featured three TV sets, two of which were playing a college football game, and the main, larger TV was playing the Celtics game. As I glanced at the menu, and noticing that no one seemed to be watching the televisions, I respectfully asked them if they could switch one of the sets to the Bruins game which was on the verge of starting — my request was refuted.
They handed me a menu and after a quick glance at their various offerings, I decided to skip the unappetizing appetizers and instead get a simple to execute steak frites, minus the fries. I asked if they could switch them for a much healthier option, a salad. They agreed and off she went with our ticket.
Fast-​forward not fifteen, not twenty, but a good thirty minutes and our entrees finally arrived. Mine wasn’t particularly hot, warm at best which leads me to suspect that it was sitting at the pass for a while before finally being picked up. The steak was decently seasoned and somewhat tender, although far from being all that great, especially for the $ 19 but then again, like I said, I didn’t have high hopes, which was a good thing. The broccoli that came on the side was actually pretty tasty and perfectly cooked, and the salad that came with it was actually pretty awesome, enabling Red Sky to redeem itself for a lower rating.
As our plates arrived, I again, asked and actually logically argued that they should put the Bruins game on and that no one was watching the Celtics. Turns out the bartender was in control and decided that he wanted to watch the game. He actually spent the duration of our meal there chit-​chatting around and not doing much else, let alone any work. Our waitress was decent, but not all that attentive and she refilled my drink without asking me if I wanted another, something that I absolutely hate as I wasted it since I was no longer thirsty.
While the prices aren’t too bad, the food is average at best and the décor mediocre. The background music is more random than a Pandora station and the atmosphere not all that great or welcoming. The staff working there could easily audition for Jersey Shore. I left very disappointed and doubt that I’ll ever set foot there again. Except maybe to eat that broccoli that came with the steak.

I want to like this place more, but I can’t. Our waitress was warm and fabulous, and there is art on the walls. The is better than it has any right to be, considering the overpriced syrup they call cocktails. Ordered a Stoli Raz lime rickey and my god, I like sweet drinks, but this was just half grenadine, friends. I was embarrassed to have to send it back, but when the drink returned, it was better. Presumably, the waitress or bartender dumped part of it out and poured in more seltzer. It was definitely better, but it didn’t make me want to order anything else on the bevvie menu.
The BF was sad that the bar only offered light beer, but the waitress was kind enough to get him a small sample of the darkest beer they had, and he did order it. Happily, the salmon was good, and I’ve never had better spinach. It came with half-​crispy, half-​sauteed tiny onion strings, and it was really good. The butternut squash tasted a bit strange. Sadly, the place was filled with über-​loud douchebags, and since it’s a small space, all the screaming ricocheted off the walls and into my brain. I couldn’t wait to get the hell outta there, and was plugging an ear at times. No more Friday nights for Red Sky for me.

Saturday night at approximately 7:27p. Red Sky is fairly quiet with many open tables and a couple of seats at the bar.
Friend: «Wow, I guess we didn’t need a reservation tonight!»
Hostess: «Did you want to have dinner?»
Me: «Yes, we made a reservation for two at 7:30p. I received a confirmation email.»
Hostess: :looking at list of reservations, not listening to me: «If you eat dinner here you have to be out by 8:30p. We have a party we need to set up for and all the tables have to be brought downstairs.»
Me: «Well, I made a reservation, so…»
Hostess: «Sorry, I don’t see it here. You just have to be out by 8:30p, or you can sit at the bar. It has a full menu.»
OK. Hold the phone. Seriously? I get no apology for my reservation that has gone missing. I get told that I NEED to be out by 8:30p. And who the f runs a business that wipes out the entire dining area of their restaurant for a party downstairs? It’s called rental furniture. It’s called running a business that can handle both the restaurant and the basement «party room».
My friend and I did sit at the bar and looked through the drink menu since we weren’t interested in eating a full meal at a bar with less than friendly bartenders. I’m sorry the question «Do you have Shipyard?» offended you so, but do not dare speak to your customers with a «No!» so blatantly rude. Buh f’in bye.
Lesson: I’ll gladly spare any and all exchanges with a bunch of trashy girls also known as Red Sky employees any day and head to a place where Shipyard isn’t considered to be a second class citizen next to Bud Light.

$ 25 off coupon, which I have learned to present at the END of the meal, not before as that can sometimes alter the level of service you may have otherwise received.
Ordered the mussel frites appetizer. Mussels served in a garlic, white wine broth and came with a side of fries. Very bland broth. I love to receive a good garlic type broth with mussels that I can continue to dip fires, bread, etc into once the mussels are long gone. However, this wasn’t that caliber of broth. Not enough garlic (if any?) and really no flavor at all. At $ 11.50 it was decently priced and the portion was large enough for the two of us, but I wouldn’t order again.
I ordered the ham and cheese panini and girly had the Philly. Both came with the choice of regular fries or curly fires (nice touch) The panini was excellent, good flavor, the Philly however was very disappointing. Not nearly enough cheese and something about the meat left a weird aftertaste. Not recommended.
Service was good. Check says her name was Chantel and she was there when we needed her. Friendly, not too chatty, but that’s ok. Took my coupon without a blink and knew exactly what to do with it. I’m obviously not the first person to use one here. :)
Drink prices were very expensive! Girly had some foo foo girly concoction which came at $ 12. Yikes!
As a side note, half of the bar was filled with a private (semi-​private I guess!) party and reading from the other reviews this seems the market they are actively pursuing. Not sure if they close the bar to the public ever, but probably worth checking out if you plan on going.

We went here last night as part of a group celebrating an engagement party. The place isn’t very big, but what else would you expect from a bar right in the middle of the Faneuil Hall excitement. The beer menu was a little disappointing with only 3 beers on draft, but the cocktail menu was rather extensive and my wife enjoyed all the different drinks she ordered.
The real surprise here was the quality of the food. We had several appetizers ordered for the group and the calamari was probably the star of the show. It was a little saltier than you’d want, but when you were washing it down with Bud Light the extra flavor from the salt was a nice surprise. The chicken tenders and sliders were ok, but I think they looked better than they tasted. The drinks are surprisingly affordable for the location of the bar so if you can in before paying a cover you won’t be hit too bad in your wallet.

This place is interesting — was here for an event last weekend and it was great for a large party where you take over the entire bar.
If i was looking to get a drink with a friend or have a fab meal, this wouldn’t be the place.
There wasn’t a ton of room to dance either — I wished they had opened up more of the back room area and created a dance floor.

Red Sky hasn’t disappointed yet. I’ve been several times over the years and each time the service, food and drinks are solid.
Last night I went to have dinner and drinks with several friends. Monday night is 80s Ladies Night. If you spend at least $ 10 on a cocktail or other food item, ladies can get a free 3 course meal. Great deal, huh?
I was an appetizer nut last night so I split the calamari and nachos. The calamari had a nice spicy sauce to accompany it and the fried pepper slices were a nice touch. The nachos were crispy, cheesy, and oh so good.
Weekends can get crowded but any weekday night makes for a great after work location.

Admittedly, I was a little nervous when I read Red Sky’s menu for the first time. Call me crazy, but seeing lots of weird spelling mistakes all over the menu made me think that perhaps it was indicative of the entire experience as a whole. If they couldn’t care to proofread, what else did they miss?
Then my eyes focused on the cocktail list, and I must say I was quite impressed. $ 10 gets you a lot — in choices and the amount in your glass — which is a welcoming respite from some of those other trendy places where at $ 10 a minimum you get more frou-​frou than fabu.
I snacked on some loaded nachos (and you can totally choose anything you want on ‘em) while perusing the rest of the menu — taking a brief respite from having a degree in literature and having too many grammar and proofreading classes under my belt — and I couldn’t help but crave about ¾ of the items on there, despite being full and satisfied from my chipaholic excursion. I then spotted what I have come to believe is the craziest special in town, at least for the ladies:
Ladies get a 3-​course meal (valued at $ 26, including salad or soup, a pasta or meat entrée, and a dessert) for free on Tuesday evenings. The catch? You gotta buy a $ 10 cocktail. Oh, twist my arm!
Red Sky is quite seriously a force to be reckoned with in the area. Good food, great cocktails, unbeatable specials, waitstaff that you can tell enjoy working there, and bonus — single-​stall bathrooms! Hey, I call ‘em as I see ‘em.
As for the menu spelling snafu? I have to let it slide. Greatness prevails.

I was so excited after hearing and reading about this place. I was hoping to spot a celebrity in a swanky booth. Dissapointing. It’s not at all like that. It’s not a hole in the wall. but it’s more of a college crowd with a mix of older people. Drinks are definitely cheap. $ 3. Music is not too bad either. but the place isn’t swanky.
